Awesome event! Everyone was extremely conscientious--more so than many of the other close-quarters fishing expeditions I've been on. A special thank you to the group that volunteered to give me extra space when I hooked the big one that got away! I was asking if they were hooked up so I could give them extra space but they saw what I was dealing with and moved away from me. Thank you!
I was surprised and happy to see about 10 other kayakers out there! I hope that one of my colleagues ended up on the leader board.
In this video I eat crow, and, luckily, some coho. In a previous video I made the, apparently, inaccurate claim that leader length isn't that important. The video starts with one of the hottest coho streaks I've ever had--8 bites and 4 catches in under an hour. I lost a hook unhooking a coho then tied my lagging hook in front of my leading hook rather than retying my leader--shortening it substantially. TEN MILES and almost FOUR HOURS later I figured out the error. The competition was nearly over by then. I still caught a nice fish, but it wasn't worth weighing. I self-disqualified to catch a couple more fish.
