You are so right.....i looked a long time for one until i found one that was in good condition, KM, (Europe speaking here), previous owners (1), Interieur, Extras, maintenance etc....in 2016, a 2002 E39 530i....almost 20 years old and yet the best car i ever had.....of course one has to maintain the car...i renewed the Thermostat, Water pump, Regulator, and a few other things....but make sure the engine has enough oil and water, and the M54 inline 6 will last for ever...
I bought a Sterling '03 530i Steptronic Premium, with 95k miles on it (one owner) for $6300. I loved it so much I recently went out and bought another one. My new one is a Jet Black '03 530i manual Sport, Premium, Cold Weather, with 110k miles (also one owner), for $8400. There's no way in the world to spend less than $15k and have not one but two cars so enjoyable to drive. I drive less than 10k miles a year, so I doubt I will ever need a new car before they outlaw ICE engines altogether.

If you want to fix your shift knob issue, you have to take off the transmission, and replace sone small pins in it wich define the paths for your shifter. you DONT have to open the transmission for that job, but you have to take it off

You can replace the headlight lenses with Helix lenses, which have the clear side markers, and you don't have to buy a whole new housing. Also, the Morimoto EvoX-Rs are bolt-in replacements for the factory Hella E55 projectors. The FX-Rs have a stronger low beam, but the EvoX-R has a stronger highbeam. You could do one set of each, I guess.

Yup, that's the biggest problem I'll have to deal with right now. I'll try and find some headlights that aren't perma sealed and see what I can do. Funny enough i live 30 mins from TRS!
awesome car, ive got the same car. the only difference in my car is the black interior. for the shifter getting stuck over in 5th you need to pull the trans and replace the shift detente
One of most beautiful e39 color! Your car in so damn good condition! I have 525tds and that sucks. Its total disaster with that car. But itself this model is one of my favorite in 1996-2003 period! Peace
Beatiful car!! I have same year same model in Canada. black on black. I have lil more rust but this spring I will fix it all. Check out for oil leaks I fix everything runs like a charm, better than my wife brand new vehicle..

This is definitely the Sport package. Comes with the Shadow Line window trim, 17" wheels, 3 spoke M steering wheel, M shift knob, Sport seats, and a tuned sport suspension.

BMW suck, they're money pits, everything breaks down on it. They will not last as long as a Honda or toyota. Especially this particular car. 2003 bmw 530i 5 speed, wont go bast 180k miles.
BMWs require more maintenance, and the maintenance is expensive. I have seen many E39 530is with over 300k miles though. A Honda or Toyota will far out-live the BMW when little to no maintenance is performed, though.
It will last as long as your Toyota if you re willing to maintain it and repair it properly. On the other hand, your Toyota will always make you fall asleep while you’re driving.
