Theme tune to the TV series with words added and star Kathleen Harrison putting some speaking in to tie in with the series Mrs Thursday. Perhaps she couldn't sing? But she was a great actress.
This is a photograph of my husband, Ron Blanchard, who sadly died last year, with Kathleen Harrison. He was the Senior Floor Manager on the ATV production of "Mrs. Thursday". They all went on location in 1967 on the Union Castle Lines ship, Reina Del Mar, along with Hugh Manning who played her butler. They filmed in Casablanca and Madeira and on the ship itself of course. Listening to theme tune and song brings back many happy memories. I have a lot of slides which Ron took on the trip and several letters written from Kathleen to him and myself. She was a true star both on television and radio.
My grandad wrote this music, Wilf Edwards. Lovely to hear this as never had a recording of it and he died in 1979. Can't stop listening to it now! Thanks for sharing it! I wonder what he would think of his music being available for anyone to listen to!
I remember watching the series when it first aired, with Episode 1, in (I think!) 1966. I found a copy of this single, in pristine condition, in a second hand record shop about ten years later. I still have it. I also have the sheet music of this theme, which includes the lyrics. It was published in a sheet music album, published by Robbins Music Corporation, entitled 'Top TV Themes' in 1966. The three series have been released on DVD and are still available.
Thanks for posting this. I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch the show and the theme is etched in my mind. I have looked before. This is the first time I have heard the theme in - well far too many years. I am sure the TV series theme didn't have lyrics and was not sung. Many thanks as I didn't think there was a record released. Thanks!
I was a Mrs. Monday Tues Wed Thursday and Friday. Worked for the same families for many many years. watched their kids grow up and go to college.loved this show
There were 38 episodes. Series 1 ran 15/03/1966 to 07/06/1966 (13 episodes), Series 2 ran 27/12/1966 to 20/03/1967 (13 episodes), and Series 3 ran 05/10/1967 to 22/12/1967 (12 episodes). In the London area (Associated Rediffusion), it went out at 20:00-20:55 for Series 1 & 2 and 21:00-21:55 for Series 3. Of the 38 episodes, only 2 are lost from the archives but 8 have burnt-in subtitles as retrieved from a foreign archive.
I loved Kathleen H as Mrs Thursday and of course Ma Hugget with the wonderful Jack Warner. I also remember that theme tune. I understand the reason she stopped playing Mrs T was due to the fame that surrounded it, she could not go anywhere without being noticed, I think she was over 100 when she passed away. Wonderful actress, may God bless her and Jack. I worked at ATV studios with the Crossroads team, and she once said that she did not think that she would have the discipline to appear in a soap, 5 days a week. Well one could hardly say Crossroads had much discipline, but Kathleen, I am sure you would have been perfect in the role that was offered to you, the role of 'Amy Turtell '
Just reading your notes here I thought they had all gone except for on Kathleen Harrison was one of the wonderful voices I grew up with. long before the TV series she was a wireless favourite. Can one still find Mrs Thursday anywhere?
I didnt realise there were 3 series. I remember one where she went on a Cruise. Presumably to open up the show to new characters. Did it go out about 9pm? I know I was alloed to stay up late and I can remember being tired the next day but thinking it was worth it! lol
+Margaret Green Of 38 episodes made across 3 series all episodes are known to survive now, but two episodes from Series 3 survive with burnt-in subtitles as recovered from a foreign TV station. Series 1 & 2 are already available on DVD from an archive TV & film company called Network, I expect the third series will follow eventually. networkonair.com/shop/1684-mrs-thursday-the-complete-series-1-5027626380946.html & networkonair.com/shop/1743-mrs-thursday-the-complete-series-2-5027626394240.html
