Kate Martin still has a ways to go, though I'm sure she'll get there. She came in for a few minutes at the beginning of the fourth quarter tonight, and then didn't come back until "garbage time" near the end when the bench was cleared of reserves with the game in hand. She played a total of 8 minutes with 2 points, 1 rebound and no assists.
@@johnp4471 I agree. While her trajectory will of course be different that Kaitlyn Clark's, you can see Clark getting steadily better and her team improving along with her.
@@mochalatay1 True that! What I liked about tonight's game, until the result was sealed, is that the Aces held their own even when Chelsea was off the court. The fans really love her not just because she's such an intelligent player, but also because she's having so much fun out there and is clearly so happy to be back. There was one great sequence after Chelsea had engineered a jump ball that she really hammed it up! As I'm also a rabid UConn fan, I root for Kiah Stokes, who had one of her best games tonight with 7 points and 10 rebounds, and blocked very well on the defensive boards.
Kate seems to have a level head for the game. Becky Hammon says, and I agree, that she knows where to put herself on the court. Right now her best offensive play seems to be three-pointers from the corner. I have season tickets and live 5 minutes from the Aces practice facility, where I get to drop in now and then due to someone I know. Kate is not a game changer, but the full measure of her talent and staying power will be where she is after a year or two, I will tell you that her teammates like her A LOT!
I think she has the potential to become a very solid 3 and D player, and to be the type of player of whom you can say, at the end of their career, that they have made the absolute most out of the talent they have been given. I hope it works out for her.
Martin wasn't even talked about during the draft. They made it seemed like she was showing up to support her friend Caitlin. She was no more than a reason to get rid of Fair. However, Wilson and the rest isn't paying attention to that. Where are all these so called pro blk media and players to defend Fair? LOL. That is how you handle people with a one track mind.
Nobody from this year. They cut Dyiasha Fair, who was their other pick. Wilson, Plum, Young and Bell were all original Aces draft picks from prior years.
This is called "I'm going to take Caitlin's best friend". As for Kate, she is a good player, but not a great player, and she is too naive to see what is going on, or she just doesn't want to. If you think I'm making this up, just go and watch the video where A'ja made, yes, made, Kate wear a SC jumpsuit, you know, the team that A'ja was on and the team that had just beaten Iowa in the championship game.
