There is a story about the construction of this mosque which is historically verifiable. Towards the end of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan's life, when his health deteriorated, he entrusted a trusted servant, Morad Faras, with an important task. That is to quickly build a mausoleum and build a huge mosque with it. One Morad Faras estimated that it was impossible to build such a huge mosque so quickly. Then he demolished numerous temples in the surrounding area of 7-8 km distance from Murshidabad city, collected raw materials for the construction of this mosque and completed the construction of the mosque. Even if you observe this mosque carefully, you can see the terracotta bricks of the temple in the mosque. As punishment for this misdeed, Nawab Sujauddin Khan, the son-in-law of the later Nawab Murshid Quli Khan, executed the builder of this mosque, Morad Faras.

Murshid Sab was originally Hindu . Some compulsion converted him to Muslim but later he wanted to reconnect his origin with this structure, as society refused it. His successors were incompetent unlike Tipu Sultanji. Murshid Sab gave a mix cultural heritage. He could not give proper training to nawab sirajuddalah.

Mr. Khan Nawab MurshidKuli Khan ordered the construction of this grand masjid. The person who was incharge of the construction of this masjid sourced raw materials from several hindu temples. After the construction work was completeld, Nawab came to know about that misdeed & he was given death penalty. Nawab MurshidKuli Khan also had a son, he was also given death penalty. The reason on charges of raping a hindu girl. Just think of his sense of justice. This masjid is a grand structure & beautiful. There is also a vey old masjid in West Bengal, far from Murshidabad town. It's name is Kherur Masjid. It was built during Turko-Afghan Sultani period.

@@MrJunaidAKhan Sir, first of all I give you a lot of respect and love. In reality, studying history is not very easy. Welcome to Murshidabad to witness the history here. There are numerous documentary records about this historic mosque built during the reign of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. Among the various documentary sources is "Bengal District Gazetteer, Murshidabad". Read page no. 29-30 of this book. All will be clear.
