We clearly need to have a Kingsman episode. I will not take this Colin Firth unfit for action movies slander just kidding but a Kingsman ep pls haha

In the book, Bridget has an undiagnosed eating disorder. She loses so much weight that her friends have to help her recover. If you look at the weights listed in the book, they start in the 120's and go down from there. It's supposed to be upsetting, and you're supposed to understand that she's got unrealistic expectations for herself. I was really mad that Renee Zellweger gained weight for the movie. She's not supposed to be a normal-looking woman who wants to lose weight. She's supposed to be a thin woman who wants to lose weight. Also, young hosts: they're not emailing each other. They are using intra-office messaging, which used to be a thing.

Colin played Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and in Bridget Jones and that makes sense to me

Colin Firth proved that he can be an action star in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) & Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), and also star in dramas like A Single Man (2019), Before I Go to Sleep (2014), 1917 (2019) & Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). Hugh Grant proved that he can be more then just the Romantic Comedy guy in The Undoing (2020), The Gentlemen (2019) & A Very English Scandal (2018).

If someone's name ends in an s and you want to make it possessive, you can just put an apostrophe at the end, the way we would do to indicate a plural possessive. For example, "James' truck." It's implied that we aren't talking about more than one James. HOWEVER it's not considered incorrect to also add an 's to the end instead. So we could also say "James's truck." Just in case anyone was wondering. :)

I love Bridget Jones so much! She is every woman. It is a big rite of passage in my mind when you go from thinking this movie was written just for you to realizing that EVERY woman is Bridget Jones. I am so glad you all loved it! Please watch the sequel, Edge of Reason. There are some things ya’ll touched on that are important in that one.

Re: the voice over in the film...the book is literally written as Bridget’s diary, so really the only way to incorporate that into the film is to have the notes on screen and her reading excerpts from the days’ (see what I did there 😉) entries in VO. Loved this episode because this is MY guilty pleasure film, too!

this was SO fun! kate is a joy and the vibe between you all as a group is so good, this ep really felt like hanging out with friends

This is my all time favorite comedy!!! So much rewatch ability and truly holds up over the years, I laugh till I cry everytime, God Renée can act😄

Anyway, this man have done many things and not just being an action movie star.

How did you guys talk about Bridget Jones for 58 minutes without mentioning that it is a modern adaptation of Pride & Prejudice!??! I feel like at least one of you has an English Lit teacher that is super annoyed with you LOL

Did they forget that Colin Firth played a James Bond type character in Kingsman and its sequel? He has the range.

In terms of not understanding the title, you need to read the book. The book is fantastic for starters, but it’s in diary form (the movie does touch on it but it’s not as clear). It’s absolutely hilarious- one of few books to make me laugh out loud repeatedly, despite the strange looks I kept getting from the other people on the train!

Anytime Kate is here...yup, immediately invested.

Excuse me, but how is ‘Bridget Jones Diary’ a ‘guilty pleasure’? It’s pleasure for me PERIODT. That Intro Scene where she’s dancing in her pyjamas is ME IRL.

Colin Firth does not play 'a normal guy' in Bridget Jones. In British society he would actually be considered very very posh (part of the elite), just like Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. To add to that, one of the underlying themes in Bridget Jones is thus the insecurity that can come from dating / marrying up the social ladder (in a class based society like the UK).

Ok- I thoroughly support a woman embracing her sexuality, and I love it even more when i it is being done by a woman I adore (like Kelsey). But I’m not gonna lie, my lesbian ass actually started gagging in the first few minutes with that semen discussion. I genuinely didn’t expect that visceral reaction... but here we are. I love all three of you so very much!
