Kayak Trolling for Striped Bass in the East River Near the Whitestone Bridge

Got out on the East River and found a couple Striped Bass near the Whitestone Bridge on opening day of the season. Managed to land two fish at 24" and 31" keeping the slot fish for the table.
Lure - Nomad DTX 110mm in Bleeding Mullet
Rod - St Croix Mojo Jig (MJJ66MMF)
Reel - Shimano Curado K (CU201HGk) - Need to upgrade the trolling reel
Line - J Braid 30# Green with 40# Fluoro Leader

Good fish bro 👍👍👍👍...All of my baitcasting reels are left hand retrieve and my buddy thinks I'm weird so its nice to see left hand retrieves...My fish stringer and pliers look just like the ones I have too 😂😂... Stay safe and keep killing them bro

Definitely starting to see more left retrieve reels in the market these days. Just makes sense for vertical fishing or bucktailing fluke.

Looks like a great spot to fish. Did you drop a line along the bridge piers at all?

There were pilings with netting around the bridge foundations and a sign that said to keep 25 yards away, so i wasnt able to drop directly on the structure there. Surprisingly the water was only ~25 feet or so in the area of the bridge supports, but it dropped off pretty rapidly as we went towards the center of the river. Cool spot to be fishing.
