What We do on stage is not what we necessarily do on the dance floor. People love to see a show, they love to get entertain and we love to make their money worth a great show. :) thank you for the feed back.
See that is why I don't allow comments on any of the performances I upload to youtube, because people always have something to say. Just appreciate the dance itself! Love you Kathy, your still my inspiration! :)
OMG Kathy your amazing dancer I recently watched you episode on MTV true life. You are great dancer I don't know why MTV didn't show the whole thing if it was great:)
ok guys, please lets not be negative and disrespectful no anyone. peace and love. This video is not meant to be Dominican Style, if you read the tittle and details of video it says showcase. I love Dominican style and any other style people have to express music. thank u :)
I respect your opinion and appreciate it but if you read details on this video, it clearly says showcase bachata competition not social dance on stage. People pay to see a show and it wasn't a Dominican or simple basic bachata competition. :) of course if rules said strictly bachata then we would have done it more basic.
Its not about being negative or DR Kathy we all love your dancing. Its about being strong enough to say something about what needs to happen even when its not popular. Thats the essence of loving something. The way Salsa and Bachata is now as a whole is disappointing. Besides some bright spots here and there its no where close to having the soul of where it came from. If I do headspins to ballet music it doent make me a trained ballet dancer.
It's called a PER-FOR-MANCE. The object and nature of said performance is to put on a show. If i wanted to watch DR bachata I'd go to my tias house for primas baby shower and watch abuelita y su viejo bailar.
I really like Kathy and respect her as a dancer. But only in LA would almost all of the performances at the congress be called Bachata. This isnt even modern style let alone DR. Something drastic needs to change in our scene. When street styles that are based on such a large number of people and such a beautiful culture are stripped of all of their roots and performed in ice skating suits like ballroom, how is it no one is emotionally outraged?
Bachata new competions are let me down more and more everyday coz of the lack of bachata basic steps in their performance, if you see Ataca y la Alemana or Frank Santos, you can see how perfectly can fix bachata basic steps and performance without the necessity of concentrating all the song on interpretation movements. New concept of bachata its just crappy.
I hope thats not all you have. Because that right there is the exact lack of innovation and sight that has things the way they are. At some point someone with talent and vision has to step up and destroy the old if we are ever going to make the big step. And others have to choose the true love of the form over over-sensitive conformity and cheerleading.
