I don't understand how some people have special voices that just feel completely comforting and magical. Kate Rusby is one of those people, James Taylor is another. And this is a gorgeous arrangement of a beautiful song!
Born & raised in Central North Carolina, this song hits me right in the heart! James Taylor is one of my favorite singer-songwriters, and, he happened to grow up in Carrboro, NC which gave him the inspiration to write this beautiful song. Carrboro is about 45 miles east from our small town of Franklinville. I just recently discovered Kate, and I'm sure glad I did! Her rendition of this classic song is stunning & beautiful! Kate, you have a new fan to add to your long list of fans from around the world! 🙂♥
Every time I hear her sing, I am reminded of a quote from Peter Bradley Adams. "I guess in this culture of ever shortening attention spans, it's good if a song can lift us out of the madness, even if only for a few minutes." Thank you Kate for giving us great music.
Omg this to me is so so special. A convergence of two majestic voices. I'm taken back to the 1999 Cambridge folk festival where I saw Kate for the first time. The main stage was graced with her singing "Jolly plowboys" and what a fitting precursor to James top of the bill performance later that evening. To have so much talent on one stage in one day was like a musical "spring tide" I still have the program. It kicked off with Kate followed by such greats as Hal Ketchum, the battlefield band, Louden Wainwright III Suzie Boggus and almost last but not least, James Taylor. Standing in front of so many superstars on one stage literally 15 ft away was one of the best experiences of my life and 24 years later James posts that concert on his you tube channel. What a fitting tribute of Kate to cover this song thus cementing for me the connection of two master artists and so beautifully done. Thank you.
This song moves me to tears, I remember the song from yester year, heard it a lot when I was young. I’ve loved Kate for 15 years and through the difficult last few years I didn’t listen to her much. Listened to angrier music. Only just recently been able to listen to her again, and today I found this song. It brings home to me the beauty and the purity of her voice and the beautiful lyrics of this song make it magical. A masterpiece 😊
Gosh. Such a beautiful voice. Love this song. I've heard Kate a few times - a late friend of mine was a big fan - but I've not heard this. Sweet Baby James must love it. Miss you Rob, you grumpy old bugger.
Heard "Who Will Sing Me Lullabies" on After Life. I had to learn that song! I played it for a group of friends at our acoustic jam last month. I am over the moon that I have found this artist!
Here in the desert of Australia & in my mind I'm goin' back to ol' blighty for all the beautiful folk music ~ What a beautiful version 🙏💕 (love the tv idea!)
So, when will you be visiting the Carolinas?! Won't be making it across the pond any time soon and would love to hear you in person! Until then, thanks for the videos. ♥
Part of me wants Kate's popularity to explode, and another wants to keep her to myself. I never thought this song could be any better than the original.
I too just discovered Kate Rusby recently (Who Will Sing Me Lullabies). My all time fabourite version of Carolina on My Mind is still Melanie Safka's ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tz0hB9rrmQA.html Kate's is a very close second.
It would be nice to hear some traditional folk from you Kate although I love anything you sing and write. My favourite of all time is Until Morning. I love James Taylor's singing too. Keep on keeping us entertained.
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine? Can't you just feel the moonshine? Maybe just like a friend of mine To hit me from behind Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind Well Karen she's a silver sun You best walk her way and watch it shinin' Watch her watch the mornin' come A silver tear appearing, now I'm cryin' Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind There ain't no doubt it no one;s mind That love's the finest thing around Whisper something soft and kind Yes and hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm dyin' Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine, sugar? Can't you just feel the moonshine? Maybe just like a friend of mine To hit me from behind Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind Dark and silent late last night I think I might have heard the highway calling Geese in flight and dogs that bite Other signs that might be omens say I'm going, going I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind And it's with a holy host of others standing 'round me Still I'm on the dark side of the moon And it seems like it goes on like this forever You must forgive me If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind In my mind I'm goin', goin' to Carolina Can't you see the sunshine? Can't you just feel the moonshine? Maybe just like a friend of mine To hit me from behind Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind Said I'm goin' to Carolina I better get back on home again real soon 'Cause I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
