I had to struggle to see anything other than “Final Fight,” so kudos to you for standing up for yourself. On another note, hoo boy, this game looks like it’s gonna get even crazier!
ive been binging this playthrough and was only gonna comment once i caught up but OOGH you brought up trial 4 of the first game and i have to say smth because i think about dr1 every day of my life and if i dont overanalyze danganronpa ill pass away what i love about hina's actions in that chapter is how it's a weird mirror of what byakuya did in trial 2. they both messed with the crime scene of someone else's death to throw off the trial - the crazy thing is that byakuya did not at all intend to kill anyone with his fuckery, but dear sweet hina DID. and yes what hina did is pretty unforgivable, and what byakuya did to chihiro is unforgivable, and it was unforgivable for hiro and toko to have attacked sakura unprovoked - that's all honestly part of why i love the survivors of the first game so much. most of them SUCK and sakura's trial brings out the absolute worst of half of them. and yet they move on and work together because they have to. plus sometimes i feel insane pointing out byakuya's character development in the first game because he remains pretty douchey to the end but his crisis in the middle of sakura's trial and subsequent declaration that he won't play the game anymore? after he's been arguably the most active player who hasnt ended up dead? hits me GOOD. and it's the fact that he and hina did almost the same thing in chapters 2 and 4 that makes me like the weird moment after trial 4 where byakuya, in his convoluted dickish way, basically tells hina to move past what she did. it probably wasn't intentional on the writers' part, but i like to think byakuya was recalling his own actions in that moment. also i think the falsified suicide note from monokuma, the way it was such a tiny and fairly believable thing to plant for hina to find, was one of the best examples of monokuma's manipulation, BECAUSE of how it led to hina having the horrifying realization that she went against what sakura wanted. that's the kind of psychological horror i wish there was more of in this series. i really think the degree to which the dr1 survivors are willing to be terrible people for. reasons that are more or less poorly explained in the text, from kyoko getting makoto voted out to hina trying to avenge sakura, is why i love them. you can argue some characters 'should' have died or lived, but something about the seemingly random selection of characters that survive the first game makes the story feel, in a zany danganronpa way, realistic to me. with all that said i probably prefer dr1 chapter 4 to dr2 chapter 4, but i do love gundham and i think he got the best ending possible for a danganronpa character. cool murder, cool motivations, cool execution, what more can you want. ANYWAY i am so sorry for the essay i have brain worms so so so bad but i have very much been enjoying this playthrough :] nuggets beloved
