I performed this routine at the ISDTA State Color Guard Championships on November 3rd 2017. I was lucky enough to score a division one and win first overall. Thank you for watching!
I can truly say, as a color guard member myself, Color guard is one of the hardest sports to accomplish. It more than just twirling a flag, or tossing a gun or even doing an eight toss turn around a Saber. It’s also about counting, p precision and performance quality. Even when you drop it, how do you recover? Did you get back in or did you stand there and perform regardless of that fault. It’s so much more than a sport.
It’s easy, just hard to do it good. Anyone can spin the equipment with practice. But it takes commitment to make it look good -Some random freshman who specializes in tosses because flag, rifle, and saber go in the air and spin spin very high.
This is so beautiful and amazing, if you don’t mind would it be ok if I️ took a few moves from your solo for my quinceañera dance? I’m putting together a dance w a flag for it and want something just like this, so amazing x
i’ve watched millions of colorguard routines and they are all very, very beautiful, but this, this work of art is hands down my favorite. you show so much emotion and the choreography is stunning. your costume is beautiful just like you. you have such a raw, natural talent for guard, and i can tell a passion. you are insanely refreshing to watch. thank you for this beautiful performance.
I wanna recreate this so bad. You have inspired me to continue participating in color guard. This solo is beautiful, technical, and such an amazing performance. I wish I had the talent to perform this just as amazing as you did✨
This show is so beautiful! I love it and it just looks amazing! The amount of work you put into it looks great. I especially liked that one handed parallel into splits.
I've been doing guard for about a year now and whenever I get discouraged with my progress or anything like that there a few performances that I go back and watch to remind myself on what I'm striving for. this just became one of them. so beautiful and inspiring!
this past fall was my 1st year doing colorgaurd and im a junior so i only have next year and that will be it. I love this video and i wish i cld do this. you did amazing
incredible performance, flawless tosses and moves. as a new color guard member of my highschool band, i hope some day to achieve great skill and perform those moves! seriously, your solo was very graceful. well done
i swear this gives me so much motivation to work hard. i will strive to be elegant and work hard to achieve greatness in guard. thank you for the inspiration and congrats
@@kaseyannschlichte6338 little update, I actually made my schools teem and band camp is in two weeks and learning jazz walks are driving me crazy lol. Thank you for your help
My school has always been heavily involved with state competition, but in Iowa you have to have a team competing at the team state event to compete as a soloist. You register online with your coach or band director, at the ISDTA website, write a solo, travel, and compete!
I'm doing color guard for the first year at my school and love it. That was absolutely gorgeous and I hope that I can be that good someday. I can't imagine the time and practice that went into that so AMAZING job!!!
I remember seeing this in person and aspiring to be you. This is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know if you know where Marion, Iowa is, but that's where I'm from. This will be my last ISDTA, and I keep watching your video to help me feel the connection between music and movement. You're amazing!
You're so pretty! My color gaurd class is currently doing a solo competition for our finals so I'm trying to draw inspiration from shows and other solos
So like i had to solo for solo and ensemble last year it was so hard because i had to make a trio to a solo and i wasnt planing on doing it myself and i know how hard it is but you make it look so easy
This is beautiful!! Did you write this choreography yourself? If so, do you have any tips for writing such a beautiful piece? I'm wanting to start a winterguard, but I'm not sure where to begin when it comes to choreography. Love this solo, absolutely beautiful.
thank you so much! For starters, when I write a solo, I usually start by listening to the music a few times through and just really getting a feel for it. I try my best to make the choreography I use always have a reason for being there. Musicality you know? For example, I knew I wanted to put the jumping of the flag in there, so I listened to the music again and again to figure out where exactly that fit in best. (In short, find music you really love, that has interesting back beats and a story behind it. You're going to be listening to it a lot, so make sure you really love it).
I did a strip toss, a cone toss, a rowboat toss, a helicopter toss, a 45…and a few more that I didn’t give names haha! But sometimes people call them something different as well!
I would say just breathe and relax! I would rather, as a captain and coach, that someone shows they can put forth the effort and that they care a lot about the team than if they were too. Show you're a hardworker, you got this! I hope it goes well, please keep me updated :)
I am in color guard but can’t figure out how to do a toss without lifting my other arm or crouching when I let go how did you do your tosses so peacefully
Thank you so much! Honestly, it was just a ton of practice and trust in myself! In my first year (and really most of the second) I looked like a chicken with my head cut off! But I had to learn that the flag would come to me, I didn't need to reach up and grab it! That's the biggest tip I could give! Good luck love! :)
@@kaseyannschlichte6338 thank you that’s really helpful. It’s my third year and I’m just starting to get a little more confident with it. Good to know I’m not the only one
How do girls spin in skirts?! That always mystified me when I was performing in high school and I got my male uniform while all the girls got uniforms with skirts. I’d think the flag would get caught or flip the skirt up! It’s genuinely impressive. I’ve performed in a cape, (it was as hard as it sounds, and that particular routine involved an upside-down angel, which made it even worse) and while wearing dangling earrings, but never in a skirt… since I’m male, haha.
I think it’s honestly just something I’ve gotten used too! Luckily my skirt in this routine was very thin, so it flowed very easily, but a thicker skirt or a cape would be so difficult!
