Is it me or the two obviously have a "chemistry" problem? Melua's voice was as beautiful as ever, but Lang Lang's piano was tonally disconnected with her signing. It was too laud and out of sync. One of the worst performances of the song I have ever heard in grand concert setting.

On the other hand, Lang was blasting away with little regard to Katie Melua. It was obvious that Melua was laboring and trying to keep up with Piano sound. How could anyone keep up with a grand piano? When you were a background instrument, your main job was to follow the singer. You don't express your interpretation of the music. You follow!
Now that's interesting. I was wondering how Lang Lang would manage the situation since his fans will want him to show expressiveness and interpretation through his play, which is difficult to do if you stick to supporting the singing. I guess they did their best to reach a sort of balance between pleasing his fans (for he's a bigger name than her) and merely supporting the singing. All in all, I think it'd be difficult to cope with.
@@lerigoureux6474 Every star must be humble. When your function was to provide background music, you should stick to his role in this performance. If he REALLY wanted to show his expression, he should have discussed it with Melua and added music when she was not singing.
