Underneath all the pop, costumes, bright colored hair, risqué costumes and stage effects there is an amazingly talented singer who deserves every bit of success she's gotten.
She still sings like this. If you've been to her prismatic world tour, she has an acoustic set and it's so amazing and beautiful! There's still a bit of the old Katy in her.
People lamenting they 'miss the old Katy' - the old Katy had an audience of 100 people per night and couldn't afford to pay her dental health care bill. If you want to feel her vibes today you just have to dig deeper than checking the charts for a radio hit and go to her shows. She's as awesome as she was then, and more diverse in her performance. She had Joni Mitchell as a role model once but decided to go a different way. She's not a one genre person and can do anything she likes. Understand her diversity, or simply don't bother about her.
+Klaus Geltl Hmm. I totally understand those people who say they want the "old" Katy back. I think her persona is still the same, she is still the funny, loving and good hearted woman she always was. And I think it's also good that Katy showed us a lot of variety in her music. But I have to admit that I also miss THIS side. I know she played guitar at the PWT. But she could do more than just one song with guitar.. I mean that's how she started and she barely shows her talent as a musician now. I mean.. the last time I saw her doing a TV performance like this was.. when she did The One That Got Away on X Factor/AMAs. And also in my opinion her songs from One Of The Boys fitted her voice much much better than on PRISM. Maybe it's just because i grew up with OOTB. Meh. I still love her and one half of PRISM was great actually!
+Klaus Geltl well she's free to go wherever she wants but i'm free to not fallow her. Her latest albums are "meh" and i don't care if they sell, they don't please me so i'm not listenning to them. Period. We miss the old Katy for a reason, it's because she made better songs and gave a more authentic vibe. I'm chosing to not care about what she does now and i prefer to remember her like she was and not what she's become and it's my right.

She really needs to do a full acoustic album with she playing the guitar. She sounds fantastic when she does, especially with the current things that she's been putting out recently arent her best imo
She’s such a talent and blessing to the world. This is SONGWRITING. I love that she wrote this alone. People need to recognize how much skill she has. She writes every one of her songs, both with and without co-writers. Her voice is so powerful.
To all the people saying they miss this Katy, I have to agree. It's like there are two different artist, old Katy Perry and New Katy Perry but personally I love both, I think she's still 'real' and herself just with more of a beat to her songs
It is April, 2014 and I still nearly cry when watching this. I understand she's changed for the best, but everyone's changed. Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus.. etc. But Katy's my favorite by far.

Katy Perry has been through so much in the last 10 years, it's an amazing story and development! 💜💜💜 Watching these older performances again gives me the feeling of her wonderful journey, such an amazing woman! 💜
She is a prime example of what music industry does to you. She used to be a lovely pure-hearted girl and they turned her into a monster. Im so sad about that and sorry for her. I really respect her humble beginnings
It's mad how much emotion a performance can evoke, and the song itself is just so sad yet so beautiful. Makes you think about someone special to you straight away, and the 'What if' scenario. One of my favourite all time songs, and I prefer this live rendition of it over the official version. Katy perry is one talented woman.
she's a great songwriter five number one singles from one album no other female has achieved that, when she strips it down and it's raw there's so much talent there. I'm happy Katy never gave up on her dream of sharing her music with us and giving us her life in pieces shes so genuine and has never changed in this decade shes been with us. I hope she does an acoustic album soon.

Have you seen her performance of "Thinking of You", "Into Me You See" and "Wide Awake" at the Witness Tour or the performance of "The One that Got Away" at Kaboo Del Mar 2018? She has developed her voice and has developed more emotion in to it, so again, correct your facts.

She does and you should know better than to just go around on the Internet saying something like this as you're definitely not the first to do this. Also, she even cried while singing this song at her Witness tour.
This is INCREDIBLE. Absolutely beautiful. Loved this song when I was going through a difficult breakup many years ago, felt every word.... still gut-wrenchingly beautiful today. Just gorgeous!!

There’s a RU-vid channel that has artist watching covers by their fans. One guy was singing lost, she commented and said something along the lines of “back when it wasn’t about how much money the song would make my label”. She knows where she came from. No doubt we will get an album again with just her words.
She should really release a new album with all of her old songs even those that she didnt complete yet. Add abit of her new self to her old songs but keep it old style. call it flash back or something like that. the people that was the random 3 peeps at her show will start loving her again for who she was and accept the new pop sensation and Im sure she'll get some sort of closure
Have been her fan for more than 10 years, watching this video reminds me of the early days when she sang with only a few dozen people (including adele) and their dream of becoming famous singers. Damn, I cried like a madman at 2am :(

I saw her in concert yesterday and cried! She is so down to earth. When she sang this song, it was like the whole theater stopped. She is truly amazing! :,) i love her sooo much!

Signing slow acoustic songs she sounds much better because she can control her breath and vocals quite more. While on stage singing fast songs she has major breath issues but she actually has a really good voice. Better than Taylor Swift or Carly Jepsen.
I wouldn't say better than Taylor Swift, but DEFINATELY Carly Rae Jepsen..... that girl runs our of breathe SO quickly! Like to the point where it's very disappointment......
I agree with the 'breath issues' thing. She is really having a hard time to like, sing while dancing. But, is it their voices you're comparing? Or the way they play guitar? If it's about the voice thing, I think it's not quite appropriate to compare her to other artists of different style of music/genre.. like you said Taylor Swift, particularly. I really respect your opinion but yeah.. we have different ones I guess. ;)
Carly Rae Jepsen doesn't do a whole lot of dancing either... I think it's just that her hit songs just gives her like a second to take a breather~ maybe that's why she always sound breathy when ever she sings~ (even when she doesn't dance)
"Up and coming artist" Things sure have changed since then. Btw. Katy still performs this song live even 15 years after its original recording! And honestly, I think she has only gotten better since this!
Money and fame are powerful drugs. She produces music that sells now, not necessarily music that speaks from the heart. But yes, I miss this Katy too. I don't blame her though. Wouldn't most of us do the same thing if in the same position? It's not that her current music is bad. It's just overproduced, bubbly and appeals to the masses. She would have had fans either way, but chose to go the pop route because of the larger audience.
I admire her so much! She has grown and shown her effort she started from the bottom like a real artist and I consider that she's so brave and I definitely think she was AWESOME in the past, nowadays and forever. I❤Her
Holy shit i didn't realize that katy is soooo awesome with a guitar! I am a guitar player i know someone who can play a guitar well or not.... Dislikers don't understand music and how difficult it is to sing and play the guitar at the same time.
+Nathaniel Joves No offense, but you are probably a beginner. She's not playing anything really difficult here, just bar chords. And the strumming pattern is pretty much the same the entire song. Singing and playing guitar is hard at first but once you get the hang of it, it's not that hard to do strumming patterns like this.
She didn't lip sync the Super Bowl performance at all. Those were pure vocals. And this is a 2008 performance. Why don't you watch her singing this song on her current tour? If you really want to match them up.
Mid-2022. I still keep coming back. Reminds me of better days. I remember being at Warped Tour hanging out near the perimeter away from people to chill for a bit and Katy rolling up to me on a little scooter, wearing a dress with a flower in her hair. She whispered something to me-I’ll never know what-touched me on the shoulder, and then kicked off on her scooter. I had no idea who she even was until I watched her set later on that night. I’ll never forget that day.
