I covered my whole deck in bed liner spray. 10 coats total adding grit from sandpaper after each coat sprayed. Started wit 60,80,100,150,200 then back down. I just rubbed a sheet together after each coat wile wet. Amazing grip has yet to flake and been out over 20 times this season so far.

you should put like a mirror cone inside there like a flashlight end, with a small drilled hole for the led light to fit in! that should enhance your lighting.
Just for reference, the gray pvc is supposed to be alot more uv resistant. Usually found as conduit, but i have been told that they make drain pipe like that too. Nice build though. i like the solar lights idea. just bought an F&S eagle talon yesterday and all i have left to do is get lights and make a rudder.
jj bobby That is most definitely true. That is why we coated our pipe in saltwater resistant coating. Gray conduit is less available and more expensive usually so thought we would show people how to use white standard schedule 40 pvc for the build. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Oh to the days when I filmed in my living room and laid out tarp to spray paint! Katie would kill me now if I tried that. Key is doing it when she isn't home. During the snow covered winter months I kept the kayak in the front porch of our rental home and sat in it to watch netflix movies. Now in Florida I don't have that and oddly I love it and miss it at the same time. :)

in regards to the rubber undercoating spray, if you aren't set on a particular brand. harbor freight has it in their brand and it ranges from 4-7 for a can depending on if it is on sale. they also have a spray bed liner for about the same price. both seem to coat very well although I have not used them for water usage...yet... :)
Jimmy J Thanks for sharing the information. Every once in a while the coating that we used goes on sale. The link to the rubber coating is in video description. It works great on water applications including saltwater.

Have you been able to use either the dog leash or clothesline leash in salt water? I wouldn't think the internal parts would be stainless so I doubt they will last if fishing in salt water.

We used a product called ClickSnap to attach to the previously mentioned painter's pole. Just curious the Bondo Rubberized Undercoating - can I spray paint over it ? Thinking about using a HiViz Yellow or Orange Spray Paint over it Thank you
No sanding or priming needed with the undercoating. Sanding will likely improve adherence some but hasn't enough significant results to warrant the extra work. Just make sure it is visibly clean PVC. Thanks for the question.
wow this video is awesome. questions, will that dog leash retract my 5lb claw anchor or my 2 lb bruce anchor? and, u think that spray coating can be used on the bottom of my Big Rig kayak to prevent further scratchings from shells, etc? kind of like those keel guards that they sell. thx so much for sharing
You must pull on the anchor line to assist reel in retracting line. It will not lift any anchor without kayaker assisting in lifting the anchor. To answer your other question we have not tested the spray can coating under full continuous submersion and abrasion. If you did choose to spray coat the keel area of the kayak you would have a difficult time removing it later (heavy scraping and mineral spirits). We thought about the same thing actually. We however at this time don't have an answer. We would need to test it heavily before recommending it for that use. You would have to tape off the keel and shield off areas you wouldn't want sprayed. It would spray on clean and likely apply well but longevity is still in question for that use. If you do decide to use it for that purpose please share your results so we can help the DIY community. We appreciate your message.
KayakDIY This video and this comment has inspired me to try spraying this product on the bow of one of my PA 14's. I find that is where most of the abuse occurs.
I need it for keeping lots of smaller fish alive and being able to keep alive the occasional larger fish. I also have used it as on deck dry storage when not fishing. It is a matter of preference. I actually have several homemade livewells for various types of fishing. The larger livewell is nice for tournaments. My favorite is actually the bucket livewell I did a video on. At KayakDIY.com we have lots of livewell container options & pump kits.
The coating is linked in the video description below the video. It comes as spray cans. It coats much better than Flex-seal or any other rubberized coating I have tried. It is also salt spray resistant according to labeling. Thus, it should withstand saltwater better than other means.

I have not seen this question asked yet, but what Sch PVC did you use? I would think Sch 40 would add a lot of extra weight, but Sch 20, might be flimsy. The right Sch could possibly be the difference between something that will last, and something that might possibly break with a few good waves. I was wondering what you used?
+KyleMatt11 Yes, this video was filmed with older camera and poor lighting in South Dakota. We have since then relocated to Florida and hopefully improved on our filming. We now shoot almost exclusively with a 4k Leica camcorder or 4k GoPro.
