By mid-September the days are shorter and cooler, but the bugs have thinned out too. A great time for a brief overnighter on the sea lochs. Kayaking, camping, a little fishing and some cooking over the campfire on a fine calm night. This video is a bit shorter than usual; something to do with forgetting to take along some of the camera mounts for the kayak!

Great video Doug, Kayak looks ideal and looking to get the the same one now because of this film, seems to get positive reviews - thanks for all your videos!

I honestly know very little about kayaks, and this one wasn't bought purely for fishing. Plenty of other videos out there from people who know what they're doing when it comes to paddling! It does seem to be a well regarded all-rounder though.

Did the Zippy finally give up the ghost? I use a Daiwa supercast, good fishing rods. Was you tempted to lick the rock?!?!

One zippy is now retired with a worn out spigot, but the other is still ploughing along nicely. I thought it'd be easier to handle the shorter Daiwa in the kayak, but I don't think it would make any difference really. Too many crabs around for fish to get a look in anyway!

Where did you get your kayak? It’s been something I’ve wanted for a while, any tips would be great

Just picked it up off Gumtree at the start of the year. I've not really used it enough to be a sensible source of tips, except for the standard one of "never buy any sort of boat"! The bigger cost is actually decent waterproof gear, which ain't cheap. Have a look for the Cornish Kayak Angler's blog, as I found him pretty useful. I want to use it for camping and exploring around more than for fishing, so it's more towards the touring end of sit on tops rather than a pure fishing kayak (although it seems well rated for both).

Can I ask where you parked and launched your kayak from
@Corkwing-DougK

Hi Mark, I parked and launched at the end of the Glen Etive road, which comes in from Glencoe. There is a small carpark here and you can drag your kayak down alongside a small burn at the edge and launch into the river Etive. Might be tricky at low water, but otherwise OK. Your other option would be to launch at Taynuilt, into the river Awe, but this is a longer paddle to get to the area I was at (generally better fishing around Taynuilt though). Note that the Glen Etive carpark is small and can fill up quickly over the summer, so your chances are better once holiday season is finished - it's a very long drive down a single track road to find there's no room left to park... It's roughly 4-5 miles paddling to reach the area I was in, but there are plenty of other camping spots closer to launch.
