I don’t understand these premieres. Video is uploaded. Why not just release the videos? We all follow you every day. Here at the end we have to wait days to see the last ones. Why? We know you already summited. Makes no sense.
I’m hiking 30 miles a day. Roughly once per month I get 24 hours to sit down and not move. In those 24 hours, I don’t relax, I don’t go swimming. I sit down and I make you videos. I’m not going to publish 6 videos simultaneously. It destroys the flow. I’m also not going to maintain the illusion that the videos are unfinished. It’s no different to what I’ve been doing the entire trip, the only difference is you can see that they are done now. Do you remember television in the year 2000? All the episodes were made then too, and served on a commercialized (not a paid subscribership basis) over a 3 month period. If you pay for content, you get it all at once. This is not a subscribership model, this is not Netflix. This is RU-vid, it is in the public domain and commercialized by ads. So you get them delivered in a way that maximizes viewing audience, to maximize ad revenue. Does that make sense to you now?
1) good luck with your hike. Everybody here is cheering for you, esp the ones who care enough to post comments that might be deemed ‘negative’ (or deemed to be constructive feedback). 2) i pay for RU-vid and think it’s worth it - haven’t seen in a commercial except for in-video ads which i can skip. 3) you can ask AI how you can upload lots of videos in one day, but have them released at specified time periods/dates in way that will not create ‘premiere’ thumbnails for viewers. I just asked AI and gave a list of instructions/step by step for releasing scheduled videos (start off with videos as ‘private’).

@@RC-qf3mp a private video cannot be scheduled. There is no way in RU-vid to schedule a video for release without it being classified as a public premier.

I been following since you started. Your vid came up, and when I saw you stuck in the snow and dark, I said this guy is either expert level, or he's gonna die. I found out quick that you know what you are doing. I've followed in anticipation every day. Can't wait for the PCT.

I was imagining what my feelings would be and who would be the first hiker that I follow to reach the top of MT Baxter and the end of their AT adventure. Well you summed up your feelings perfectly and it was really exciting for me hear you express yourself by reflecting back on experiences. Congratulations! So excited to see you finish Katdin. I recall watching your SOBO start and thought it was going to take to much time. I watch ed Aquaman do a winter SOBO but he wasn’t doing a CYTC. I knew you could have done it but it was wiser to go SOBO and so it makes your victory all the sweeter. Blessings on your journey.

Congratulations, so very well done after seeing your start. I figured if that didn't stop you, it would be difficult to find much else that would!! But sometimes you tried quite hard to, the injury, the illness, that night on the "whites". Epic journey, whatever happens from now on, don't ever forget that. Oh and for what it's worth, you make and upload a video, I (and many others) enjoy them, not seeing the problem (confused)??? I rather enjoyed knowing you had finished safely, it's a lot less stressful. I remember near the start, (having not seen a video for ages), worrying about you and hoping you were still going.

You are a bad as* hiker. What an amazing, scary, beautiful and difficult hike. I’m so happy for you. Your videos are entertaining, inspirational, thought provoking and real. Thank you for taking the time to produce them, I don’t know how you hike and manage the video stuff. I’m sure some of those 20% that do make it cheat or lie. We will never know the real statistics unfortunately.
Congratulations on the AT! Your experience with the AT as that hard trail is partly because you're doing it in the winter. Not that it's easy, but it's much easier in the summer. The AT is a perfect preparation for the PCT. You'll cruise thru unless you hit snow again and you probably wont if you do it in around three months. The miles comes much easier on the PCT and if you do 3+ mph on the AT you'll get closer to 4 on the PCT with the same effort. The problem (at least for me) was that at around 4 mph it's hard to walk faster, I'd have to start jogging to increase speed further and then each step is harder on the joints and the pack starts to move more on your back. Don't know anything about the CDT, but good luck with the calendar year triple crown!

It’s great that you got to be atop Katahdin without there being a large crowd. I prefer Baxter park during the winter due to the sense of solitude, not many places I’ve been and felt separated from society. Congratulations on completing your first leg of the journey.
Congrats on a great AT hike. About hiking videos w/words - see Herman Hoek’s videos. No words, LOTS of views. A first rate hiking videography. An artist. Hikers tend to watch looking for tips/tricks on hiking particular trails, or nostalgia for trails they have already hiked. So ‘normal’ hiking videos w/o much verbal content might not get so many views or likes or comments. But if you want to go the artistic route, well, that’s a very high bar and there’s competition, and who knows how the algorithm works for getting a first-timers video out there. In any case, I’ll check out your Arizona trail video sooner or later.
Good point. But what he does is a bit different. He does typically week long hikes, and the purpose of the hike is to film it. My hike was 800 miles into the wilderness. It’s more the real thing. But his videography is objectively better. It’s just harder for me to get into because the purpose of it is to film it. I might be interested in doing that at some point, but I’m also a bit turned off by it, because it feels inauthentic. Quite happy to hear any critical feedback when you do watch it. I think you will see, what I created is half Harmon Hoek (but not as good) and half a real hike (like hoek but better).

I've been waiting for your PCT hike, yesterday morning a notification came on my phone saying Jaru Walks and something about the PCT, I was so excited it tapped it and it said "this video is private" so I'm not sure why that came up but when I went back on notifications I can't even find the title of that video. Please tell me you will be putting out some more of your CYTC hikes.
Note for viewers: The Birches are closed in the winter. Camping inside Baxter is by reservation only. There's a nice bunkhouse at Katahdin Stream as well as lean-tos and tentsites.
Congratulations Nightshift on completing leg #1 of your calendar year Triple Crown! I so look forward to continuing the journey with you, and truly appreciate the effort you put into these videos so we can all see your travels. I have been watching from the start and enjoy every moment, the scenery, your challenges, but most of all your positive attitude in the worst of circumstances at times. If I were a bit younger and still had my hubby with me I would consider doing the AT as I would have the support that I need. But having said that, the Smokies are my stomping grounds, and my best friend and I, aka Thelma and Louise, are currently on the last bit of our journey to complete every trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, 4 more backpacking trips and we will have them. That will be my AT! I so look forward to following you on the PCT and the CDT. I love your perspective and your "rants.". You remind me of my son...lol .... and that is a good thing! Strategicall (big picture) I consider this a borderline perfect hike of the AT, there is nothing in my strategy from the start or during the hike that I would have changed. Tactically (small picture) there were a few mistakes: moving to quickly in frozen postholes in the Smokies (caused sprained knee), not carrying a double supply of chemical treatment (caused Giardia), and not mailing myself microspikes before the first 4000 ft. peaks in Vermont (caused me to almost drop out of the AT), and not bringing a flotation device to attack to my pack when fording the Kennebec (caused possibility of losing my pack if I lost footing the in the deep section, but if this had happened I was prepared to ditch my pack). My pacing was literally perfect. Holding to the continuous footpath was the right call for me as well. People seem to think it is a blunder to not abandon the continuous footpath in exchange for locking in a flip flopped CYTC. I want a calendar year experience in all conditions; I do not want a fair weather 9-month ultra marathon; there is no excitement in the flipflopped approach to me, unless the weather forced it as an absolute necessity.
