One of my favourite Oscar moments of all time, love Kate’s speech so much. And love that up on that stage is Kate who is British, with Sophia an Italian, Nicole an Australian, Marion who is French, Shirley an American, and Halle a mixed race African American. All so talented and wonderful.

If you listen around 6:00 right after she wins you can hear her dad whistle the first time. They must’ve talked about doing something like that so she could find him but she was so swept up initially she didn’t hear the first one! So adorable. The second try made Oscar history.

Kate Winslet, to be completely honest, is the best actress of her generation. One of the best of all time! And although she has 1 Oscar (on 7 nominations!) and 4 Golden Globes (on 11 nominations!!) under her belt I think she's still underrated LOL

She is, in my opinion the Meryl Streep of her generation. I mean this in meaning the quality and depth that she goes too..like Meryl she goes deep into her roles and becomes them. They are similar because they engulf the characters and artists in their art. Love them both!!

Lea Gebbie McLaine impresses me in the way she seems to move through life on her own terms. She was never, for example, the "Hollywood paradigm," all image and not substance. It's a wonder she didn't go more towards Broadway than Hollywood for that reason.

"The Reader" was one of the best contemporary films I've ever seen and it changed my opinion of Kate Winslet's acting abilities. She was truly magnificent.
