Compare to Brass plate! • KBD75V2 Typing Test - ... KBDFans KBD75V2 Gateron Black Inks Aluminum Plate Brass Weight Durock Smokey Stabilizers Switches and Stabs Lubed with Krytox 205g0 Kebo Switch Films Mill Max Hot Swappable
It's definitely a combination - I think the ePBT Keycaps on the aluminum plate go a long way towards that sound. It would be much quieter and clackier with GMK ABS. Plus the KBD75V2 is a fairly resonant case which is toned down by the case foam. I've been meaning to upload a comparison video with a Brass plate which might give a better comparison. Should be up soon!
@@7echa Sorry for the delay! Since it was an older recording I had misplaced it hahah I'll try and upload that tonight as a quick comparison video between Aluminum and Brass Thanks for your patience!
@@7echa I was hoping to upload this as a side by side comparison, but had some trouble with the old aluminum sound test file and different sound settings. Still - Here's the video that I've been meaning to upload for a couple months haha It's recorded at the same distance and same mic gain settings. Exact same board, caps, stabs, just swapped out the plate. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JqO3aDS-uIw.html Hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions at all
Are gat inks really scratchy? I thought I just had a bad batch. I have KS 3 yellows and ink blacks and upon comparing them, my yellows are a loooooot smoother when lubed and idk why. Maybe messed up my lubing? But as I listened to yours there's also that slight scratch so now idk :////
Did you use MIll-max 7305 or 0305 sockets? I am looking to build a KBD75V2 for my first board, but I want to make it hot swap. I see no difference in soldering in sockets or switches as it will be about the same effort. Sockets being more tedious of course.
I personally prefer 7305 because of the tolerances. I've used them for multiple KBD75V2 commissions/personal boards at this point, and can highly recommend. I've also heard that 0305s can work, but I prefer the lower profile of 7305. Unfortunately 7305s are more expensive, so if that's the make or break between hotswap or not, the 0305s really aren't much worse. If you do go the mill-max route, I'd recommend a few things: Using solder that is .20 in or 5mm, using five pin switches to ensure straight sockets, when you swap switches, because the plate, case, and PCB are separate pieces - when you swap switches, do them one row at a time. I've always been impressed with how this board and the V2 PCBs work with Mill-Max!
I too went with an aluminum plate and gateron black inks but my board has a lower sounding thonk. is there something I did wrong maybe over lubing? I also have the tofu65 case.
You gotta release the key after pressed when you do individual presses. If you don't lift the finger off the keycap, you're blocking any potential rattle that could occur.
From Novelkeys! Unfortunately they're currently sold out novelkeys.xyz/products/godspeed-v2-deskpads?variant=32208219111517 They do try to restock them, though
Hey! Thanks for the question. They're Cherry Black on Black from EnjoyPBT. I bought these from KBDFans, but they're currently out of stock. kbdfans.com/products/enjoypbt-keycaps-dye-subbed-keycap-set-117keys?variant=37322187917
That's a good observation! I thought the same thing at first - and after some testing discovered that the cause was my fingers on the rough PBT texture. I meant to reupload a test with smooth GMK ABS, but never was able to. I'll try to do that comparison in future videos.
