Yep, that's a favorite 3-4 day vacatio to do a hot springs tour hitting Ainsworth, Nakusp and Halcyon. They have really improved that tight little bridge and corner south of Ainsworth since I was last through there.
Strangely when trying to hit all or most of the Springs, although we did stop at many, for some reason we have missed Ainsworth and Harrison. Done Nakusp and Halcyon a few times. Am loving this trip and think about the road 70-80 years ago when there were no barriers along the edge between road and water just like on Slocan Lake. Seeing all the changes to the roads is like viewing the Toronto skyline changes over the past 60 years.
Back in the day, Kootenay Forest Products operated a plywood and lumber mill in Nelson. Dad worked on the James L and the Glaico tugboat’s moving logs from Lardeau , Crawford Bay and Creston.
The Vapor Caves in Glenwood Springs Colorado are pretty awesome. It is a series of small caves right next to I-70. It was used by the Native Americans. Don't wear jewelry or metal glasses because they will start to corrode in the cave thanks to the steam. They also have a spa for massages and beauty treatments. No I don't work there just a great place to relax. I also don't live in Colorado anymore. I think the trailer cam is pretty cool. I like watching how the pup reacts.
Boy, seeing this, I sure hit the good weather this past week, as I followed your tracks through to Cherryville and headed up to camp/kayak at Sugar Lake rec site#2. The deep forest smells and crystal clear waters were incredible. 🌲🤙
looking forward to finding part 2. Used to seeing roads like following the location of Ainsworth and having to cross the yellow. Once when travelling Calif. I departed, I believe it was 101 and got onto a road that kind of paralleled this highway. Well, it seemed like it did not have a straight stretch of more than about a hundred yards. At the time we were in a 1989 Chevy conversion van and the was torn the wheel R and then quickly turn it L etc. mile after mile. I got pooped. Came to an exit and entrance back to the highway and was glad to make the change. Fun to start with but it was a tough drive. Might be better on a motorcycle-- just hard to sleep on one of them particularly for 2. Kootenays are quite different from the Okanagan. A lot fewer people live in any community. Quite a few could be added together to equal even the Penticton population and P is dwarfed by Kelowna. Oh, loved the images from the rear camera. Rain can feel like an issue but your video was just fine and hearing the rain pounding down added a lot to the pleasure of the trip. TY
Yea, done some crazy roads in California too. As for rain, when it rains harder the water beads off better making for better videos then light drizzling
It would be a great road for a race. Mt Panarama, Bathurst, race track is like that, rock wall on one side and cliff on the other with trees to stop you if necessary Im presuming you know this race track, Well actually they spoilt it by putting up steel barruers in these sections.
