It had such bad blow-by that I knew it was the piston rings. Also, I rebuilt the heads so I knew that they were not the problem. Once the engine was opened, it confirmed my initial diagnosis. Fuel washed piston rings and cylinder walls. Thanks for watching!
It has a timing mark on the flywheel to show where ignition should be. The cdi is what controls how advanced or retarded the spark is depending on the engine rpm. As far as I know the timing is not adjustable. Mine is a 2000 3010 so your Mule may be different. If you are timing the valves than there are two dots, one on the crankshaft and one on the cam gear.
