Katherine Jenkins - Love never dies - With Andrew Lloyd Webber at the piano - From his new musical "Love never dies" - A sequel to "The Phantom of the opera" - With the Olympic ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean
Katherine sings this in a much more operatic tone (not musical theater), but it still works since ALW loves to write musicals just on the borderline of those two genres! Sierra and Katherine's versions are different enough, and I adore both.
I think Katherine gives this song a whole new tone, the fact being her voice is a lot more mature and deeper, although I agree, it doesn't sound like a musical theatre song with her singing- but I think people should still be able to appreciate the different qualities she brings to this. Don't get me wrong though, Sierra is my absolute favourite singer and I think she has the voice of angels- nothing can compare!
I wish her vibrato wasn't so fast and tight but I love her. Katherine is such a nice person in addition to being one of the most beautiful women in the world. She deserves all the good things that are happening to her now.
For me K.J. is the best singer on earth. There is something in her voice, she touchs my soul. Day by day I listen to her songs. Most I love her album Patinum Collelection and Guiding Light
The best rendition made of this wonderful song - so far. Katherine was at her best! I feel so young and so much in love. Thank you for sharing this piece with us.
Katherine through this song introduced my to Sierra. I would probably never have found Sierra without katherine as I don't sit on youtube all day looking for singers. Now Sierra is my favourite soprano and Katherine is still my favourite mezzo!!
+G. Rism Agreed - Sierra's voice is much more of a thin / "petite" / innocent voice. Well suited to Christine in POTO, but I don't think it's quite suited to the 10y older & more experienced Christine in LND - Christine really went through a lot, and should not still be sounding so innocent. But Katherine's voice just isn't Soprano - it's not quite high enough for Christine. My fav is Anna O'Byrne (Australian/DVD version of LND) - She still has the high notes that Sierra has, but her sound is not quite as thin. (Don't get me wrong, Sierra is still an *amazing* POTO Christine.)
Who knows when love begins? Who knows what makes it start? One day it's simply there, Alive inside in your heart. It slips into your thoughts, It infiltrates your soul, It takes you by surprise, Then seizes full control. Try to deny it, And try to protest, But love won't let you go, Once you've been possessed. Love never dies. Love never falters. Once it has spoken, Love is yours. Love never fades. Love never alters. Hearts may get broken, Love endures... Hearts may get broken, Love endures. And soon as you submit, Surrender flesh and bone, That love takes on a life much bigger than your own. It uses you at whim and drives you to despair. And forces you to feel more joy than you can bear. Love gives you pleasure, And love brings you pain! And yet, when both are gone, Love will still remain. Once it has spoken, Love is yours. Love never dies, Love never alters, Hearts may get broken, Love endures... Hearts may get broken. Love never dies! Love will continue! Love keeps on beating when you're gone! Love never dies once it is in you! Life may be fleeting, Love lives on... Life may be fleeting, Love lives on.
You realise that you can't compare them right? Katherine is a powerful mezzo soprano whereas Sierra is an ethereal soprano. They're both perfect for what they are, but they have different ranges and their performances are different Sierra's an actress and Katherine's a singer.
I think while Katherine wouldn't be able to sing the role of Christine, this sounds great. I would mind the modifications they made to make this song singable for a mezzo if this was in the show- but this is a concert. It doesn't matter she wouldn't make a good Christine, because that's not what she's trying to accomplish. This is not meant to be Christine. It's just Katherine. And the song is not part of the musical here, it's simply a song. A cover if you want. And I love it :)
I personally think her voice suits the song very well- she's a bit too powerful (especially in the lower range) to be a really believable Christine, but she has a really smooth voice, if you know what I mean (just listen to the "Love NEEEEver dies", how smooth the transition is). Sierra is my favourite singer, but Katherine does this song justice, she is a beautiful mezzo :)
Katherine's voice is fantastic, but unfortunately I feel it wasn't designed for songs like this, though she still sings it very well. I think the best example of her voice is in "I could have danced all night"
+AngelOfMusic1202 Also, Christine just kinda *has* to ba a soprano - Katherine is a Mezzo Soprano - absolutely beautiful voice, but just not Christine. Katherine is more the type of voice that Fantine is in Les Mis.
im not making any smart comments dear friend, everyone is free to watch this video if you dont like it u can just ignore it and dont click it, instead of wirtting all those crap about her. and at the end of the day i bet none of all of u is as good as her when it comes to vocals so just sit down like i said before.
Great performance. The ice skaters are a kind of mildly irritating distraction as they go through their Kama Sutra poses. You don't really need anything extra for this piece.
+Georgia Griffiths Ah... The ice skating makes a bit more sense now... Still, I agree with Mark & Thor - The skaters didn't add to the performance. (Though I must say, Katherine has a bit of an annoying way of shaking her head kinda continuously while singing - usually you only see that in inexperienced singers who are trying to seem more emotional. Seeing someone with such an absolutely *amazing* voice do that is rather perplexing.)
I wonder what would have happened if one of the skaters had fallen and messed up tremendously. Would they stopped the performance or carried on for the sake of being a professional.
She brings a different passion to the song. Sierra did great but the thickness of Katherine's voice seemed to add something that was missing before. BTW what's up with the ice skating?
Hi GracesCorner ! The ice skating is out there. I guess they have to produce some sort of spectacle when working with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Thanks for leaving a comment! If you're interested in perusing musical theater, film acting, or even commercials; take a look at my blog theactorsmind247.blogspot.com/
***** thank you ..I am a professional. performer... That is what I do for a living.. seriously. But I will check out your blog.. my website is justus4.com I am the Blonde. Nice to meet another pro.. Blessings. .
So true, Sierra and Katherine can't be compared. And perhaps for this performance Katherine was fitting. But truly, I believe that Kathy is very wrong for this song. While, obviously, POTO and LND are "opera shows", it is still classified as musical and for this Katherine is simply a little out of place. But no doubt an amazing voice and a beautiful performance!
Just had a listen to Sierra Boggess' version, whilst well done, I really don't see how one can rate it better than Katherine's version. Sierra talks her way through most of the song - only singing the chorus in a rather weak breathy high soprano. But hey , what ever makes you happy.
saying that Sierra's an actress and Kath is a singer is lol. Sierra's voice is amazing, the way she can transition from chest to headvoice is really technically refined. Katherine is stuck in headvoice the whole song, and is less suited for this. Both are great overall though.
Sierra sings sharper. I saw in the play last week. Sierra sings as Christian. Katherine is good but she to convey the meaning of this song as usual but not as Christian. Christian, i think she changes the key, it can't build the feeling. Another thing, Sierra building the feeling by choosing the different power in the last 3 chorus. That make the feeling up and up higher and higher till end of the song.
omg I like Katherine Jenkins singing this until the end when she murders the ending. Sierra and her are completely different like come on saying ones better than the other. I personally find Sierra a much more impressive singer and actress but this is still descent i didnt like how they completely changed the range for katherine why change a song for one person when you can find someone else to sing it the original way even more amazing?
1. I don't think her range fit the song, 2.I don't think her vibrato was meant for this type of song, 3.I Like Sierra better but only because her role in Little Mermaid has made me obbsessed (I know I spelled it wrong) with her, 4. I'm not saying Katherines a bad singing I just don't like her in this song, and finally 5. I can't count how many times it looked like the skaters were going to run into her!
Why is there ice skating in this performance? We have a wonderful singer performing a beautiful song. Isn't that enough? The skaters are very good. But it just doesn't fit. Did the producers think we were going to be bored watching Katherine Jenkins perform?
the most interseting thing about this performance is torvel and dean, watching catherine eatinf a microphone is usual!!!! sorry love but your looks got u where u are!!!
I think most people would not know the key change happened. Having been a musician for many years I heard the change but it really didn't bother me. What does bother me is her terrible opera voice. Cinema Paradiso is a similar song and she sings it great. This one not so much...
