I don't like my government telling me how I can spend me money when it comes to something like this. The US government needs to refund everyone who paid for this IMO. The US government allows people to sell poisons in our foods and don't blink an eye. People from other countries often get sick when coming over and eat our versions of the same foods. But god forbid one of us wants to buy an antivirus software developed by someone in Russia... And I read their press release. It didn't say they had any evidence that it was tied to the Russian government. It just says they don't like that it is made in Russia, and they theorize that Russia may force them to do something that could hurt our infrastructures. So rather then come up with policies for government places that keep Kaspersky out, they just ban it for all US citizens

Well, move to Russia, then you won't be able to use any VPN service or access any social media website. Complaining that the USA is restricting freedoms because you can't use an expensive upsold antivirus connected to Russia when there are way better options based in better countries just seems petulant imo.

It's so stupid because it was all because of some NSA contractor writing malicious code for spyware on his computer while having Kaspersky installed. Kaspersky did what it was designed to do and detected a supposed threat to his PC. If it were any other antivirus, none of this would've happened in the first place.

@@TomSparkReviews Move to Russia? Are you an insane person? How do you get that I like Russia in any way from my post? Why don't you move to China since you buy so much stuff from there? Do you see the problems with your logic there? If the US bans Apple products because they're made in China, and then forces them to all to stop updating, how would you respond? China could order those factories to do anything to that stuff. The point is that they haven't the same way Russia hasn't. This isn't a discussion about if Russia or the US better. It's crazy to me that you thought it was that. It's about the US government taking away our rights to buy something that has done no harm, and at the same time giving a pass to things that are leading to the deaths of many US citizens. You've lost the plot.

my point wasn't about whether Russia or the US is better; it's about how cybersecurity choices should be made with care, especially when there are valid concerns about potential risks. Just as you're free to be cautious about the chemicals in your food, governments and individuals have the right to be wary of software developed in countries with different regulations or ties to their governments. Comparing Apple and China isn’t equivalent because Apple's operations are transparent, regulated, and subject to scrutiny in a global market, while Russia’s cybersecurity laws allow their government potential access to data, making products like Kaspersky a valid concern. The issue is about informed choices and protecting national security, not simply restricting freedom. Also, there are numerous antivirus alternatives from regions with fewer potential security concerns, which is why I emphasized exploring those options rather than framing this as purely about US government overreach. It’s about risk management, and each person should weigh the pros and cons accordingly. I'd also like to point out that the US isn't just targeting Russian software; it's also restricting Chinese-made products like DJI due to similar security concerns. This shows it's not about unfairly targeting one country but rather about protecting data and national security interests when there's a perceived risk. It's not always about 'us vs. them'-it's about evaluating potential threats and making informed decisions to minimize risks, whether it's from Russia, China, or any other country.

"Comparing Apple and China isn’t equivalent because Apple's operations are transparent" are you serious? I thought this sort of thing was your thing. Did you not know that Kaspersky has a transparency policy thing that allows state agencies and academia to look at their source code any time they want? Also, China has it codified that they can force a company to do whatever they want in their country. Do you think those factory workers living in China care about what Apple's policies are if the Chinese government tells them to do something? I understand the US does target China sometimes. I don't always like that either. It's the hypocrisy of what they allow people to put in our food. While at the same time they pretend like they care if my computer gets hacked... I just got out of the hospital a few months ago. I was told I need to stop eating processed foods if I want to live. People from other countries come over here and have all kinds of health issues, then fly home and are fine again. I just want them to care about something that has a proven track record of hurting us, instead of worrying about my computer that may or may not be threatened by Russia...

Is it just me or does a password manager just seem like an awful idea... lets give some company I don't know all my digital passwords... especially with the massive amount of "data breaches" damn near every company eventually claims to be victims of... when I all honesty I'd wager they sold it then just spin it as a data breach in the news

Ultra AV has about 5% of the features of Kaspersky. The list of comparison features is a curated lie. There was (Super uninstalled real fast) only a VPN and a virus scan program. No email protection, no browser extension that protects there, no banner blocker NO DANGUN DARK MODE. If you are like me and had Kaspersky and removed your Ultra AV make sure to log into the website and disable auto renew. Yeah you get enrolled in auto-renew. If it was a rebrand of kaspersky, I'd actually have been fine with it.

When I was running Kaskpersky yesterday for a full scan it actually detected 5 backdoors after I installed UtraAV. That does not give me confidence at all. As of 2024.09.24 I don't have Kaspersky or UltraAV installed on my PC.

Thanks Tom. I still have a Kaspersky anti-virus account, and I saw Ultra pop onto my computer last night and was quite perplexed. Cheers.

I was playing a game on my computer this morning and had a crash. None of my games would load after restarting my PC. Turns out it was UltraAv. I uninstalled it and everything was back to normal. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to switch to. I still have some time on my Kaspersky subscription and it still works...minus ant updates or support.
