As someone who used to surf and has a Shearwater 125 on order, it was hilarious. I absolutely intend to try this but I'm going to call on my surfing experience to shoot for gaps and time it right
You are some kind of guy. Always coming up with new ways to turn over a kayak and making it fun to watch. I like the parasail idea attached to the yak.
I'm with a few of the other commenters. The Shearwater is sadly lacking in on-the-water reviews in ocean conditions. As someone who only kayaks in the ocean it is really frustrating to find so few reviews of any of the boats on salt water that is moving. And forget the standing on the nose, tipping test stuff. They all tip. Lets see how much water comes in thru the scuppers (a noted issue), how it moves thru chop, etc; the real issues when choosing a kayak. That said, being in SoCal and usually making surf entries, by my experience you might want to try that again with a few changes. Observe the sets (those looked a mess) for a while and see if there are lulls. Keep that boat pointed out straight and get out of that shallow backwash area as quickly as possible. That shore return was pushing the boat into a broach and no one can hold a kayak that is shallow and sideways. Get a little deeper and mount up as soon as the back of the wave has passed and paddle like you are racing for your life. That way you catch the backwash and gain some momentum before the next wave hits you. Surf entries in medium waves and larger are challenging so you have to exploit every advantage you can get. Glad you didn't get hurt in this attempt.
There was no timing the waves here I just couldn’t hold the boat long enough, i thought by getting on it quick I would have a better chance of fighting the waves but have the boat was dragging and I wasted too much energy trying to center it... this weather situation was bad, I think if the wind was ok it would have worked but not like this
I know exactly what you're thinking is next. You're going to attach one of those parachutes to a kayak aren't you. You're crazy dude, but fun to watch.
Thanks for trying. I'm really close to buying the Shearwater but there is no x drive available now. I'll keep looking for a stable pedal kayak, besides Hobie.
Wowwwwww this is amazing! I think it is the first time we got it right this is the Sony A7siii with a tamron 70-300 f4 and a Peter McKinnon variable nd filter 2-5f
This what I really call texting a kayak. That's how I di it with my kayaks. I been obout to sink many times . Fluk over. But hey life in not fun without adventure. Good video brohhh.
Lol....Killin me Aliex haha....looked like Zero timing of surf/waves. The conditions obviously weren't great but it was definitely doable lol. Good video though for the people who don't have much seat time in bad conditions.
There was no time to time the waves buddy, the amount of energy that it took just to hold the boat was incredible...I would like to see you try this with 25 plus more like 30mph winds and fast waves hitting you
@@build.drive.fish. I have done it too but you don’t realize how bad this was, did you see the palm trees ? I think if the wind was say 10mph and the same waves I would have do it ...will see
Lol...I bet the coastguard was talking on their radios...is it odd that that Cuban is desperately trying to paddle back to cuba? Alex be carefulout there. You might need better conditions to try mi hermano
Yeah the palm trees behind you show perspective how bad not really that shore break you were messing with! If you'd made it out?? Coming back would have been even worse.
Not sure if anyone asked yet. But, was there any water in the hull when you got done? I guess this would be just about one of the more effective leak tests out there...
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻And for today’s forecast for 🤔Hialeah 😂 winds out of the east 40 mile an hour sustained gusting to 60.......Aliex... hold my drink box watch this🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
😂😂 very few watch till the end and I don’t get it, why the rivalry? We are big happy family there is enough humans to sell all brand of kayaks to. You can have vibes or hobies or old town who cares
Been there done that bro...when the wind surfers are out there , you know its gonna be a sketchy entry and exit. You gotta watch the ocean for like 30min and time the entry and exit between the sets of waves. Getting away from the pier also helps in my experience. 10mph winds seems to be the cut off point for the kayakers in Dania.
I need to ask am here Florida also how much did it cost to register the old town kayak am planning to get the 106 and wanted to be ready with the money before buying it nice video like always 👍🏼
Lol, great try, I use to take my sea-doo out in weather like that, and had a blast But without a serious motor you stand no chance in conditions like that
I got it! this is a safety video of what not to do, lol! somebody had to put it out there first. crazy dude.shit made me laugh. Im thinking this is not a stable Kayak.
@@AliexFolgueira Yeah I know, Vibe looks like a good Kayak. No Kayak would pass that launch ability test with those conditions.I don't think. but again fun video.
@@AliexFolgueira I tried to make it out on the rockfish opener here in cali...I made it out fine it's when I landed the damage happened 🤣had a yard sale on the beach luckily I recovered most my items...
Just watched it again hahaha....First indicator that it's going to be bad is where there are dudes Wind Surfing hahaha.....It's a wrap if dudes are wind surfing lmfao.
That was a brutal shore break Aliex! The only kayaks I would attempt to launch in surf like that are Viking Profish Reload and Stealth. The Shearwater is not the right kayak for surf launching. Too wide and heavy and the rudder and seat easily damaged in surf. Sometimes it is educational to see what a Yak can't do!
@@AliexFolgueira Stealth also has in hull storage for your rods. I have seen videos of idiots trying to launch Hobies in rough conditions then ending up with a massive yard sale and collecting a hook in the hand for good measure.
@@AliexFolgueira without a doubt. I actually thought you would this time too. But when you came back and I seen them trees blowing in the background I actually laughed. I said no way. But you already tried. Hahaha
No funciona en el mismo canal, y se me hace difícil hacer videos en inglés m, imagínate hacer el video doble....quizás cuando solo tenga RU-vid como trabajo
Can we put the tuffy thru this ? I mean if it was legal to have motors on the beach do dangerous anyways bro this conditions are worse than Haulover stuff 😜
Yeah yeah better timing, what timing ??? There was no timing bro did you watch the video ? The waves 🌊 were coming one of after the other, completely submerging the boat and staying on it making it 2-3 heavier, did you notice I could not hold it ??? Got away from my hands twice !!! lol it is incredible people online think they can do it all and better lol 😂
I watched the whole video waiting for disaster. 😂 really not much though. reread my comment you interpreted wrong. I was saying even if you were better you would of just got capsized further out. That kayak isnt made for that. But there was some spots you could of timed it but you would of got smashed sooner then later. 100% i can surf launch better then you, thats not saying your bad Im really good at surf launching and kayaking. When no one can get a bait out the bargain with me to get their bait dropped. In my kayak that was doable but hell. In that kayak thats what we refer to as a death or dummy mission. Something is getting hurt the kayak or the kayaker or both.
@@charlestonsharkandsurf no I read your comment right, you came back with the classic “I’m better than you” 😂 yeahwhatever man If thinking that you are a better surfer makes you feel good go ahead...I’m just here laughing at you guys....these cameras don’t capture how bad it was...like for example the sound... the mics are designed to reduce the wind noise so it feels less bad also I didn’t use dramatic music which would have made you think it is horrible 🤣🤣🤣 To recap, you could not time the waves because they were moving so fast you couldn’t , 2 theoretically you could stand there for 20 mins and see an opening and launch but that wouldn’t work either because you would have to be on the the sand ready to go and by the time you get in the water it would be too late and as you saw I couldn’t hold the boat while on the water it got away from me twice and what’s more we only had 30 mins to do this it was almost dark again you don’t see it because the cameras don’t show it ....
@@AliexFolgueiradont take it as internet hate. i know my stuff that was serious chop steady 2ft plus n 20 plus maybe 30 winds. I could tell by the trees and the size of the waves behind you. Ive yaked in that before. That was beyond that kayaks limits. Thats why i said even if you were better it would of just got you flipped a little later, i didnt mean you weren't good. Thats like a notch below master level. Most people shouldnt attempt or go out in. But since you seemed a little hurt here is something to pick you up. Lol I did like the video and the message at the end when you were by the trees. The unsuccessful yak out followed by a guys don't do it message should penetrate even the hard heads.
@@charlestonsharkandsurf I’m physically hurt lol 😂 my legs hurt and I arms feel like I went to the gym 💪 and I was completely out of gas lol 😂...if you ever make down here to Miami let’s go I would love to have you try...I think if I wasn’t so tired maybe at least I would have push it thru a bit more like probably 10 ft or so then flip, even if I were to head out I think I would have flip on the way back .... now I think if I was using a stealth kayak or something that wouldn’t pool water I would have gotten far
@@AliexFolgueira I’m use to just going solo so solo find a deep spot on beach or as deep as you can . Deeper the better less of a break and easier to get in. wait for wave to hit the beach then shove you’re kayak it as far in as you can jump on it ……..basically the same thing I do with my surf board .
Vibe Shearwater ...... NOP to windy !!!! VIKING Profish..... HOLD my BEER!!! Joke a side i like your videos but just for the sake of being obvious that is not a real ocean kayak hell any kayak that is flat bottom and wide is made for comfort and stability sure you can take them out in the surf but a soon it get a little ruff well... rolling time
