Katherine, we definitely need to clone you, all over the world. I’m a grandmother of five and great grandmother of four wonderful young humans and I wish we had a school like yours for our great grandchildren. Go from strength to strength fabulous lady you are exactly what the world needs now. All power to you.
@@calastyphon3414No capital letter or full stop, I can see your lefty teachers did well with you. 100% on brainwashing dogma, 0% on skills needed to help your country (although I'm sure that very idea brings you out in a cold sweat).
Kindy teacher chiming in here… vast majority of teachers want kids to like/love them more than they (teachers) want to establish order and let their “no” mean “no.” They think kids are the fragile ones, but it it them who are fragile.
Well spoken, Katharine. So many well-constructed and passionate speeches at this event - but one can only hope that those attending ARE actually moved to be less cowardly and more vocal in opposing the headlong dash towards self-serving middle class wokery. I frankly doubt it, but at least this event - hopefully staged annually hereafter - will provide a focus and an impetus for the few who value community and heritage over “status” - that huge gift which Big Tech has endowed us with. Fabulous contribution, Katharine, to an enormously impressive event. Thank you. 👏🏼
"The Greatest Love of All" was not originated by Whitney Houston, although her version became the best known. The song was written to accompany the end credits of a 1977 film called "The Greatest" about Muhammad Ali. George Benson originated the song. It's not a great example to use for the purpose here. It's a song about instilling in young (Black) children a sense of pride--and the primary message is "I believe that children are the future...teach them well, and let them lead the way." The chorus goes as follows: "I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow--if I fail, if I succeed, at least I lived as I believed." This song is actually about EDUCATING kids to understand where they come from, and to have pride in themselves, and to live according to their beliefs; i.e., personal responsibility. "Teach them well, and let them lead the way." Ms. Birbalsingh needs a different example.
There is a place for different teaching styles, but if we are going to pick the one that works for most, Ms Birbalsingh appears to have the bull by the horns. She raises people to not make excuses, be grateful for the wealth of education they receive and do something with it. A good school like hers is an island now. It used to be normal.
I’m a teacher. Ostracised and challenged because ‘inside’ the school I don’t quite fit with some, who she rightly labels as cultural gatekeepers. As for the parents, I’m apparently a roaring success. Listen very carefully to what Ms says here. No chewing gum!!
You’re a minority Einstein! If you paid more attention to things rather than living in a little echo chamber of bigotry, you’d know that! Your ilk is a dying breed, thank god!
Like the use of the term “Liberal” in America, the Conservative brand in the UK has now been virtually stripped of all meaning and relevance. Westminster “Conservatives” either need to re-embrace real conservatism VERY RAPIDLY, or the reasonable & largely unacknowledged majority of the country, need to rally around a new Nationalist movement which will uphold the values that the Tories have now retreated from.
I think the problem is the outdated words of the national anthem, which is about our unelected head of state. Other people have anthems about the country and its people. Personally, I'm very patriotic and incredibly conservative culturally; but I come from a dissenting background and don't acknowledge the legitimacy of an outdated and superannuated monarchy and the current oligarchic constitutional settlement. So I can hardly be expected to sing the national anthem with any enthusiasm, if at all.
Send your kids to church schools. Mine went to Hebrew junior schools(albeit none of us are Jewish) and my son to a Jesuit Senior school (none of us catholic)my daughter to an Anglican Senior school (we're nominally Presbyterian!) And none came out religious but were well educated.
Last 3 minutes of Katherine's speech made me cry 👏🏽 Churchill would have been proud! Well done ✔️ Reminds me of every teacher I had during my school career in the 80s😅
Katharine should create her own party and become a prime minister, then discipline our politicians who are so confused about pretty much everything. They are like children with no boundaries and nobody to show them where those boundaries are.
I’m interested. I was a teacher. Near the beginning of the wasteland of emptiness. The lack of a sense of ‘my’ country. I admire you as a fighter against the emptiness. My training was to operate without the cultural pillars of life. So that (with some hesitance) I didn’t even know what I didn’t know. I was also leftist. As an RE teacher one of my A level students once commented that she wanted to learn ‘IT’ instead of about ‘IT’. I had no answer. But I do now. I dropped the group thing and made them face me. But what was it ‘I’ was bringing for them?
Why would anyone who doesn't want to teach there, teach there? Or any of the administrative support, for that matter? They can all go be peas in a pod at any ordinary school, where they will all hear exactly what they want to hear coming out of the mouths of their peers all day every day.
I read and liked Mrs Burble Sing's book 'To Miss, With Love', about teaching in London Comprehensive Schools some years ago and it was very good and rang true. That was before the Michaela Academy and before Critical Race Theory. I sometimes wonder though, with all her media appearances, how much time she can have left for running her school. Her speech is truly scary. Have we already lost? How can this have happened?
I would never have thought of myself as conservative but I absolutely agree with this impressive teacher and with Elon Musk. Woke culture is actually rather pathological.
A less woke school is not good enough, I want a no woke school for my children, where they are inspired to become Saints, to grow in Holiness and virtue and extent the reign of Christ the King.
Full of lazy assumptions, buzz words and imagined greivences. Demonstrates a biased and partial understanding of the culture and dynamics within the education system. Very light on any detail. If your call to arms is to 'tweet in your own name' then it is hardly likely to inspire any meaningful change.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing the world he doesn't exist. Believe me, I've been a teacher, the left-wing dogma permeating schools is as suffocating as it is disturbing. But thats getting you what you want isn't it, so its "nothing to see here".
The problem is with mundane people who can't extrapolate from the concrete to the symbolic and who haven't got the mental faculty to transcend the specific and see the universal.
What she is actually saying in this speech is that conservatism is massively out of step with society, but she is failing to realise that to survive, conservatusm needs to radically change to get in step. Thatcher realised this after the winter of discontent. Blair realised it after 20 years of Thatcherism, and Statmer realises it now. Sunak hasn't realised it and unless his succesor does there will not be another Consrvative government for 15 to 20 years.
The Conservative party are in league with the Labour party and merely agree (in their Westminster theatrical club) to interchange power between them - “you wear the red jersey and we’ll wear the blue - and we’ll fake a situation where we actually are involved in anything more than taking backhanders” … payment and marching orders from international powers hellbent on destroying the last vestiges of democracy and implementing global tyranny under a few corporations… Davos and the Bildebergers - the .00001% who already control everything we see and hear and think. Revolution or change is now completely impossible as (just as with the UK, the EU, Canada - and all the Commonwealth - “Dominion” has been internationally secured (as Trump and Putin and all other dreamers will soon discover). It is too late. BUT, mercifully, Christ will pay these “leaders” back in a day of absolute justice which is an infinitely more important matter, as Eternity is going to be a very long time! So, thank the Lord that the judgement of these overlords is coming and it will be severe. What great news this is!!
No, she is saying that society is being shaped by people that do not have any interest in it other than to promote their own self-interests. Note the bit about being either oppressed or privileged. Starmer realises nothing other than what the latest survey from within Islington tells him, that is why he takes the knee, thinks women can have a penis and can't come up with a single policy of his own that he won;t back down on or reverse.
In the U.S., especially, THE PROBLEM WITH THE SCHOOLS STARTS IN THE COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES and TEACHER UNIONS, WHICH HAVE GOTTEN AN IRON-FISTED GRIP ON THE ("EDUCATION") INDOCTRINATION OF TEACHERS AT ALL LEVELS OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION. Teachers should be people who are trained and educated FIRST in some field of skill other than teaching, THEN vetted and trained in how to teach and mentor students. Too many (most) of our teachers today, HAVE NO REAL-WORLD, PRACTICAL SKILLS in any other field of study or endeavor, but are the product of the "progressive" (Marxist/Communist Ideology) indoctrination being pumped into their young skulls full of mush at the College or University level.
You can not teach children to take responsibility if you are not willing to take it yourself. Katherine reinforced that. Hand-wringing is not an option. Time to take action and shape the future. She is inspirational.
@@vinniemmmm We need to wake people up to reality. Watching GB news, listening to Jordan Peterson, Douglas Murray and others gives people an alternative view to the mainstream media pushing the woke view point. I am speaking to people and challenging complacency. People are waking up as alternative media and views are flourishing. Guide others is the way. Politicians being ridiculed for saying women can have a Penis is a win.. others are coming if we give others courage not to be like sheep for an easy life. Thank you.
I didn’t hear any coherent message in that, just cartoonish ramblings about “woke this, leftist that”. Perhaps a good example for her students of how not to do a speech 😂
@@royjacobs1204 I would be keen to, I am actually interested in how her methodology improves outcomes in her school. But I would have liked to have heard more about this in this speech, which was lacking in substance imo.
British education was deliberately destroyed: no school (even the best private ones) teaches chronological history, classical authors, Latin and Greek (the roots of our civilisation), English grammar; present standards are incredibly low compared to 70 years ago (allegedly because they do not want certain people to be "offended"), I even came across graduates who have no idea how to use the apostrophe.
