Thank you, this is a helpful video, anyway I looked at the rear wheel of my 2020 Kawasaki voyager 1700 and the belt looks exactly like what you were showing. In other words, the belt didn't cover the whole pully's width.
So, having bought both the Gates 5212 (not 2512) and the Dayco 94928, I can confirm these do NOT fit the bike. Both belts are far too short and the profile of the teeth is too low, likely leading to slipping due to lack of grip. Shame.
The part number we used is listed in the video description - the belt itself is labeled Falcon SPC 139 x 1", made by Goodyear. You need to go by the tooth count to get the correct size. Dennis Kirk also has one on their website, part #1204-0064. We've had it on the bike for over 5 years now, no slippage or other issues. It's been used as a daily driver in good weather.
that belt is not centered on that rear sprocket. That rear wheel is a few degrees, turned to the right. In other words, that wheel is not tracking straight behind the front wheel… you can check that tracking with a long long piece of white string. wrap the center of the string, looped around the front wheel about six or 8 inches off of the ground, so that the string will clear hitting the discs. Bring both sides of the string down to the rear of the machine, one on each side under the saddlebags. Pull the string tight at about the same height as the string is attached to the front wheel. Have someone sit on the machine and hold the bike up and hold the front wheel and straight. Lay on the ground behind the bike, looking down both sides of the rear wheel, lining up the tight string by eyeball. it will be obvious that the rear wheel is out of alignment with the front wheel.. if you don’t have that lined up straight, that causes accelerated wear on the belt, and the sprockets, especially the front sprocket.. thank you for putting this video together. I was completely blindsided by the cost of the Kawasaki OEM belt. ($500.) I know that belts and chains are about equal in efficiency. They both deliver about 98% of the power to the rear wheel. Shaft drive at best delivers 85% of the power depending on how many times the power has to make a 90° turn, once or twice… chains are messy, but they can tolerate small stones and debris more than a belt can. There’s also the unsprung weight factor to deal with on shaft drive bikes that have that hwavy final drive gear housing on shaft drive bikes. You will never ever see a Shaft Dr., MotoGP bike competing against machines with chain drive.. they are just too inefficient, compared to chains, or belts for that matter.. the suspension is free to move whether you are on the gas or off the gas with a belt or a chain drive. When you are on the gas with a shaft, drive, that pinion gear is trying to climb the ring gear, preventing the rear suspension from becoming compliant with road irregularities. That just upsets the handling and the suspension compliance.. I was considering buying one of these Kawasaki Vulcan, voyagers until I found out about the heat issue, the heat coming off of the engine onto the rider, and the fact that it has a belt drive. The belt doesn’t bother me that much, but the heat pouring onto the riders, crotch and legs, I can’t deal with that. Thank you for making this video.
Thank ! You used to go to the parts store and they could tell you which parts could interchange! Now most of them only know how to look up the part number and some ain't good at that ! $500.00 yeah ,]the fuel tank is $800.00 ( I got one already painted for $250.00 I think) a few yrs ago a big buck tried to kill me because I killed and ate a bunch of his cusines , he had every right to try and kill me !!! Got deer with pistol, bow , rope and a motorcycle 2 now , but never with a rifle !
i built a belt system for my 1997 Marauder. i found a 40 mm wide by 2001 mm long. kevlar synchronized timing belt . 179$ delivered to my door. i did tons of math before i ordered but it paid off. .bow have 5000 + miles trouble free. vbelt supply. look em up.
thanks for the tip! Sucks Kaw doesnt release the manufactuer part #...all belts are made by a few suppliers...and yes 500 is ridiculous for a rear belt. Just like the fuel pump is $500 for our bikes from Kaw...which again is ridiculous lol
So finally I'd like to ask if theres is a belt recomendation for the KAWASAKI VULCAN 900, in this case 2008, but I saw that Kawaski uses practically the same size from to 2008 up to 2017, as far as I saw. So the cuestion is, did anybody try the 139 T -1" try on a a KAWA Vulcan 900 and did it fit? Thank you for comments.
I hope someone here can help! I did a quick search, and it looks like the 900 uses a 153 tooth belt. So the 139t would be too short. I haven't seen any 153 belts made cheaper, but I would check with a parts guy who can do a proper search - just ask for the tooth count, don't tell them what bike it goes on, lol. I also read a thread where one guy was trying to use a 154t as it's only slightly longer, but I don't know what the result was 🤷♀️ good luck!
I don't have the receipt any more, sorry I didn't put that in the video, it would be nice to know! Dennis Kirk has it on their website - 1" x 139 tooth. Their mfg Part # is 1204-0064 - it's for a Harley application. $149. The belt itself says "Falcon SPC 139 x 1" - so you can also Google that, it's made by Goodyear. Hope that helps!
@@mikedeuk9351 Sorry, if you need a different belt, you'll have to Google it. Look for one with the same tooth count and the width you need. That's what I did in this situation. Good luck!
I saw there is a brand ATVWorks genuine belt 59011-0021 for $325 and has 153 tooth on Amazon. Still very expensive but less then what was mentioned on this video. Not sure about the 136 tooth. The place I checked online said the 136 tooth did not fit my 900 vulcan custom.
The tooth count is how many "teeth" the belt has on it - those knobby gear bits on the inside. So your Kawasaki takes a slightly longer belt than the 139 tooth on ours - the one in this video is a 2008 Vulcan Nomad 1700.
hello this is Shariff and I'm having the same issue with my drive belt except harley davidson is saying they don't have a belt to match the kawasaki vulcan nomad 1700cc that I have. Mine is 1 1/8 in width and 139 teeth. The parts guy was saying that its not the dimensions but the way the grooves fit on the teeth, that way it doesn't spin off later cause once you put it on the bike, you can't take it back. So my question is how is the new belt holding up now in 2022?
Hmm...that's interesting. I've had several Harley's and currently have a 2015 Voyager, honestly I don't think I've ever seen a different tooth shape on a rear belt...they're all pretty standard. I could totally be wrong..just havent seen a "special" tooth design. I looked at the Kaw belt and the Harley Belt online and the tooth looks exactly the same...Next time Im near the harley shop I'll run in and compare one of their belts to mine IRL.
That's what we did, just went by the tooth count and belt width and it worked just fine. Now in February 2022 he's still running the same belt and it's given us ZERO problems. I put the part # we used in the description, I guess it wasn't Harley-made, but a belt made for a Harley (sorry don't know what model). If your parts guy could look up the belt by width and tooth count guarantee it'll work for you 👍 or just use the part # we did 😊
4 years later this same belt is still going strong! 😁 The bike has been used daily in the summers, year round for a bit while we lived in Cali. 😁 No cracks, damage etc.
It does not, the V2K's use a 133T, 1.5" belt. Check the Vulcan Forums for various manufacturers, but people seem to go with Gates belts for a fraction of the cost of the Kawi one. Gates apparently made the Kawi belt, but they will not sell that exact belt without going through Kawi. There are other replacement options in the forums.
BDL-SPC-139-118 The last three digits represent the width of the belt. If you get the BDL-SPC-139-1 it will be a 1" wide belt. The BDL-SPC-139-118 is 1 1/8 wide perfect fit for the Voyager.
@@robertkennedy3230 Yes 👆 ditto. Sorry I didn't see this sooner, hope you found the right one. The belt itself says "Falson SPC 139 x 1" which brings up plenty of options on Google. It's made by Goodyear. Also Dennis Kirk has one on their website. They list the mfg Part # as 1204-0064.
