It's amazing how much emotion a song can have when you start with great voices, and don't autotune/pitch correct them. These old Simon and Garfunkle songs are all wonderful.
I still do the same and have for each of our four. Sang it to my youngest tonight and she always asks for “the drizzle of the rain”. I said the song was actually called Kathy’s Song and she asked why and I looked it up and we watched this together for a little while. And then she flattered me asking me to sing it instead. No I’m no Garfunkel but she’s used to me.
When I started my career many years ago, I worked with a manager that, over drinks one day, told us the story of how as the student responsible for booking the band for his senior class graduation party, found this up and coming duo they could afford, and booked them. How amazing in all those decades since, to have been the one that secured Simon and Garfunkel for your senior prom.
Paul Simon is a musical genius & Arts voice is angelic .. an union of two magicians that can happen only once in a lifetime.. i grew up listening to these songs, learnt the guitar to play these songs and probably die happy listening to them thank you for so many amazing moments paul and art!
And as I watch the drops of rain Weave their weary paths and die I know that I am like the rain There but for the grace of you go I; The most perfect, perfect line in a song ever!
@Suzanne, how are you doing? Truthfully this song never get old to me. The way it takes me back to beautiful memories it will always be one of my greatest masterpiece of all time ❤️
@@deborahcoveney8846 You replied me 2weeks ago, didn’t see that quite early dear. It was all about my first love actually, and countless unforgettable recollections to give account of. Are you really interested to know?
One of Paul's finest compositions. His finger picking in the outro is world class! Might not be that difficult technically but his feel and dynamic control is sublime
I hear the drizzle on the way Like a memory it falls Soft and warm continuing Tapping on my roof and walls And from the shelter of my mind Through the window of my eyes I gaze beyond the rain-drenched streets To England where my heart lies My mind's distracted and confused My thoughts are many miles away They lie with you in your sleep And kiss you when you start your day And this song I was writing is left undone I don't know why I spend my time Writing songs I can't believe With words that tear and strain to rhyme And so you see I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you And as I watch the drops of rain Weave their weary paths and die I know that I am like the rain There but for the grace of you go I
My Dad died five days ago. He lived a very full life, and he'd been in almost constant pain for eight years, so it wasn't hard to see him go. I've been sad about it all, but somehow listening to this finally brought the tears to my eyes, for no direct reason I can figure out. Thanks for the healing, Paul and Art.
I hope after 4 years, Kathy's song still provides some closure about your Dad and peace for you. I agreed; this song really hits on quite a few theme's in life.
and what is especially amazing is it is six verses, with 4 lines each. No Chorus. No bridge. A simple melody that is impossible not to fall in love with
Lorraine: These two together make the most beautiful music. What a tragedy it is to think that they have such hurt and pain between them. I pray that they each will heal and come together as they did when they were younger. Life is too short. I pray they will realize that and express their deep friendship and love for one another for we never know when it is our last day.
Again and again I turned to this song when my heart has been troubled. Somehow, in a way I've never quite understood, a song that can make you cry in the way it relates to your troubles can be the medicine that can make you keep going.
I'm an obsessed S and G and Paul Simon solo fan. Paul Simon is the best songwriter that ever lived. I have him even higher than McCartney. This song is the best song he ever wrote imo. But God there's so many contenders. It is the only song that makes me cry. I have no idea why, but it just does.
My twin sister and I grew up doing this song on guitars...we are nearly 50 years old now and we last sang it together on November 26 2013 in my Dad's Hospice room. I was tired after 2 days there with him and my sister insisted we sing it...I agreed and with my mother holding his hand he passed away a few minutes after the last note. I haven't sung it since nor can I hear it without crying and thinking of the greatest Dad ever...
how amazing it is that arty always sounds even better in live shows than in the album, which sounds amazing as well, in my opinion he is one of the most special musicians ever born, with the most angelic voice i'v heard
how humble Paul Simon is... a musical genius that few can compare to. and Art Garfunkel probably one of the most underrated singers ever. he has such a beautiful voice in my humble opinion.
I’ve listened to and sung their music for more than fifty years. I learned guitar to sing these songs. I adore all of their music. But listening to this tonight I think this is my favorite song of theirs, especially this version. Paul’s guitar is exquisite and Art’s singing of the song is a spiritual experience. The lyrics show how talented a writer Paul is. Maybe he’ll get a Nobel Prize in literature some day.
Thanks Paul and Art....Your songs are just like poetry.I enjoyed all of your songs since my schooling days....So much to listen to than a song......And I hear the same voices closing eyes and listen to them now....You will never DIE..........
In terms of music, I suggest listening to the One Voice Children's Choir, Pentatonix, Eva Cassidy(deceased), Peter Hollens, HomeFree. Despite the chaos or discord, it has not all gone.
This is a simple, perfect love song. Those are not easy to write. And Paul Simon was something like 22 when he wrote this, with the wisdom of the ages. Amazing.
@@lawrencemay8671 I rather think it is a Simon classic. Simon sang on the original recording and the live version on their Greatest Hits album. The first time Art sang Kathy’s Song was more than 30 years after Paul’s original had been released.
Thank you for sharing one of my favorite songs. Angelic music like this makes the world a better place just by hearing it. I've been enjoying this song most of my life & I am now 62. This song is not only beautiful, but also holds a special place in my heart, as it is my namesake.💕🙆💕
I’ve been listening to this song for the last 4 hours on repeat. Thinking to myself, how would someone write such a beautiful poem?… someone would need to lose a Kathy, I guess.
