My Cat Died. 

Anyone who says, "it's just a cat," or "it's just a dog" has never experienced the love of an animal. There is nothing like it. We had to put our dog to sleep a year ago. I still grieve. They are family.

It's a pure connection built on love, unquestionable trust, and beautiful spiritual intersections. I’m sorry for all of you who have recently lost a dear pet. I said goodbye to my 20 year old cat today and miss her so much, the pain is almost unbearable. I am dealing with guilt feelings about complaining about the litter messes and her meowing at the crack of dawn, and now wish she were still here.

The loss of a pet is more than just the loss of a family member it's the loss of a family member who never harmed you in any wa and somehow supported you in every way. The problem is, they are so perfect, unlike people, hence, the unbelievable pain. Anyhow, the Lord promises us our hearts desire, and mine is to meet my hairy friends who are now in a better place, once again.

I have grieved more deeply for some of my pets than I ever felt for any human. The bond, the understanding, two souls as one really. The loss left a deep hole in my heart.

I’m an active duty Air Force officer and, like your cat, mine has lived in about a dozen different houses and transcended oceans and been with me my entire adult life. He has stopped eating and I think I’m going to have to make a very hard decision soon. I found out the news a day and half ago and was devastated, crying my eyes out on the way home from the vet I could barely see the road. When my Dad died I took his cat Sami home with me, he crawled into my washing basket to sleep on my Dad's cardi I had been wearing. His eyes were red and sore, his grief was palpable. Then he comforted me with a swiping claw to my face in the middle of the night for me to cuddle him. My Tomcat Daisyboy would hold and cuddle him, Sami only had 3 legs it made him somewhat more co-dependant , he was like a Koala , a tad needy. When he passed away I held his paw, he gave me something precious, he shared My Dad's love of him, with me.

I cried for a whole evening when my dog died. Like not just tears on and off, but sobbing snotty nosed howling for hours. I still dream about him often, which gives some form of contact, whatever that means

I lost my cat 2 months ago, but the pain of losing her, and the daily grief since her death is so deep, powerful and unimaginable, it hurts, like nothing I felt before, it is far more than the pain of separating from my husband of 39 years! My cat was my best friend, she loved me unconditionally, and we ‘chatted’ often while hugging each other! She was beautiful and she never left me, even when sick, and she was deaths door! She actually waited for the whole family to arrive in the hospital, just to say goodbye to us individually, before she took permission to leave us!It the most awful thing, gut wrenching,head throbbing, screaming pain! I nursed her at home until the last day, setting up my mini nursing care, with her sleeping on my bed, and carrying her to her litter, hand feeding her! My world just went blank after she died! It’s taking much strength to cope with each day without her!

I lost my cat yesterday, he was the goodest boy I ever knew, I didn't get to be with him in his last moments because I figured I would see him again when I went to get him back from the vet's. I knew his chance of survival was very little and his condition was very bad but I didn't think it would happen and I wouldn't even seen him in the morning, I thought id see him again in the morning. I didn't and it litterarly broke me the shock sent me into hyperventilation and I couldn't stop crying for hours even now talking about him makes me cry and I figure it'll take me so long to ever recover. My baby was the goodest boy and very cuddly and in just 2 days he was a totally different cat, so weak, he had a similar stituation where his organs started to shut down on him. I have just lost my cat today. In all my life I have never felt emotions like what I’m feeling now. I feel like someone is drilling a hole through my gut. I lost my 20 yr old cat Ella on Monday. She was the most beautiful little girl, with the sweetest nature. I really miss her being around. The house feels very empty. Lost my cat today from heart failure and a blood clot. Only 6 years old, no symptoms to indicate anything wrong, a sudden paralysis of his back legs and rapid breathing. My other cat came to him licked and caressed him. I took him to the vet and nothing could be done except euthanasia. I looked him in the eyes and caressed him told him I loved him and he slipped away. Everything you said and more. My heart aches. I get it. The connection is real and death is numbing.

I lost my cat two days ago due to lung cancer. I had to put him to sleep because watching him in pain was unbearable. Going through various therapy procedures , vet checks for more than two weeks and sleepless nights brought me to exhaustion. There is a deep trauma while observing your best friend slowly dying and being unable to help. A feeling of helplessness and despair that is eating me alive. Observing the comment section, I have noticed that many cat owners share similar feelings, which is helping me a lot to go through my sadness. It is very interesting to mention that I did not know how much I loved and cared for him before he passed away. Going back from work straight home to feed him or leaving earlier from night parties was a normal thing to do. Not mentioning planning my trips so I would not have to leave him too long at cats’ hotel although sometimes I had to. The strange thing is that I feel like I could do more for him. Maybe I have this feeling because I truly cared and loved him. Dear Devon, my love, my friend, my angel rest in peace. I could never imagine that losing him will be so hard.

I lost my best friend 2 months ago and truthfully, I haven’t found the days to be getting any easier. I was 3 when I got him and held him as he crossed the rainbow bridge as a 20 y/o. This has definitely been the hardest loss and most difficult thing I’ve experienced. That cat was more than a pet to me. As odd as this sounds, I believe he was my angel, the one to watch me grow from a toddler to an adult, my fluffy bestest friend. My cat Steve 10 years was just diagnosed with cancer with leukemia. They gave him 4 months with the option of euthanasia to ease his suffering. I am beside myself I have not stopped crying and never experienced this much pain besides the passing of my dog in 2013. I just lost my cat today. He was beautiful. My memories of him are very alive, I keep seeing his face and feeling that pang of pain all over again. I've cried so much my head hurts. Lost mine 2 months ago... After going missing the 1st day I already knew something happened to him. Didn't find him until 3 days later in a vet, it was hit by a car and some neighbours took him to the vet. The sound of my crying after I hung the call and breaking down on the floor was as shocking for me as it was for you. The unconditional love and the soul to soul connection is what makes them so special, and I believe that precisely due to the lack of language, we have to communicate and connect the other only way we can, with our hearts and souls. I've probably watched this video 15 times by now and will probably watch it more because it's helping.......I have to put my 15 year old cat Oscar down tomorrow morning. The death of my dogs was much worse for me than the death of my father. animals have been much better to me than humans so it’s all relative.

I was so distraught over the loss of my Smudge that I had to have two weeks off work. The loss of a beloved animal is so fucken traumatizing. I had to say goodbye to my baby Boots late Saturday night. Shes been my best friend for 18yrs, helped me thru many hardships. Waited for my return home every night & watched tv with me. Woke me in AM for breakfast. Followed me to bathroom to see what I was up to. We had a set routine. I miss her head bops & licking my face, the feeling of her fur when I gave her kisses, the pitter patter of her feet on the stairs & her variety of meows as she talked back to me. Diagnosed with "asthma" a yr ago. On steroids since & no further obvious symptoms til now. ER Vet did xray, white on one side. 1 lung not working. Possibly cancer ? Tests wouldve been $5000. He felt it wouldve just prolonged her suffering. I never expected to leave there without her. Feel guilty theres more I shouldve done. The emptiness in my home now is unbearable.

My sweet baby girl Diamond passed away yesterday evening at the age of 14. I was by her side for 36 hours as she passed away in my arms. It was a gift to have been there for her, allowing her to pass peacefully away at home in the arms of her most dearest friend. She's been in my life since I was 17, before college, the kids, the husband, the home, before everything. A piece of me is gone, that youthful, naive spirit has partially transformed into what I hope is a wiser, stronger, and more compassionate human being. This is so eloquent…my cat died yesterday of renal failure as well. I’m devastated, I’m letting myself feel it. I’m empty, it was so sudden. I loved him so much! I found him completely by accident when I was 19 after escaping a troubled home. He was so very sweet and gentle. He meant so much to me. Thankfully I didn’t have to make any hard decisions, though I was prepared to if he was suffering to much or too long, he passed within a couple days of falling severely ill from anemia and kidney failure. I am almost thankful but also guilty I didn’t know of his disease because the burden of having to make treatment decisions and put him through surgeries. He was 11 and a half years old, I took care of him the best I could with what I had feeding him the best quality grain free wet food to support his health

I lost my tuxedo cat Lollipop last week. We had her for over 19 years. I couldn’t make that phone call as she was too far beyond emaciated and dehydrated-I feared it would be torture to find a vein. I kept her comfortable at home - home is where she wanted to be. Less stress. We adopted her from the local SPCA shortly after my beloved grandmother died back in 2003. She gave us so much joy and comfort over the years. I’m so thankful for being to have her for so long. Nevertheless, my heart is shattered and I miss her terribly as much as I still miss my mère 💔Grief is the price we pay for love ❤️

My cat died in my arms 3 hours ago, she had been sick for a while now. I came here to find comfort and found it, thank you for not making me feel alone right now. She is wrapped in a blanket on the couch, my Mrs is in bed and so are the kids, I'm laid on the sofa next to her so I'm here when the kids come down in a couple of hours. I dont know what to do right now, it's early morning after boxing day and nobody is awake to talk to or contact or ask for advice. I've never heard someone put the relationship people have with their animals so beautifully into words...They're more than pets, they're like soulmates. I never understood someone who says, "You can never love your animal as much as a parent loves their child." Bullshit. Unconditional love is unconditional love, it doesn't matter if the recipient of that love can talk or not, or is human or not...I know myself and the majority of animal parents would die for their beloved companion without a second thought, and as Jesus rightly said "Greater love hath no one than this: than to lay down one's life for their friends." My dog has the most pure spirit, no question he is worthy of the greatest love my pitiful human heart can give. The same goes for all animals - I hope everyone realizes there is no shame in giving these creatures all of your love...since they didn't hesitate to give us all of theirs. You gave your cat the love he deserved, and you speak of him with dignity and respect and understanding...You're a good dad. I believe God's greatest mistake was giving dogs and cats such short lives...Then again, a billion years wouldn't be enough either. When a cat transitions, it goes home to spirit. Animals love going home back to spirit. Cats especially love being in spirit. It is why they sleep so much. The sadness is in losing a friend. That sadness takes some time to heal. But why not be happy that your loving animal has graduated and gone back home and is free and healthy again? He will eventually visit you in spirit. You and your friend will always be one.

A year on and and I'm crying like a baby just remembering the day my boy lost his llife.. I still love him. He really was a special cat and He deserved a long happy life. I miss him and the energy he brought to our home. 😭❤️

Just lost my cat who was 16 to cancer. She was the love of my life and I have never felt any pain like it.

I've buried my beloved cat Janis yesterday, and the pain I'm in is beyond words, beyond imagination, beyond understanding. I didn't suspect that the loss of such a tiny little thing could have had such a massive impact in my life, but, since I've learnt about her cancer, I figured that accepting her parting was going to be much harder than I would ever have thought. I don't understand my house without her now; my window where she would spend most of the day watching and chasing the birds; I cannot even look at that window now, I can't hear the birds now. I don't understand my life without her now. I'm grieving beyond belief. I don't want to do anything, but cry and cry and cry. I just miss her so much. She's been my best mate for the last 13 years. It's too sad to let her go. I know I'm saying stupid shit. I can't explain myself better right now. I guess I just want to express that these creatures are more magical and cosmical than what we even realize.

When I was born my parents had this cat already for a year. So I literally grew up with him, we shared bed and cuddles from our parents. He was my brother. My dad, 17ish years later, found two kittens in the rain, and brought them home. So now we have 3 cats, a really old and tired one and two little devils playing all around him. Couples years passed and my brother got really really sick. My mom called the vet, and I remember that afternoon, crying as hell, hugging him, tell him to go away, to run. We buried him, and we buried next to him, in the years, one of the kittens and another one that we got later, they got hit by a car. All the family devastated by that. Last year the last survivor got worse and worse, I was away for work but I could get home and see him for a last hug. He died in my arms the day after, I was in tears, again, for days. While I'm digging his grave, crying, I tell my parents, around me in grief: "This is the first time that I'm not living with a cat." That resonated strongly, so my mom, couple months after, surprised me with a kitten, a female, who was kept not so good by her old owner. Little we knew, shs was pregnant. She gave birth to 4 little kittens in front of my eyes and those of my dog, we were watching curios, frightened and amazed. We gave 3 to a couple of friends and kept one. I'm living with cats, again. And I always will. I don't know if someone's ever gonna read this, but it was good paying tribute to the great relationships I've had, we all have and had, with cats. I'm really sorry for your loss, Russel. A huge hug.

Adding my story to the multitude in these comments. My best friend, Elvis, my gorgeous long haired black moggy was put sleep at home this week, aged 16. I haven’t known life without him since I was 7 years old, I can’t remember it hardly at all. He got me through the death of my lovely grandad and my great auntie. And now I don’t have him to help me through his own death. I feel a loss so visceral. The house is unknown to me without his presence. I need him, he is my spirit friend. I miss him so much. I don’t know what my life will become without him. He had kidney failure and heart disease. My poor gorgeous lovely boy, I love him.

I felt that on a personal level. My sweetheart cat was with me in the hardest time, and in the best of course, but his sudden death left a deep cut in me. It literally felt like the part of me died with my cat. Sending greetings and condolences, to anyone who finds himself in such a situation.

My parents died about 22 yrs ago.i love my parents dearly and I hurt over there passing but I lost my cat I had for ten years in 2021 and that death absolutely tore me down so badly I was in a ball of depression for two weeks.i was able to kinda function daily when my parents died but when my cat died I became a helpless non functioning bag of flesh.im a 60 year old man but I wailed like a child.i lost about ten pounds cause I had no appetite,I just laid in bed in darkness day after day.the only reason I occasionally got out of bed was to shower when I got to the point where I could not stand the smell of my putrid body and I got out of shower and fell right back into bed.if I didn't have to finally go back to work I'm not sure when I would have gotten out of bed.i still have moments at work or walking down the street when I will just burst into tears.she was in my life for ten years,ten of the best years of my life,we had gotten to know each other so well I could just look at her face and knew what she wanted and she she met me at the door every single day when I came home from work.i open the door and she is sitting there waiting.i miss her dearly.

My Sadie girl passed away 20/11/21.. I'm still crying now.. I've never felt this lost, she was my buddy, my little companion.. She was perfect. She was 21yrs old.. And she'd been with me since i got her from a rescue centre in 2005.. 😔 💔😔 I'll never love or hurt like this again

Perhaps no cat has ever received such a numinous stream of consciousness to honour it's life cycle. In fact I wonder if Morrisey is now a Sphynx somewhere, a God Cat. Absolutely beautiful.

...this gives me a memory of when my bipolar self medicating mum, when her dog was let out by a tradesman's mistake of not latching the gate. It destroyed her universe. Sent her into such a grieving that it stuck her in a time period where she never really came back from. I remember that I said...it's just a dog 😓...well I know now it's not just a dog, it was her universe, her best friend, her everything...I get it Russell. The dog represented her greatest love of a being that trusted her, was the most loyal, the most loving...a being that had a higher vibration in this world of confusion, chronic medical madness and rejection from other humans. I have a companion animal now. Her name is princess and she is my world. She is not just a dog...🐕

I said goodbye to my beloved animal companion this morning, Maggie, a tortoiseshell cat who lived for 16 years. She brought so much love and joy into my life and helped me through some very dark times. As an introvert, I don't have many friends, and although I have been preparing for Maggie's departure for a while, it doesn't make the deep sense of loss and aloneness any easier to bear. For me, getting over the loss of an animal companion has been harder than losing a close person. My heart feels so empty, yet I am also filled with joy and gratitude for sharing those years with such an amazing soul.

Love and sympathies to everyone who has lost their ward and friend. Our beloved cat died yesterday after a short but brave fight against sclerosing fibroplasia. We weren't there but are grateful he was at the vets and not home alone. He was only seven and in our care for just over five years. We loved him so much and will miss him forever. RIP Louis Quatorze.

Bro, I lost my 16 year old cat Brody a few years ago. One of the deepest connections i've felt to another living being, either human or non human. I will always remember him and always love him

Pearl was my cat. I had grown up in a household that had family pets but Pearl who came into my life when I was 42 years old was mine. My one and only. We lived together for 19 years. I know and feel fully what Russell was speaking of. I do believe living with Pearl made me a better human.

Today, this afternoon..we are putting our German Shepherd to sleep. He was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks ago. It’s spread everywhere so it’s time. I knew he’d let me know. He’s not eating today & I can see the pain in his eyes. The pain I feel for his loss is greater..maybe just deeper..than that of my father & grandmother. My connection with my dog is far greater than anything I’ve ever experienced with a human. There is no judgement, no resentment, no conditions to this love…this is so painful. The pain is ineffable..truly. Thank you for sharing ❤️ it gave me the strength to acknowledge my own pain.

We just lost our cat of nine years from a sudden sickness. I am devastated. Its hard for me but its worse for her brother from the same litter. They were best friends and now I'm grieving with my other cat. Tough times.

My cat died a day before Mother’s Day this year, and it felt like my heart was ripped out of my body. It hurt so much psychologically that it felt like I had been hit by a car.

Grieving for a treasured pet might be even harder than grieving for a person. I just started watching this episode and am remembering my dog Sheba, and crying, over 10 year later. Her passing will always affect me. SHE was the heart dog.

I lost my best friend Oscar yesterday. He was on the path of renal failure as well but he was diagnosed with jaw cancer out of nowhere and we had to put him down a few days later. I just want to hold him one more time. It feels like I’m going to be empty for the rest of my life.
