Gotta love Persian heritage, I watched this concert 3 times already because I've never heard anything like this before, it is calm yet not boring to watch, Bravo! 👏
This is truly a masterpiece. Here Kalhor expresses his pain for "Halabja massacre", and he's called the composition "The Death City" or "the city that was put out" by genocidal acts of Saddam Hussein and his general 'Chemical Ali'. You can read about Halabja Massacre on Wikipedia. Kayhan Kalhor said himself in an interview of his pain for the tragedy of Halabja, given that though he was born and raised in Tehran, his parents were from Kurdish region of Iran. Kayhan Kalhor conveys a message, beyond the fact that those innocent women, children and people of all ages in Halabja must not be forgotten, but that we, in the face of adversity must get up and get on, achieving higher things in life and make our marks in this world, rather than sitting down, licking our wounds and feeling sorry for ourselves. In addition to Halabja, you can see in Kalhor's music his personal pain of losing his mom, dad and brother to a bombing attack on Tehran in the same war. His efforts and achievements are reminiscent of so many Jewish people after the Holocaust and their achievements, that they felt like they owed it to their dead ones in Concentration Camps to live life and achieve and keep their memories alive. Kalhor, too, has been doing so, so effectively. By this music and many more compositions he keeps their memory alive, both of those children in Halabja and his parents and brother. Salute to Kayhan Kalhor. Bravo❤❤👏👏👏👏🙏
This is a contemporary jazz masterpiece, not solo monophic iranian work , mr. Kalhor work it with different good musicians, and thank to nature Of jazz music all have different tastes, no matter i perfer what proformace but mr.klhor is musician who can understand nature of work other players....❤
What a sad book, what a tragic movie, what a great symphony, what a measurable life story. This is the history of our life, and this is what we have been through in the past 43 years. We are kind, friendly, humble people, and we deserve better. Thank you, Maestro Kalhor, for leaving this as a document for our next generation. Thank you on behalf of a generation which their life burned in Silent City.
What an influential language, what a moving story of a generation who saw its life burning in front of his two eyes. Our generation is caught in the middle of odds and ugly which is empowered by notorious regime. Regardless of how sad and impressing it is , I believe that our ashes will raise toward the sun and brighten the future of our next generation. We are among the best nations in the world who is slaved by an evil. The chains will be broken, the birds will fly and the light will glimpse into our lives and the music like what maestro Kalhor is performing will remain as a instrumental illustration of what we have went thought. all the best . Great musician with their music bring joy to your body for a period but only a few have the ability to energize and create a profound effect on every atoms of your body to the point that every time you think of them that effect will return as if the atoms of your body have memorized their music KAYHAN belongs to the later
الهی پاینده و برقرار باشی ای افتخار هنر 🍇🎶🍇🎶🍇🎶🍇🎶🍇🎶🍇 Dear Iranians, I can only say, "O roaring river that flows so hot, you took us to the depths of the ocean."

I am not a musician, but I think it is safe to assume that musicians like to push the boundaries and extend the scope of their instrument(s). See my comments above for the story, I believe, he is trying to tell. If he was a writer, he would have probably written in English to reach a wider audience; he is not. He is a musician and he is adapting his music to appeal to a wider audience beyond the borders of his native land. By doing so he's promoting Iranian classical music.
