Katy Perry LEAVING America Idol!! 

The reality is that they are going to want a mainstream superstar, and of course they'll be looking for a woman, because you want that balance. But I'll say this. No one would be a better judge than Clark, maybe even including Kelly. He was also on the show, and maintained a robust career...but mainly, it's because it's what he does! With us and as a music teacher Clark literally has the most relevant experience for being an American Idol judge. If that were the criteria...Clark Beckham would be the biggest slam dunk!

OMG YES finally someone thinks the same! Pink has definitely the realness, the humor, the experience she can offer to the showww!!! She is also a pop icon that open to all genre of music. And age wise, it wont be awkward to see her sit between Lionel and Luke. I hope the producers can see this

Sara Bareilles was a judge on The Sing-Off, and she was great.

@@theahmedbhatti1 I know she's super comfortable with competition based on her experience on the Sing-Off and in her college background, but the value of her advice on a show like Idol has so much potential since the show embraces more songwriting, personal branding, and show performance. I feel like the Voice is more focused on the coach vs coach competition.

Shakira was also a judge on the voice. Kelly is probably the most likeable of the bunch though.

I didn’t care for Shakira as a coach on The Voice, Miley and Kelly were really good.

I like the idea of her as a judge, but I honestly feel she's more of a "The Voice" judge. I'd rather see her working with the singers more

Alanis is a beautiful soul, I'm not sure she can say no to someone without trying to save them, which she could with anyone with some talent and I mean make them better, but I think that's one of the problems with Idol now

She just moved from LA as well. There is no way she can do both idol and her show in NYC.

I actually liked Nicki Minaj as a judge. The problem was putting her on a panel with Mariah Carey. They had very obvious friction. The worst thing Nicki did -- and it was bad -- was to show up late for a live show. But I remember her always advocating for the singers, even when all the other judges were being harsh in their critiques.

I think that could work, but it might help if the second woman weren't a singing star. I'd like to see someone more from some production aspect -- a starmaker, rather than a star. I kind of miss that perspective.

@RobertoBotello Solid choices! Kelly would be absolutely PERFECT because she's so personable, humble, approachable, and experienced. I feel like she would have such insightful commentary. Plus, she perfectly embodies what doing well on that show can look like, which validates and gives credibility to Idol. I'm just not sure if they would take Kelly as a judge since she's done The Voice several times; if they do, they might stipulate in her contract that she can't go back to The Voice for at least a year or two. It's similar to how brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton will sometimes ensure that celeb ambassadors aren't able to immediately sign on to endorse products from competing brands right after their contract has been completed; it's just not a good look. So as long as it's not too soon from another season of coaching at The Voice, Kelly returning to Idol should be no problem. Tori certainly has the talent and credibility to be a judge, but Idol did her so dirty when she was a contestant, so Idk... although, she did return to sing a duet during one season so it's a possibility. Personally, I would like to see her grow even more as an artist and achieve the global success that she so deserves (bc I feel like she's still extremely underrated and hasn't peaked yet - both in her talent and career) before putting her career on pause and becoming a judge or coach on one of the singing competition shows. The Voice probably wouldn't consider her just yet because they typically go for big mainstream stars who have had massive success, and Idol... she would be great at but again, she got done so dirty by that show... Absolutely LOVE Mariah, she's the most obvious choice for a judge that can speak to amazing vocals and songwriting. 80% of the contestants on any of the singing competition shows sing in the way they do because of the standard and legacy she set - the melisma, power ballads, effortless transitions, variations in tone from breathy falsettos to resonant belts, etc. Coincidentally, she's even tremendously influenced the first two contenders you brought up - Kelly and Tori! Qualifications aside, Mariah has also been quite vocal about her negative experience when she was a judge on Idol, so I highly doubt she would do it again. She seemed to have a great experience when she came on as a Guest Mentor on The Voice, so I think she would more likely do The Voice than Idol again. That being said, The Voice focuses much more on the banter and competition between the celeb coaches than the actual contestants, which I think she would hate. She also seems to find giving criticism uncomfortable (with the exception of the truly horrible auditions). She still did a great job in my opinion because she always wrapped even negative comments in something positive. To me, that came from a place of wanting to be careful and deliberate with her words, and being compassionate to the stressed-out contestants. I would love this as a contestant, but I sensed that the powers at be didn't like her longer commentary.

For what Mariah costs nooo

While I'd love to see Adam on the show as a regular judge, I don't think it's a good idea for the judge's panel to be a sausage fest. Maybe in the future, if Luke or Lionel steps down, that would be the right fit.

Agreed! JLo should be nowhere near a judging position for singing. Most qualified judges have first established themselves with their singing/songwriting talent, found success, and thus, were qualified to critique and mentor. You certainly don't have to be able to sing amazingly to be a good judge (i.e., Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson), but the few non-singing judges are very qualified in their specific areas of expertise - Simon in finding and nurturing talent as a record executive and Randy as a record executive and bass guitar player. But JLo... she doesn't have real musicianship as a "singer" and has no experience in what the non-singer judges have done, so really... what is she there for?
