I remember 8 years ago I was doing photography for a mother baby unit, and I walked into a room and thought the people I saw were the grandparents. I asked when will the parents would return, and the nurse took me out of the room to say these are the parents 😮. She told me the father and mother were both in their 70s, had a natural pregnancy, and this was their 12th child🙁! I remembered this after hearing the story Sherri shared about the lady in Uganda.

If it’s a natural birth I don’t see the issue. On one instance the country says it’s pro life. Now we have age restrictions on birth. Weird.

Miss Sherri, respectfully, you speak about the 70yr old mother from your (western) cultural perspective. While you may be right about the challenges of having kids in old age, African culture is very different and children belong to the. community and not to the individual. She is very right about "taking a village" to raise the kids because it truly, literally does take a village in the part of the world she's from. I speak from firsthand knowledge because I am African too.

It's in Africa Sherri It's a different way to take care of kids. It's not only the family's responsibility to grow up in Africa the village/ community responds. Your common you make it is it's only for American kids and families.

I agree having a baby at 70 years old is not fair to the little one. You certainly need a LOT of ENERGY and no matter how good shape you're in as an elderly woman/man you can't handle it. Teenagers are too much even in your late thirties or forties !!!!

I feel like we are selfish, self-centred and literally forgot 1) God said go out and multiply 2) Family was once upon a time the true support system until we were talked and forced into reducing population and having 1 or no kids at all coz they are expensive and too much to handle coz we have careers 3) Sarah from the bible was 90 when God blessed her with a child. God doesn't give you what you can't handle. Congratulations Safina. Through you, the values of African traditions will help raise those kids with or without you around

Its YOU- ganda noy OOO-ganda fyi Sherri if you were blessed to have a child naturaly, youre lucky. You dont know anyones circumstances. Maybe she was unable to get children and now shes able to afford IVF - Which is extremely expensilve, coz maybe she worked her entire life for it. So let her have her child in peace. She probably didnt want to die without children. Though I agree its unfair for the children

You can't be a talkshow host and see the world with a limited view. Raising a child in Africa is different from doing same in the US. Respect is part of the culture. It takes the village to raise a child. I agree it is unfair on the children but if now is the time she's been able to afford getting children and she really wanted them, who are we to stop her?
