if you are a lawn tractor, zero turn or other small engine owner you've probably come across the option of 4 different oil filters available for your engine. Here I show them all and talk a bit about them, and also show some donaldson oil filters.

And this guy is 💯 right about letting the engine warm up on low throttle. Never rev a cold engine. That oil needs to heat up and flow through the engine.

Good info, and thanks for the six comparisons. I hope you use a Donaldson oil filter soon and perform a teardown on it for our enjoyment!

Thanks for showing the differences. My Scag has the FX730V . I like using the 3/8" drive socket filter fluted wrenches to remove my filters . I had to get a different size for the 7007's replacement.

yup, i have a few different size filter wrenches just like you describe. the new kawasakis are coming out with the Evo series, EFI engines with a new look. I want to take the fan cover from the new engine and put it on my FX691. when i was looking at oil filters for these engines i was confused by all of the different part numbers so i bought a few filters and made some videos as you can see LOL

thanks for the time and effort here. It is notable how Kawasaki has merged their filter offerings to "fit" as many applications as possible, simple economics. For my 95 Vulcan 750 that I purchased new, I have seen at least four perhaps five different specs, all of them shrinking in size over time to the point I was concerned with flow rate and switched to K&N which is the size of the original part. 8k miles, runs and looks like new...well a little bezel rust lol Thanks again

Thanks, this video didn't come out the way I intended. there's a lot of information that was actually condensed. when you walk into the store or go online or read the forums, all the information was confusing and misleading so I sourced all of these filters so I can have them all in front of me at once and figured Id press record and share my findings. :)

Manufactures will bid out their filters and oil every few years to the best bidder ... The new filters are made by Champ Lab, it is the E-core design same as ACDelco and Supertech.... Infact if you want to save some money and have a little more filter media you can use the Supertech MP4967 and the MP3614... Basically the same filters!!!

Your video is as close to some answers I had . For whatever reason , Kawasaki seems to be the hardest lawn mower engine maker to cross reference an oil filter . Briggs & Koehler aren’t . With the price of filters these days it’s nice to have options .

 @randalllyons8467 TONS of options when your cross reference the old part numbers. WIX51394 and Fram XG4967 (as well as Supertech ST4967) for tall filter, and wix 57035 for the short one are my go to. I guess there are some Toyota filters that also cross reference surprisingly.

On my new 2022 Hustler Fastrak SDX 60, I will replace the engine oil filter on the FX730V with whatever OEM Kawasaki filter is on there now. Same thing with the hydros, I’m going back with OEM Hydro Gear ZT3400 filters.
@morejelloplease
@morejelloplease Год назад
and yes oem for the hydrogear , if you can't find them and have a tractor supply nearby, check to see if they have badboy filters, they are actually oem hydro gear filters in a bad boy box. make sure they are the correct ones tho. i've seen kawasaki stick a smaller filter on an engine from the factory because it's what they had on hand, even tho there was plenty of room to stick a higher capacity filter on it. they should all be running the superceeded part numbers by now but if you goto a small engine shop that doesnt get a ton of business, they may still have the older part numbers. dont be alarmed, as long as it fits and it's oem kawasaki you should have a problem with warranty if an engine issue were to come up.

Hey great video. In your opinion which filter is better 49065-0721 or 49065-7007. On my new 2022 badboy elite mower came with the 0721 filter but the 7007 is more readily available. I can order the 0721 or I can buy 7007 from a local store in my area. What are your thoughts if you can please?
@morejelloplease
@morejelloplease 2 года назад
either will work, the 7007 is heavier but i'm not sure if that means it has more media inside, or if it has slightly thicker metal in the casing. the 7007 will eventually be phased out and replaced by the 0721, either filter is OEM kawasaki and if there's an issue it should be covered under warranty. good luck with your bad boy, i almost bought one but saw one in person and it didn't float my boat, you won't like the video i made about bad boy :) at least you got a kawasaki and you're obviously interested in maintaining it or else you wouldnt have landed on this video :) I have afeeling your bad boy is in good hands and you'll keep her in great shape :)

What do you think about Rotary brand filters and parts?
@morejelloplease
@morejelloplease Год назад
never had the opportunity to open one up. if they make filters like they do their lifts then it's prob good stuff. just depends on the type of media, etc. honestly even good components can fail, take scag for example (lol). at the rate i change oil and filters i could prob get by with a coffee filter and still be okay :)

I purchased a KN HP-1003 for my FX801v, I thought it looked odd with no internal metal backing on the media so I grabbed some 49065-0724's, and they appear identical internally, even the printing on the bottom looks the same. I dont like it but figured O.E is good enough, but does anyone know of any other compatible higher-end filters?

Oil Pressure (43 to 85 psi) AT (122 ∼ 144°F) @ 3200 rpm FS, FR, FX
@morejelloplease
@morejelloplease Год назад
thanks for the info, you know the nitty gritty about the difference between the FR691, FX691, and now FT691? i know the FX has the canister filter, supposed to have a heavier duty starter and clean out ports, wondering if there was any difference in heads, or any different internals. you recommend 3200RPM max? most manufacturers want 3600 to increase blade tip speed.
@justintime4524
@justintime4524 Год назад
@morejelloplease 3200 just the oil press test spec that's all. 3200 -3600 is all I've ever seen and that's per the equipment manufacturer. Don't know much about the FX but I know clean out ports are part of the difference years ago. Service manuals, whatever you want to know is in them. I could read one 100 times and still need to pull it out when it really comes down to it.

weird, must have been old stock? that part number shows it came before the 7010 which came out around 2009, i dont think that engine was around then but i could be wrong. no telling what the manufacturer will put on the engine at the factory, the 0724 supersedes the 7010 which supercedes the 0044 according to my research so your dealer is correct, or maybe they are coming out with the 0044 again, who knows :)

The WIX 51348 is a match for the Kawasaki 04965-0724. I installed one of the WIX's on my FS691V engine, Ferris 52" deck the other day. According to my research, the WIX is comparable to the Kawasaki.
