Very impressive !!! I have study the footwork of the woman and she have a very good posture. She also stands every time on the top of the feet, in the movement and in the end. For me it sounds like the difference between the freedom inside the movement and the position at the end of the move. Sorry I look at this clip image after image. I don’t know the kata but I study the posture to learn and use inside my own martial art. Thanks a lot !!!!

Enjoying this series very much. In our aikido, we practice jo and sword kata but acknowledge them to be minimal explorations of both subjects and emphasize that they are "instructive" in exploring the same principles we find in empty hand work--not complete weapon systems at all. So I always enjoy seeing other jo and ken to see expressions that maybe go a bit deeper in the topic than aikido does.

Thank you David - This is very different to the Iwama style "weapons" I was brought up with but I'm finding lots of useful and interesting things in their kata.

Anyone know why they use the padded weapons? isnt it controlled enough to be safe? Just curious
@lionelhutton645

The padded weapons are a safety feature, both for beginner students and other overly exuberant practitioners.

@@lionelhutton645 Have done SMR for decades - have never seen the kenjutsu practiced with anything but unpadded wooden swords or even live blades.

Never seen ai sun etc done with anything but oak tachi. Were those plastic swords, or sheathed in some sort of protective layer? Beautiful dojo, btw. From whom do you have the SMR teaching, including the Kasumi Shinto Ryu kata? Who was your Jojutsu sensei/teacher?

@@AIKIDOSILVERDALE I trained with Steven J Bellamy, who was Deshi to Kuroda Ichitaro, who was the student of the last proper headmaster, Shimizu Takaji - was fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit Kaminoda Tsunemori at his Tokyo dojo, and train also with him. The art is a beautiful and demanding one, but I most admire the traditions and process of the training in strict Koryu methodology. Love to see it being practiced all over the world. Where is your beautiful dojo located.

Do you know how you write in Kanji. I have not heard of Kasumi Shito ryu. Or I can not find it anywhere. I don't know their style but generally speaking I do not think their Hassou no kamae is correct. Right elbow should be down. When they expose their arm like that their arms have more chance to get cut and raising elbows like that would restrict maneuverability.

Hi, thank you for your comments. I am sorry, I do not know how to write Kanji, but you can find an English description for Kasumi Shinto Ryu in Wikipedia. As for the Hassou position, you are right and I am grateful for your correction. Regards Lionel Hutton Auckland Jodo
