Katy Perry | REAL VOICE (WITHOUT AUTO-TUNE) 

I think that Katy's is best when she's singing soft and slow songs like unconditionally and when she's not moving around a lot, cause then she puts more emotion into her singing and more depth.

She has a unique voice, but she can't use it at all. Escpecially when she is moving.

This is where I have so much respect for broadway singers who have to dance their ass off and still sing perfectly 8 shows a week

Yes, Katy can sing, but then, so can any bathroom singer. I respect Katy's artistry and her ability to write catchy songs; but singing? No...If this was like, her first year in music, I would've still accepted and hoped for better; but after more than a decade in the industry she still struggles to sing her own songs, has an unhealthily raspy voice, and sounds amateur. She needs a vocal coach ASAP; she needs to learn to sustain her voice and use it correctly, even her fans would probably agree to this.

If just she could control her breath she'd be awesome.

in my opinion, her company wants her to sing higher for pop songs when her range isn’t that high, I would really like to hear her singing with use falsetto and forcing out her vocals

She's not a bad singer, ok she's not the best she has a powerful voice and she can control quite well, maybe people think she can't because she has a particular that we are not used to hear but she can really sing.

Pretty much any popular singer, can actually sing. They at one point in their lives were good singers. But with these crazy performances and crazy songs, their real voice gets drowned out. If you place any popular singer in front of a mike and have them just sing, they will be able to sing pleasantly.

Katy Perry has a special voice. It lies between "out of tune" and "pleasantness", and that makes her voice unique. And with pop genre it makes a good combination! I think rock genre would actually fit her voice too :)

Katy is not just a singer when she preforms, like Adele she keeps moving and stuff but when she tries to sound good, and not focus on her physical appearance she sounds really great.

People fall in love with the Studio voice So when we hear the non studio voice we think they cant sing! The studio voice can make any one sound amazing!!! They can make it higher, lower , they can auto tune it to the way they want it to be , they can add reverb , they can add and change so many different things to make your voice better. Its insane! So , Just know that comparing her voice to her the studio voice is unrealistic because we been brainwashed to think the studio voice is the real voice and its not! she still can sing . Studio voice is a very unrealistic for any one to become like in real life! :)

I went to her Prismatic show (I've waited 6 years to see her for the first time), and she sounds so beautiful live. She is so kind to her fans, and she puts on amazing shows! Her acoustic part of the show was def my favorite! People who say she can't sing hasn't heard her live in person. In person is defiantly where you hear her potential.

it's ridiculous how people can make a video with someone's live performance with the background music turned down, hear a couple of mistakes and say that someone can't sing. Well, first of, when you do the kind of movement Katy regulary does, you're bound to make a few mistakes, no singer is immune to that, second, If you think Katy doesn't sing well, I'd advise you to get your ears checked out. I'm a musician, and I stand by what I said, some people just need to stop thinking they're music experts just because everyone listens to some kind of music

If she was singing rock, her voice would match it really well.

Seriously? I remember hearing Katy Perry singing "Like a Virgin" on MTV I think at the time she came out with "I Kissed a Girl". I was like "Who is that?" awful singer. It honestly felt very cringe. Even with that, I honestly didn't expect Katy Perry to sound as bad as she does in the performances here. She's not a good singer AT ALL. She sounds like an "OK" karaoke singer. She just got lucky with her novelty "I Kissed a Girl" song and it spiraled from there. She became an auto-tuned brand. Probably at least a million better singers than Katy Perry in the USA alone. Katy got a lucky break and knew how to brand herself. Kudos to her for figuring that out. But disillusioned fans in the comments thinking she really sounds good I think are trying to convince themselves just as much as others.

She does have a good voice but she's singing the wrong type of songs. For her type of voice she needs to be singing more power ballads or rock songs. She doesn't have the chops to sing pop. Most of the women singers who are in the pop industry should be singing another genre. But that's where the money is and probably the biggest fan base so it makes sense but it's kind of selling out.

I have to say, I'm no Katy Petty fan but there are a lot off ignorant comments here. There are very very very few good live vocalists. Most vocals (if autotune isn't used) are touched up with compression, EQ, reverb, delay and maybe some chorus and then in the studio there is take after take to get it 'right'. Singing live can also induce mic anxiety.Katy Perry has a very good live voice for a pop star IMHO.

Katy Perry is really starting to grow on me. I used to think she couldn’t sing but boy was I wrong. Katy can definitely sing. Very pleasant yet piercing and powerful tone. She just lacks control. Other than that she’s a good singer tbh.

People are pretty stupid to think she uses auto-tune because she doesn't. When she sings in a studio it's in a special room to block background sounds and she is also using a different microphone. When she is singing in a open space there is more noise so she's gotta sing louder so of course it's gonna sound different.
