I was recently told at a quilt shop not to use different weight threads on top and bottom, but you used 100 weight on the bottom and 40 wt. on the top. It looks beautiful.
Did they give a reason. Sometimes they say things like that out of perhaps traditions but if it works and looks great why would you say that. Threads today are better than ever.
I attach a long ribbon to my spacer and then put that on one of the legs in front of the extension table. Not dislocating my spacer anymore.. it's now always available.
This is a different shape. It curves back on itself so not sure it would be as easy with a regular feather. I do have these in my shop though www.fabrikatedquilts.com/shop.htm
Kate, would you do any stitching in the ditches (if this were a large quilt top) first to hold the quilt sandwich together a bit before doing any template work on the individual blocks? You’re the best teacher for using these templates - love these tutorials! 🙂
I would ditch any areas where the quilting would not cross lines, like a square block and border or something. If the quilting will cross over I would wait to ditch or ditch the closest outlining areas.
Have only recently found you. I tried this before with no instructions and not happy with the results. Now I want to try it again. Thank you for you great teaching. How often do you do this? I would like to join live some time.
I am broadcasting live most Sundays on the Sew Steady Facebook page at 3 pm Mountain Time. My Freemotion Friday events are on my FabiKated Quilts FB page at 10 am Mountain time. These may change some days due to travel or other classes or holidays but I try to be consistent as much as possible. I will usually note if there is a change to time or if I will be unavailable. facebook.com/FabriKatedQuilts/ facebook.com/groups/FabriKatesRulerQuiltingCrew facebook.com/SewSteady/
I love this template set! Didn't think I would but I do. I've added it to my wishlist which is now up to about $1000. Have you ever demonstrated how to do a feather wreath using these or some other templates? I am proficient with the feather templates but have no idea how to use them to create a wreath. Thanks for another support video. You are my favorite RU-vidr!
Yes of course-it a horrible secret that Westalee products were originally made for Longarm users. Not sure why people don’t know but almost every template we have is made in a quarter inch format. If you need any help finding something let me know!
The spin e fex feathers that I have don’t have a key, they are just open. I called sew steady and they said they don’t make them with a key anymore. And my set isn’t called set 8 just spin e fex feathers , same sizes. Your a really great teacher.
If I am doing a feather fill over a triangle shape and I use a wavy spine, can I use the template to create different sizes of feathers as I go along thecspine?
You you can but templates are difficult to make them curl around an inside section. Outside is usually okay. Also gentle curves are easier than deep curves.
Hi Carrie-you can email at Kate@fabrikatedquilts.com. I am an authorized reseller. Please let me know what shank style you need-low, high or Longarm and I can email you an invoice.
