Winter time means putting away the summer toys, but how and where do you store bulky items?? In this video we show you one of the many hoist systems that are available and how to install it. This is a straightforward DIY project and we hope this helps answer some questions and get it done yourself.

Great instructions. Putting the string through on a table was brilliant! Loved the tools all laid out that are required- so thorough. Vancouver Island lady with tools.

Thank God that you posted your video....your close ups helped me so much with the whole set up. I watched a couple others that were just not as clear as your video. I flipped my kayak upside down to give me the added inches to get my Jeep Rubicon under it.

Same for me. Your video helped me a lot since I bought a kit without instructions. Your instructions were very handy. I would not have guess how to install the rope on the pullies and the right way to install the brackets. Many Thanks!!!!!!

Thank you for posting, great point about how far down from the ceiling the top of the kayak is after hoisting which can make a big difference on the available space below.

You can get much closer to the ceiling if u install the anchor poits farther out than the length of your object and you have where to hook onto it, i did this with a canoe and was able to get the canoe within 3" of the ceiling

Thanks for the video! The instructions read terrible for threading the pulley system- I tried to do it myself but couldn't figure out what to do with the second end: I didn't read the instructions very well. This was incredibly helpful. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting this video. We bought the same hoist in the link (was more expensive here in Canada :), but it was worth it, IMO), my son and I followed the steps in the video and all worked out wonderfully. We've flipped the kayak, as recommended by some commenters. Pretty cool I say.

Bought one of these hoists from Canadian Tire today and it's exactly the same but the instructions aren't as good as the ones in your kit. I screen shot the rope routing at 5:11 in the video and that helps a lot more than the stupid instructions I got. Thanks.

You made a fantastic video! Thanks very much! I wouldn’t give a nickel for the printed instructions from the manufacturer. When it came to treading rope through the pulley system, the manufacturer’s instructions were awful. Anyway.. Kudos to you! Thanks again for great instruction.

Thank you, I bought the kit, then couldn’t remember how to install it. My instructions are gone. I’m installing this in my boat house and having to create headers to hang the hardware. I’m not a carpenter, a lady with tools who is determined! Thanks.

Good luck with the install! Glad the explanation can be of help. I'm sure the kit will work well in the boathouse and free up wall/floor space.

You don't need a hoist. Rachet straps and 2 eye bolt lag bolts are all you need. Just find the stringers in the attic, and lag eye bolts to them.

Excellent explanation. Would it work with the kayak inverted ? Would that raise it further from the floor and help to keep the straps from spreading ?

Since you've put blocks of woods into the ceiling joist, the included lag bolt would pass through the wood and into the drywall due to its length? I'm thinking of using a correct wood screw instead so it's just fasten into the wood instead to going through into drywall.
@jofalltrades1816
@jofalltrades1816 2 года назад
I would agree, the lag bolts included would not be long enough to bite into the framing if you had to use the blocks. I used 4" construction screws which worked quite well and should thread into the rafter/joist at least 2"
@gngan
@gngan 2 года назад
@@jofalltrades1816 did you aim the lag bolt to the joist? Or just the block of wood?
@jofalltrades1816
@jofalltrades1816 2 года назад
@@gngan The blocks are fastened into the joists with 4" Const. screws, the brackets are fastened with the lags into the blocks. I pre-drilled for the lags so there was no splitting of the block

The brake on mine is stuck. Any suggestions? Thank you, Suzy
@jofalltrades1816
@jofalltrades1816 2 года назад
If it won't release, try pulling both ropes away from the brake end to lower. Sometimes pulling back and forth on either piece of the tie off rope will release it as well.

Your instructions were good. I’m so disappointed with this end product. It works like it’s supposed. I’m using it in my boat house and I don’t have enough leverage to use it. I’m not strong enough to pull. So now I’ve bought a ratchet set and can use that with the straps. Oh well😤🤣 I sure tried.
@jofalltrades1816
@jofalltrades1816 2 года назад
Ah, that's too bad. I know my kayaks weigh about 35lbs each and the pulleys do lessen that weight a bit. But it still takes some effort to lift and hold the rope with each pull. Hopefully the ratchet set works well!

My kayak is 80lbs, just have to accept my limitations sometimes or modify the design! 🤣

Do you have a picture of this? I am trying to understand this because if your anchor points are further out then the object then what stops the straps slipping off the object? Or do you have a rope tied between the 2 connection points? And if this is the case does it become hard to lift the object close to the ceiling due to the angles?
