Alan, you don’t realise what a godsend your vids are…. I’m an Aussie Mental Health nurse & just had the most horrendous day . Felt like crying when I got home. The last 2 years are taking their toll. GhostBusterTrace, I'm feeling for you. I worked as a mental health nurse here in the U.K for 10 years and that was enough of a commitment to it for me. A worthy rewarding profession, but nothing is worth you getting burnt out and unwell. As you know, once you get burnt out, it can take months, if not years to recover. I like the idea of using big bags to carry out stuff from a kayak to a campsite. So simple, yet I haven't thought of it. I usually used my hiking backpack to move things from the car to the kayak. And I had to make numerous trips between the kayak and every campsite on a route. Miss my water adventures. Thanks for the great video!

Thanks for sharing your amazing adventure! I've been looking forward all day to watching this. 10/10! You've given me so much inspiration to camp on a island. Last week I swam from the jetty to St Herbert Island and back. I was really curious about the island. Next time I'll get out and venture and next year I'll take my kayak out. Really enjoyed that video Al, even though I missed blue I took my hydra out on its maiden voyage to last weekend and stayed at waterside on ullswater it was great fun with my son can't wait till he's more used to his kayak and we can start our adventures while he's still young, after watching your vid he says dad we gotta go and do that keep up the work you really do make people get out and live life 👍

Love those Derwent Islands, done a bit of wild swimming in the lake and explored the Islands. The lake is surprisingly shallow, there's several places you can stand up a fair way from the shore, especially in summer. Cat bells looked very dry and brown too, unusual for this time of year.

Well the island we stayed on had no birds at all because it’s used that often. I thought the others might be similar but nature lived there instead👍

I camped on kinder scout on easter weekend and a bloke with a dog (not on a lead and not even obedient and didnt listen to him) pulled me in the morning saying "that was a bad place to camp, curlews nest here" he had a badge on that I couldn't make out but I thought he must have been with the national park authority or summat. I said I wasn't aware of the birds and if I'd known I wouldn't have camped there. He then said "You do know wildcamping's illegal don't you" to which I replied yeah of course but it's tolerated isnt it above the highest fence or wall and I always leave no trace. I then hastened to tell him his dog was about 50 yards away, (he was oblivious...too busy lecturing me....) and not on a lead to which he said "I know dogs don't help either 😂) he followed me all the way down the hill and just to make him question his righteousness lol I picked up every bit of litter and put it in a carrier bag, and you get quite a bit at Easter on kinder with day trippers that don't really understand the rules. Not saying owt bad about dogs btw and Blue's probably twice as smart as me 😂 super obedient and well trained, It was the only way I could have a nibble back at him.

Spot on video Alan, the kayak looks brilliant, perfect for touring etc, derwentwater is our favourite out of all the lakes we've been on paddleboarding and kayaking, and it was the first lake we paddled on too. Stunning surroundings, and when its still in the morning it is amazing, looks like you lot had a great camp on the island 👌. Nice one, atb Mick 👍

Top quality film, and made me feel like I was really there. The atmosphere on Derwentwater and the island seems fantastic, peaceful and soothing. Quite right to leave the nesting birds alone. Just an idea; you dog is blue, so you could call your Kayak, "Green".

Have started to follow your channel. I'm a Swede living on the west coast of Sweden. I have two dogs. We are the ones searching for lost dogs and cats. People pay us for doing that. We often search several cats every week. Very often I have to say no to people because our capacity is much lower than the demand. My dogs are trained trailing dogs. That means I present them a smeller that smells mainly of the animal we are going to search. Then the dogs follow just the smell of the animal and don't care about other smells. That means they are trained in discrimination of smells. I'm retired so the dogs are with me mostly 24/7. When it comes to kayaking I have had a problem. I have an old kayak I bought where I can have one dog. However now-a-days I have 2 dogs. One Flat coated retriever with 40 kilos and a Belgian Tervueren with 30 kilos. Before I have not found any other solution than to use a canoe which I have a composite wooden one that is very beautiful but it is a canoe. It is often windy on the Swedish west coast and then a canoe is not very much fun. I have 2 real sea kayaks but they will not let you bring a Medium/large dog. However I found some time ago a good solution. I think I will sell my kayaks and the canoe and get this new Norwegian one. I don't like the moulded PVC kayaks. @@BUSHMANandBLUE I won't bang on...but you have inspired me Al to get more of a can do attitude..do things in general on an active basis...more gym..longer dog walks..local trail group etc. Live in Australia now.. but get to the Lakes everytime I return...there so much more than the touristy bits isnt there!! look at you sport nice new Kayak I wonder if you do video on the specs and features of it plus with kayak you can paddle both ways wow you leaving me missing my younger days on the rapids 👌 a hint they make wax you can apply to hull and it makes it glide on water no resistants you will notice speed from it fast excellent video good luck with your new kayak stay safe( its great to have toys)

A real coincidence . . . . I've just finished watching your vid, and around 20 geese have just flown over my house in V formation, honking as they went. (Living in Romsey, Hampshire, we're surrounded by water meadows and the River Test.) Maybe you should call the kayak The Green Goose.

What a coincidence - I ve been to the Lake district once and Cat Bells is the only hill I've gone up and I loved the views as you say they are special. I camped in the campsite on the Derwent waters edge. Thanks for the video, I missed the dog though :0 ] woof woof.

You got lucky with Rampsholme island. I landed my paddle board there about a month ago and there were nesting birds everywhere. An angry swan then blocked my path back to my board!

Nice to start on Derwent, go downstream to Bassenthwaite, then carry on down to Workington, out to sea then finish at St Bees.

😂 yes you need to be able to fit all the kit in well and I was happy with how it went first time out. Also it was to test my camera mounts out that I made and see how they work. Again very happy with the footage 😉👊

Great video. I enjoyed seeing your edging technique, something I am working on in my Delta 15S. What a beautiful sunset you had and were those Canada Geese flying in at that time? I’m heading out for 4 nights in The Massasauga Provincial Park on the SE corner of Georgian Bay in Ontario. Thousands of islands with colourful Canadian Shiekd granite and wind-shaped Jack Pines. A favourite area in which the Group of Seven painted. PS, thanks for setting the example of wearing a life jacket.
