I don't pretend to be able to describe what I think are the methods of Indian classical music, vocally at least, but I love the way Kaushiki can hit the 'fat middle' of a note, then modulate so elegantly around/under/over the central melodic line. Its so pleasing to the ear. I'm sure there is much more going on here in addition, but this is my perspective on the vocal side of this performance. I love the work of the harmonium in this as well.
meluhawasi I was first attracted to this music by a singer who has lived much of her life in Canada, and much in India...her name is Kiran Ahluwalia...she sings ghazals (I'm probably spelling that wrong, sorry if I am) and has broadened that form out to work with musicians from Mali and other idioms such as blues and jazz . I think I understand to a degree much of what you are telling me and will give all you've said consideration to better understand this music in future. Thanks for 'teaching me' here, that's really good of you. I really appreciate this! : ))
meluhawasi Fantastic! I will follow up on what you are sharing with me. : )) Would Kaushiki sing this kind of repertoire (?), she appears to be a very committed artist.

Swede McGuire Yup, she is very adept. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan possibly the most brilliant composer of the 20the century who died a few years ago described the training that goes into being an indian classical singer thus: 10 years of hard practice before one's music pleases oneself. another 10 years before it pleases others and you are considered a performer. another 10 years before your music pleases your guru. And many many years more before your music is pleasing to your God.
One of the most beautiful voices i've ever heard! i've listened to this Thumri almost hundred times, still the appetite for her voice goes on increaing...... Nothing more to say about it.!
Kaushiki jee is lucky that she is born in a musical family and her hard work and focus on classical music certainly pays off. I heard this so many times and still want to listen to it again and again, amazing!
Another proof that she is the best singer of her generation in the entire India today....Pray that God bestows happiness and prosperity forever for this singing angel.
the lyrics is "kahe karat mose barajori dhit langarwa chodo more kalai aj na maro kankarwa" antra jaon jamuna tat pe gwal bal tadpe kaha sataon mose aye bich dagariya dhit langarwa"
Brilliant, brilliant and brilliant she is both with her god-gifted sweet voice and also with her performance always on top. She is a real champion 🏆 May God bless 🙌 you a lot ❤ 🙏
AS lonely , indian arts is not just about the beauty but more emphasis on creativity and substance ,voice is a medium and not the essence itself , the essence is to make one feel the soul , its not exterior , it doesn't come from mouth but develops from stomach , its the language of soul and not the mind , we are using our mind and mouth as organs to express the voice of soul . Using arts as a medium to connect one soul to GOD .
That's just excellent. Brava Madame! Good to see this in Indian music versus the backward forces of religion and darkness pushing music and art and society backwards by hundreds of years in Iran and elsewhere. This music and singing is life-centric, spiritual, dynamic, and liberating which are all opposite of what's going on elsewhere in the neighborhood.
oh! my God,,,,she is so beautifull and same she has a very very very good voice well she sings from heart, love her voice... mai apki Fan ho gai ma'm...
Kaahe karat Mose Bar jori dhitha langarva Chodo mori kalai aaj Naa maro kankarwa Jaao jamuna tat pe Gwala bal tadape Kahe satavo mohe Aai bich dagariya dhitha langarva kaahe
Seeing her and listening her I feel as if Goddess Saraswati herself has descended on the Earth to makes classical music popular. The old ustaads, Pandits, Begums, Devis, Bais were no doubt genius but were totally unmindful of level of audience. Kaushiki has shown us how Classical music can be made enjoyable to even untrained ears without any dilution of its purity or 'fusion'.
I have started learning the Hindustani. And stepped to Khamaj Raag after Bhup Raag. When I was searching for this I landed up here. Madam you are outstanding. One day I want to be singing like this. Please give few tips.
It is Pandit Jnan (pronounced 'Gyan') Prokash Ghosh, her father's guru, and also hers - a musical genius, who played the tabla, sang, and composed some of the best-known Bengali thumris and dadras.
Everyday in Heaven should start with listening to the beautiful music of the angelic Kaushiki. She is my favourite singer and deserves all the praise she gets. A true personification of Saraswati.May she have a great long life so that we can listen to her beautiful rendition of thumris,Khamaj, light and classical music. Dr Deepak Santram
