Awesome video again Al...I went out Friday morning into the ocean...a few km's from 13th beach and we caught a few Snapper (largest 6.5kg 81cm which is a PB for me ) My reason for writing is i used a zman 10x tough Grubz in Motor Oil which you have recommended in the past for catching fish...and caught 5 x Pinkie's ranging from 32cm to 45cm, including one that must have been that hungry it was lodged between the eyes and not actually in the mouth. Bazaar!! but awesome.The snappers (81cm, 71cm, 68cm, and 59cm were caught on squid and bluebait for those that are interested) Anyway just a thanks for the video's and advise throughout the last years.Look forward to maybe meeting in the bay or in the ocean one day. Its been a long and shitfull year here in Victoria but hopefully we'll see everyone out there soon. Cheers Tony

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 года назад
Thanks Darren. Yeah it was an awesome session, I have caught many salmon between 45cm and 60cm but nothing of this size and girth before. Funny how the salmon fight harder than the snapper which are much bigger. Hopefully this is the signs of a good season ahead of us.
@Doodsy1975
@Doodsy1975 3 года назад
@@fishingmad it's funny that Snapper are really everyone's obsession this time of year, but really, compared to salmon, trevally and others, they really don't compare in terms of fighting ability. I've caught 6kg snapper that just give up after one short run, but a 2kg trevally will fight to the absolute death. Yet we all obsess about snapper. And I'm as guilty as anyone of that.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 года назад
Thats 100% right. Both those species are so different in how they fight. Salmon dont give up until they are in the net, they go on big bursts and large runs, change direction and jump out of the water making it quite intense. Snapper go on a big initial run, and often one last big run near the kayak or boat. You can feel the big head shakes. I love them both but pound for pound salmon would be in a class of their own.

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 года назад
The drag sound is awesome on the Vanford. There is a lot Iike about the vanford. The weight is so light, casts well, handles good size fish really well. Just the bail arm feels a little flimsy and the handle doesn't feel as nice in the hand as some other reels. But honestly its a very nice reel that you wouldn't be disappointing with.
@hangyu0211
@hangyu0211 3 года назад
@@fishingmad I completely agree with you on the bail arm. The majority of the Shimano reels have the same thin and flimsy bail arm. On the contrary, the Daiwa SOL III, or LT series in general, has thick and strong bail arm. If only they can work together, huh?

While ci+4 felt way better than the equivalent Daiwa reels at the time (in my opinion), the Daiwa has done a fantastic job releasing current LT series. @fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 года назад
I agree. I just like the ffel of the Dawia LT reels. There light but they feel really solid. I also like how they have 2000 sizes which shimano wont do. Shimano have some brillait reels, but good to see some very healthy competition and alternatives.
