Many thx for ur review! I was looking for new helmet, wanted Met Manta. After ur video walked to shop for Protone Icon - have 0 regrets) thx one more time!
Any chance you've had issues with the tightening ratchet system breaks on you? I've read more than a few reviews where people say one day all of a sudden the helmets doesn't tighten. I really like how it looks and want to get one but not if it has that issue.
In a single week I have bought two of these. Returned one last Wednesday because the adjustment dial fell apart within seconds of trying it on. And today exactly a week later I received another one in the post, and the exact same thing happened. For a helmet of £245 this is terrible. I've also seen another person reviewing it with the same problem...
That's funny, at the local Sea Otter expo the Kask booth had an demo helmet with same issue. We haven't had that issue with our helmet though, I suspect Kask may have just had a bad production batch. Hopefully you're able to get a replacement, it's an attractive helmet when everything is working.
I haven't run into that issue yet, but I do cycle through helmets quite a bit. Many helmets use these velcro style pads which I assume could be replaced if they were really worn down.
I don't know how aero this thing is and most likely less than both the Utopia and Wasabi which I both have. If it isn't lighter than those 2 by a lot then there is no point getting this one as for a not so aero helmet there is the #2 safest helmet tested by Virginia Tech but also one of the lightest in the market, the Lazer G1 MIPS (on discount as being discontinued replaced by the inferior in every way Vento).
Good point, unless you need a lot more ventilation I think the Utopia / Wasabi should be more than enough. I'm curious why you dislike the Lazer Vento though? We should be getting one soon to review.
@@TheSweetCyclists The fit is less comfortable than the G1. Heavier by 40gr when I weighted my size S. G1 Mips is ranked #6 while Vento #78 from the Virginia safest list. While #78 is still at the bottom of the 5 star level it's pathetic for a brand new tech helmet. 6 vs 78? Come on. Seems like Lazer just wants to stop using the proven Mips but failed in keeping their legendary safety std. The only good news is the Vento is as ventilated as the G1 due to the inside air channels.
Yes, typically the North America market version of the helmet is slightly heavier than the European ones due to the differences in helmet certification.
@@reallyitistolate Sorry, I don't know the actual weights for the european versions to confirm what the difference is - KASK customer support might be able to help. It's usually not that much, so I wouldn't worry about it. Even the large NA version we reviewed is still on the lighter end of the spectrum.
I bought that and immidietely returned it, the chin strap is annoying and uncomfy, the oakley is better than that and cost a fraction with boa and mips and all well thought out IMO
Sorry to hear that. I'm surprised you found the chin strap uncomfortable (it is soft and flexible in my opinion) - what didn't you like about it? We've also reviewed the Oakley ARO3 Lite - and it's also comfortable but I don't think it's as visually attractive as the KASK.
And as usual, if you have straight "undulating" hair, and dont wear cycling caps they will always find their way out through those vents. But aesthetics aside its like the F-35 of helmets
The glasses in the "on the road" section are the Oakley Kato sunglasses (our review for it is here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sA8IUhr0REA.html). They are cool looking sunglasses but have a polarizing design with the one-piece lens.
Although it is a two-piece shell (an upper and lower section), Kask describes it as a "seamless technology". Here is the blurb on their website: "The Protone Icon utilizes seamless technology, joining the lower and upper parts of the shell to create a refined and super-elegant look." My interpretation of this is that the two pieces are attached to each other in a smooth fashion so there is no visible lip or hard edge at the connection point.
