A magic moment happened to me in Dublin one night. It was my first trip to Europe. I was at a pub with my friend waiting for a local band to perform and this song came on the jukebox. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever hear that song outside of my cd player, let alone out in public somewhere. I sang along and felt like my heart would burst. It was pure joy. That night I felt truly at home for the first and only time ever. A few days later, I came back home and that whole trip seemed like a dream. I have never been as happy since. 🎀👠
Y’all better quiet down. I’ve been trying to get up here all day for your gay brothers and your gay sisters in jail that write me every motherfucking week and ask for your help and you all don’t do a goddamn thing for them. Have you ever been beaten up and raped and jailed? Now think about it. They’ve been beaten up and raped after they’ve had to spend much of their money in jail to get their [inaudible], and try to get their sex changes. The women have tried to fight for their sex changes or to become women. On the women’s liberation and they write ‘STAR,’ not to the women’s groups, they do not write women, they do not write men, they write ‘STAR’ because we’re trying to do something for them. I have been to jail. I have been raped. And beaten. Many times! By men, heterosexual men that do not belong in the homosexual shelter. But, do you do anything for me? No. You tell me to go and hide my tail between my legs. I will not put up with this shit. I have been beaten. I have had my nose broken. I have been thrown in jail. I have lost my job. I have lost my apartment for gay liberation and you all treat me this way? What the fuck’s wrong with you all? Think about that! I do not believe in a revolution, but you all do. I believe in the gay power. I believe in us getting our rights, or else I would not be out there fighting for our rights. That’s all I wanted to say to you people. If you all want to know about the people in jail and do not forget Bambi L’amour, and Dora Mark, Kenny Metzner, and other gay people in jail, come and see the people at Star House on Twelfth Street on 640 East Twelfth Street between B and C apartment 14. The people are trying to do something for all of us, and not men and women that belong to a white middle class white club. And that’s what you all belong to! REVOLUTION NOW! Gimme a ‘G’! Gimme an ‘A’! Gimme a ‘Y’! Gimme a ‘P’! Gimme an ‘O’! Gimme a ‘W’! Gimme an ‘E! Gim me an ‘R’! [crying] Gay power! Louder! GAY POWER!
It was written by Hans Christian Anderson. The little girl coveted the Red Shoes, and thought only about them when she was in Church. She wore the Red Shoes to Church, which was unseemly. There was an old man one day at the Church door and commented on her pretty red dancing shoes. He cursed her, thus she had to dance, day and night, her dancing Red Shoes taking her everywhere. When she tried to take them off, she realized that they had grown to her feet. She finally danced to the executioners house and begged him to cut her feet off, which he did, her feet in the Red Shoes went dancing away. He made her a pair of wooden feet and crutches. In the end, she repented, begged for Mercy, and then, have my been pious and good, died and went to heaven.
Factually Kate claims she never read the book but got inspired to copy the film THE RED SHOES with Moira Shearer 1948. Same with Wuthering Heights- never read the book. If she did she NEVER would have romanticized the monster Heathcliff. She just saw the Laurence Olivier 1940s film Hounds of Love directly stole script lines from film Curse of The Demons with Dana Andrews. The list goes on of all the direct ripoffs of films Kate Bush condenses into a 4 minute song. Women’s Work from film THE GOOD EARTH. Not the book but the film. Kate finally gets confronted by journalists and admits most all songs are after she views a film and then condenses the plot into a song. Nothing original to see here folks. But if you never watch old films you will be blissfully ignorant or Kate may inspire you to find the originals.

@@strangerthings88 Commenter Ferula96 lays it all out on the table. Yes Kate Bush is a very accomplished artist. Who took inspiration AND material from old movies. Inspiration from life... as in crooning, folk and country. Pop, as in popular, the cool thing. QED. To me commenter Ferula96 lifted the veil of mystery around Kate Bush a bit. Thank you, and greetings from Amsterdam from Mishko_
I have no words to sum up my admiration for Kate Bush, she's just an incredibly talented person everything she's produced is pure pleasure and artistic, I've followed her all my life since I was young, god bless you Kate!! 😊❤❤👍
It seems based on an old folk tale about a wicked little girl who wouldn't take off her red shoes and so she was cursed to keep dancing for all eternity until she was forced to cut her feet off. I read that tale as a child.
yes ,some of Kate's work had been inspired by literary works from famous writers. I am not surprised that this song was inspired by a fairy tale- the dancing red shoes....
vanillaorchid It's based more on the story by Hans Christian Anderson than the 1948 Michael Powell film, although Kate has cited the film has a partial influence of the song - "She move like the diva do/She said I want to dance like you".
Moira Shearer portrayed the prima ballerina in the classic 1948 film, The Red Shoes. Actor Miranda Richardson plays the dancer in this vid. Well done Kate.
Kate Bush is Etheral and otherworldly as an artist, yet so down to earth and humble in person. It’s that crazy division between artistry and relatability that makes her so brilliant.
The Red Shoes was the first Kate Bush album I ever bought, when it was in the charts. She was like no other artist out there. An amazing and original artist.
Miranda Richardson and Kate Bush, imagine being in the company of these two absolute monsters of talent with stupendous beauty when this video was recorded. Now that's my dream tonight!
Kate Bush you are the best of all best musical artist ever to walk the Earth. Keep on producing this sort of Music and you will never go wrong. Long live KATE BUSH.
The 90's were so great for so many reasons. One was that Kate Bush crossed over easily into "alternative". Her whole catalog has been an alternative. Seeing her video as a child for Cloudbusting then in my teens I get this whole Red Shoes package. Visual and audio dynamite. Kate Bush forever!
i love this! x I love Miranda Richardson..cannot believe its her. I love when she says you need three pieces of paper..."I think I have some on the...piano" ..like we all do....I love how Kate B smiles at 2.43, I love the bandaged hands, I love the way the old man grits his teeth and stomps his staff, I love the way her feet dangle in the air and wiggle and i love the devils, the campest devils I have ever seen with their red flouncy red string..this is such a joy. Then it gets spooky.
It's not even in my top 30 from Kate but can't help rewatching, exciting filming, choreography, the 2 girls captivate by their beauty & expressions, Kate most of course.
@@matthewvp8507 Sorry but she was born and raised in England - her mother was Irish...She is English. The fact she may have a wailing violin on a few tracks does not cause her to suddenly obsess over potatoes. If I picked up a pair of bagpipes tomorrow, I will not turn Scottish...sorry if this is revelatory. Robert Shaw was English. He moved to Ireland towards the end of his life and his grandchildren were born and raised there....by your logic they're English then, yeah? Your pathetic attempt to claim English talent and magically pretend they are a nationality they aren't is insanity and stupidity of epic proportions.
@@iiinicka We all age. There is no point pretending otherwise and deluding ourselves . She was more beautiful when she was younger, everyone is. Youth in itself is sensual, old age is not.
@@Georgia.J True and the best was shot at Efteling in the Netherlands, its the best "Man with the child in his eyes", which happens to my fav Kate song.
I love this song so much! It sounds kind of Irish to me and I love when she has that as an influence even though I'm a Swede myself. It makes you wanna dance and you don't even realize how dark the lyrics is...I mean dancing until your legs fall off? That's so scary. But it's so catchy and I love the way she sings in this too. I love the visuals, say what you want about this movie but the visuals are stunning. My favorite part is when she's dancing and looks insane, and it's so cool that she could do the ballet part herself!
"I need three pieces of paper. I think I have some..on the piano". What a coincidence! 😂😂😂 It's not my favourite song from Kate but it's still a very good song that many artists would never dream of write/sing.
@Richard Amner My all time favourite song from Kate is "Breathing" - the one about nuclear holocaust seen from a fetus' perspective. It's so intense. It has such a deep and meaningful lyrics, such a powerful, evocative and profound message. The chorus at the end is a masterstroke, it's chilling and adds a solid layer to this track. I have been listening to this song over and over again since I discovered it.♥️ I greet you warmly from snowy, winterly Poland. 👋😃
Can we talk about the irony of the Phantom of the opera esque passing thru a mirror and the fact that Richardson played mdme giry in the movie version of the ALW musical?
What's up with Kate Bush videos and actors from Blackadder? Stephen Fry, Timothy Mckinnerry and Miranda Richardson featured in different videos from different albums.
Just put on her pretty red shoes and your dream'll come true. It will be the way you always dreamnt it would be but it will be no illusion. But it's gonna be really happening to ya.
Little known fact, more so to Wirralonians, Lindsay Kemp the movement artist she took lessons from and is in this video was born in Birkenhead. To call him a mime artist would be like calling Mozart a piano player. He inspired her to write "Moving". That is how much she valued him.
sometimes in electronic media looking performances from kate bush. often can find her oldschool videos here. every time her works create deep impression in my heart. in my brain, too, of course. putting it mildly, really. her creations possess so strong energy. feel it. by other words can say: at result got recharging of all my body, minds and can move on more and more.
Woman all ive known hate her and gets very nasty when i play her ... They are afraid and threatned by her .. So they should ps im irish and she is part kin xx
No I've not. Always wanted to. I missed it once and caught the ljast 3 minutes. I shall watch it though. I did read Wuthering Heights because of her song.
This is the best thing on RU-vid. Kate Bush, Miranda Richardson... it cannot get any better than this. Shut the whole thing down, its purpose has been achieved. And Lindsay Kemp is great in this. This is the best thing on RU-vid, it cannot get any better than this. For anyone looking for the entire film... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fI4aLYHSbuQ.html Thanks Alain, you're a legend.
I loved the film ‘The Red Shoes’ I would snuggle up with my Nan, it brings back so many memories, I’m so glad that Kate is finally getting the recognition she deserves, she’s mad a a box of frogs but I’m so here for her 😍
Thank you so much for unloading this video. I lost my copy of this and Kate's interview about The Red Shoes many moons ago. Haven't seen this video or heard this song for a VERY long time. So thank you very much.
I recall she was talking about working with Michael Powell on this project shortly before he passed away. That would have been quite something and a fine swansong to Powell's remarkable career.
I've always loved me a mono brow, though on men as that is the team I bat for. Still loving this as much as I did when it was released, then again I have love Kate since I was 5 years old and Wuthering Heights was released. God I am old. 🥺 😀
