David Dyer I’d say polished, rather than learned. There had to be a basis for her accent, which there probably was seen as she came fron New England. You wouldn’t have got anyone from, say, Texas talking like that, learned or otherwise.
@@direfranchement It is a classic old money New England accent. She is simply being true to herself - the daughter of a wealthy New England family who had a privileged "Ivy League" education. She had no need of elocution lessons...
Her forceful honesty is remarkable! Poor Morley is trying to say how laudable old age is and she rightly points out how the elderly are dumped into homes. She is one person who had the blessings of a strong family and wealth, able to avoid that anonymous death faced by many.
Yes Katharine Hepburn belongs to a time where the ART OF BEAUTY was important. The films were beautifully done with incredible balanced artistic scripts.
I could listen to her speak all day. An amazing person brimming with wonderful stories. Besides, she has a wonderful, sparkling New England accent, a joy to hear.
She is too too right about how older people when seen as a bother are just put into a nursing home and for the most part forgotten about and that is indeed a sad sad thing to say about how our society is being now.....
Eh, in my both views are right to some degree, and yet both are too extreme in either direction: some sort of humbly withdrawn "passing of the torch" but yet still worthwhile/deserved involvement approach of [and appreciation for] the elderly is ideal - not only for just them, but for everyone of all ages in society. 👌🏼
In my culture it would be shameful to put your elders in nursing homes I am quite young and would never in a million years think about putting my parents in some facility if I can prevent it however I hate being a bother to anyone in my old age but maybe my mind might change as I grow up.
Katharine Hepburn was always so candid and honest; I always admired her, along with Bette Davis and Elizabeth Taylor, and the reasons why these three actresses were among my favorites had to do not only with their remarkable talents, but their forthrightness...they said what they wanted to say, and if somebody didn't like it, too damn bad!!! I love it!!!
She looks amazing, I believe she aged quite well and her outgoing athletic look about life is refreshing for an actress. She was a tough one and I doubt anyone could compare to her today. I love that she didn't really go along with the "Glamour Girl" look during the studio system era and that she did her own thing. She's a great ideal for an independent woman.
Omg, she's right on about the aged and movies! But you notice he changes the subject, no one wants to talk about what happens to old people but I'm sure he found out to a certain degree. If she ever saw the movies today shed drop dead on the spot!
Candid, indeed, but also very intelligent and wise. No wonder she bent Hollywood to her will. I just watched ''The Philadelphia Story'' and it takes less than 5 minutes to see what a great actress she was. R.I.P. Katharine Hepburn
It is comforting to know that Kate Hepburn and I have one thing in common- we both feel like if we're not careful the world will find out we are a bore. Amazing to think that even a legend has the same insecurities as mere mortals. What a fascinating person she was... just by being herself.
There was a woman I worked for as a landscaper, whose voice completely represented this incredible woman... she said to me in Katharine's trembling voice, you must get out of that tree..
There are 2 legends for me... the 2 Hepburns... Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn... Both were a class in their own and above the rest... Truly inspirational ladies... Such a blessing that we had them!
I don't think any actor/actress today could be as honest, direct, and frank as Katherine is here. And although this fear of being honest could be because of the increasing lack of privacy experienced by said actors/actresses, or the much faster rate at which statements they make are spread and criticized today, I'd love to watch an interview with an actress in which she has the courage to speak her mind and say something like "Aging is horrible, just kills us when it's time".
Lion's Light the closest that exists today I think is Kate Mulgrew except she hates being compared to anyone especially because people have compared her all her life to Katherine Hepburn
@@Dancestar1981 Ah, the indomitable and admirable 👩✈️Captain Katharine Janeway! (the 👌🏼best of the Star Trek captains in my opinion). Yes, I completely agree - Kate Mulgrew is the best example of this type of well-spoken, strong, and intuitive character/person.
Katharine Hepburn, was a FAB Actress or I'd rather say THE ACTRESS. Her movies are all full of meaning, and they are a delight to watch. I love her, and her acting. Katharine the most GREAT!
I could honestly watch her interviews all the livelong day💖💕💞😊...what wisdom and compassion, and just friendliness...Love Kate and wonder if she and Bette Davis were friends.
Utterly Magnificent. I love her attitude about just everything. Her humility and honesty is very refreshing. I think she's inargueably, one of the most iconic figures in cinema.
@Cassie K It's very much a competition, it's a competition vying for roles, it's a competition trying to be the "it" girl in Hollywood. If it wasn't, they should not be having the Oscars, the Emmy's, and the Tony's. Just saying!
@@polyprinz there is no competition between Hepburn and streep, Hepburn is from a generation before streep she is like 30 years older than streep so I don't understand where the competition comes from? Different generations, all you can be is the best of your time and that applies to any profession not just acting,
well remember back then everyone was not walking on eggshells due to the speech police. Kate Hepburn or not, she would not get away with it today. Luv her!
Honest, direct, humble, and strong! She is the only star who dont sugar coat her personnality. What you see it what you get. She did not take too seriously this legend statut and was a real human being.
She's an amazing actress. Always love her movies. What I admire about her, she's not Hollywood. She also does Broadway. I like the fact she does her own housework and gardening.
The last time I saw her I was a child, and I always loved her and her movies. Now in the middle of my life, I see how unbelievably fabulous of a person she really was, and how much I wish she was around now. ❤❤❤
What a brilliant woman. I think it says something that her female peers, that is to say, other actresses, women like Lauren Bacall, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Vivien Leigh, judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Holliday, Tallulah Bankhead are all on record as absolutely adoring her. Find me another actress who was so universally admired by her peers as this one was. That says something about her character right there.
Everything she is saying is nothing but the truth that nobody wants to hear. Everyone is so politically correct nowadays for fear of offending anyone. I love how people were back in the day, so raw and honest.
Watch Mahalia Jackson interviews! Another real one, classic, original, rare. I feel so lost in the world of vapid people. I love connecting to these old ladies that laid the foundation.
Wow. I just came here to show someone how she sounds compared to snl's Wiig. I can say, I am now more impressed by this Legend. I was unaware how opinionated and how stealthy she was. She doesn't need to cuss to get her mind across. Class and strength......…..this is K. Hepburn.
A true legend to the end. Always admired her honesty. She certainly WAS NOT a bullshitter! (Old Australian saying). Strong woman who wasn't afraid to voice her opinions and lived life her own way. Similar to the great Lauren Bacall. Women of real substance!
She was THE actress of the 20'th century. Unlike most others her career spanned over 50 years and she remained tremendously respected throughout her life. Does anybody know if there's some truth in the rumor that she thought that Meryl Streep is nowhere near one of the all time great actresses?
what a fearless lady. And I mean "lady" in the true sense. Intellectual, beautiful, free and combative. None were her equal in her day and the torch is passed to whom? A challenge to all human beings: Katherine Hepburn! Listen to the audio content only of this recording and I challenge anyone to guess her age. She sounds like she's in her 30s, in spirit.
Hepburn was exaclty right about what we in the US did and still do to our elderly by thowing them into a nursing home. My sister did this to my Mother and I could not bare to have her there alone. So for 475 days I was with my Mom (except sleeping) every single day until she died. Very pitiful to see all the lonely dying souls. I only wonder what fate awaits me. Oh well I don't have any children,,,,,but maybe a neighbor will throw me into one should I live that long.
There's a video on youtube where the interviewer talks about this interview. In the video he says he did not like his interview with Katharine Hepburn because he was intimidated by her. I'm glad he did it though, there are not many interviews of her's :)
My sweet Lord Kate, I feel like a bore as well...and I have zero Academy Awards! She's one of the most amazing women of her time....would probably cringe at the phrase "role model" by saying I'm me, what choice did I have...? I always wished her and Bette could have been in a film together...but I don't think any novelist, playwright, or screenwriter could have written it...!!!
She's 💯 right. I wouldn't have thought so but now that I'm old, wow, this is the truth. She was a renegade for her time. Or any time, really. I wish I had half her energy & confidence. And that CT. accent, which is imminently listenable.
