Here's Kat's actual performance of 'Never Enough' that she performed at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN in NYC. How do you think she did?! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YgkT9hhUpvY.html
She shows why she's got superior gifts. She retained basically the bulk of that coaching, and used it in that performance. Which is pretty astounding... the tone was round and not "thin" or spread, like Kat was complaining in the lesson. Round and big and vibrant. It's exceptional.
She’s never sounded better. And that last belt at 2:50 of that video is incredible. I find it curious that Natalie told her to sing the third “me” as “meee” but Kat sang it as “meeehhhh”.
Me too. Meanwhile I'm just wandering around my house with my mediocre voice singing "Sing. Sing a song. Don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing.Sing a song"; whilst trying to convince myself that lyrics are true and Sesame Street didn't lie to me.
It‘s really cool to see someone like Katharine in a voice lesson. Like her voice is always so perfect it’s good to see her mess up a little. It just shows that no matter how good you are you need to keep training
No its not, thats for sure! It takes lots of practice and the voice is really a "double reed" instrument with the vocal chords and folds becoming the instrument reed. and sinuses, and the chest cavity the resonators. It also means controlling sibilance and "plosive p's. And seamlessly moving through your vocal registers. All without strain or you can get vocal fold nodules. And you have to learn to not only do all of that but do it with appropriate emotion. And of course you have to be able to tell an Ab from an A# You have to work at it constantly - and discipline in diet, activities including proper sleep and physical strength. Having a vocal coach is very important BUT the coach has to attuned to the type of music you intend to sing. An operatic vocal coach could do more harm than good for a pop singer and certainly vice versa. Listen to Sarah Brightman in Phantom (of the Opera) or Idina Menzel singing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.... masters at work.
Damiana Cole singing since child doesn’t mean you know everything. Obviously, i get the joke because she can hit higher than that, but you seem to confuse big note and high note.
It’s crazy how she is on Broadway and is still perfecting the songs, I think she is a phenomenal performer which really helps her secure these parts, she is aware that she is not the best singer but she is always improving
Unfortunately that is not proper technique. She is completely singing in chest voice and pushing the air forcefully past her vocal chords. Any classically trained soprano can sing that high and way higher by using head voice which sounds much prettier.
Amy Shannon she’s using mix...🙄 and guess what, there are different vocal styles. You can’t compare this style of singing to a classical soprano! Different tools, different result. How boring would music be if everything was just sung in head voice!
@@amyshannon8718 it’s proper belting technique. By your logic, no musical theater performers sing in proper technique cause 99% of material is belted lol
its hard work. natural talent is not enough . you must constantly keep training, learning. work work work. great job ladies, saw Kat in waitress. she slayed. also msg performance
alvin medina sometimes it can be enough. Laura Osnes for example said that since she is on broadway she never took a singing lesson and her singing especially her belts and long notes are out of this world.
@@mariadoll5099 Hi that may be true for laura. I have heard from Stephanie j block Celine dion n countless others that continued lessons are crucial. I agree with that. thanks
Kate Clarke she’d have had a lot of coaching for shows she’s done also having no formal training doesn’t have to equal not working hard. I’m sure Laura Osnes works incredibly hard on her voice
@@TheAshumms never said not having formal training means not working hard . it often means that you work harder. especially as you compete with train folks . please read before you comment.
How ironic, both of them were in American Idol. Katharine was a runner up while Natalie was eliminated after the group performance. But look who's teaching who. Either ways, both of them are great singers in their own respective ways xoxo
Chester Zulueta being a teacher is a diff set of skills then a vocalist. Obv someone can be both but its very clear that natalies amazing ear is made for this job!! Love seeing two people to amazing at the respective crafts work together is so amazing!
Being a teacher is a different set of skills. Being able to communicate and make concepts that can be so abstract easy to perform while relating to your student is an art in itself. I’m sure Kat has some tricks that she could teach Natalie too. Being an artist is collaborating
Coz it shows singing isn’t just about the technique. Natalie has the technique and range, but not the tone, soul or any unique character to her voice/style.
Love Kat's humility in getting help from Natalie! 😍 I've followed Kat since she was on Idol in 2005 and have always loved her tone. Her belting used to get so high-larynxed, nasal, and thin in her mid-upper range, though, so I am happy to see how much she has improved since then.
Interesting. She's working on opening her vowels on higher notes. Great! She's doing exactly what she should be doing, cause she naturally has a high voice. It's good that she's realizing she needs to make her voice rounder on open vowels when she's belting high. 🙂
Holy wow! I'm exhausted. I'm not a singer, sadly not even in the shower. You're welcome. I never knew how much effort went into singing. I just assumed people like Katherine just sing it perfectly, naturally without being taught all these intricate little things. So impressive and interesting. I could listen to both of them all day long. Thanks for pulling back the curtain. 💕
Kat is phenomenal but I also love the fact that we see she still struggles/learns better ways to project her voice even though she’s been successful on Broadway.
Two of my favorites together!! This brings me so much joy. When Kat gets that speech mix in the pocket on Never Enough she reminds me of the recording Kelly Clarkson did. Sounds so so good.
I love this. She is so freaking talented and when you see her perform it just feels so easy for her. I love to see all this attention to detail and the struggle and all that. I hear a lot of this kind of stuff in my own voice lessons (although I'm .0001% as talented) which makes me feel better.
What you’re doing is amazing. I’ve always sung in the washroom and privately in the shower, but through your videos I’ve had the confidence to sing live and it’s been amazing. I’m shook, seriously.
I so appreciate Natalie Weiss's bravery in showing things down the octave! That takes so much courage as a teacher. And thank you both for showing the learning process !!! It shows that we always are growing. Super appreciate this video!!!
Nataalllliiee yaaaaasss 😭😭😭 them working together is everything we needed. If there are any of you who don’t know who Natalie is, do yourselves a favor and look up her cover of She Used To Be Mine.
It's amazing how something that sounds so beautiful and easy takes so much practice and work. Good job Kat. Your teachers voice is also so very amazing. Nice.
This video is such a joy to watch! Such incredible coaching and beautifully taken on board. Inspiration for my own performing and coaching work. Thank you for posting!
Loved this so much! I have started back to vocal coaching, though I have nothing I working towards. Seeing Katharine still working those vocal exercises gives me hope that there is always opportunity for improvement.
Two of the best singers in the business and also Natalie is the best vocal coach ever .and as everybody can see even pro singers are always working on their voices. Thx for that video I couldn’t get “enough” of it ! Please make another video together!
Wow Natalie has an amazing voice would love to hear more. I love Katherine been a fan and follower for years love her voice we need to hear and see more of her
Katherine one of our biggest GIFTs ever😭😭😭😭, jesus christ, one of the most unique voices ever, so underrated. In the other hand this is a great vocal teacher.😍
Wow being so awesome and still striving for more it just shows how much dedication and talent and hard work Kat is doing and has done and how inspirational she is.
Anyone that is a singer needs to listen to this! Such good information for even the accomplished singer! Love seeing Kat continuously improve herself and her craft! I watched her performance of Never Enough before seeing this and now understand why she sounded sooooo good!
So want her to be my vocal coach!! She’s educational and funny at the same time.. definitely looks like she makes you feel comfortable Af! And still teaches you how to do the damn thing! 🙌🏼😁
