The Robert Johnson/Jerome Smith/Rick Finch rhythm section is just superb. And Harry Wayne Casey was the funkiest white singer of his era with no peers.
I wish other bands had the guts, creativity and sense of fun to have a 5 minute synchronised funk around the stage mid-song. So great to see, I hope KC & the band comes back over to the UK soon.
No I missed them as well, I could kick myself, KC has so many great tunes, they were the sound track to the late 70s/ early 80s. I did see Shalamar though this summer in Bournemouth, they were great.
How could anyone possibly remain seated during this performance remains a mystery to me even 46 years later. It would have taken chains to keep me down.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this...ever. I’d paid big money to go back and be right there, front row. I think my head would have exploded. Some serious R&B laced disco. 😀💕
Man these guys sure knew how to have a good time. KC is always smiling you can tell he absolutely loves what he does. This band has so many great hits.
@Chris Stevens WTH, looks like you have a NEED to be a DOWNER! REALITY CHECK, the MASS shootings of these days have killed (a lot) MORE innocent kids than all the 70's serial killers put together!
Wonderful performance. And what a rhythm section, all but ignored by the cameras: Jerome Smith (guitar), Richard Finch (bass), and Robert Johnson (drums). An absolutely relentless groove. RIP Smith and Johnson.
I don't care what anyone says, 70s fashion was FANTABULOUS! 😁 I saw KC and the Band when they opened for the B-52's in Washington, DC last year. That joint was JUMPIN'!
THE ORIGINAL KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND IS THE BEST OF ANY OF HIS BANDS. UNFORTUNATELY MOST OF THOSE GUYS PASSED AWAY LIKE THE LEAD GUITARIST, PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE HORN SECTION
Rick Finch was SO GOOD!! I'm SAD for him now, I wish he could get his OWN thing going with a new band, instead of constantly suing KC. I noticed his last case was just thrown out (Jan. 2023), AGAIN.
Jerome Smith is the sickest rhythm guitar player to have ever graced this earth (This side of Freddie green that is). No wonder Rick Finch referred to him and Robert "shotgun" Johnson as the foundation of this band. Everything gravitated around those two!
Yep!! I was in my 20’s in the 70’s in 1977 this jam was already 2 years old & still popular. The Ohio Players Con Funk Shun Early Kool & The Gang had a brass section oh it was an awesome time. GQ was also 🔥🔥🔥This music is Timeless. Peace ☮️🎵😎🎤
Harry said in one of his interviews, that at one of his events, the audience was told to stay seated (it might be this one he was referring to)! This really ticked Harry off!!! He likes people to dance and have fun at his events!!!
@@KittyGrizGriz: Yeah, he was really disappointed at that particular event - and I think a little shocked! He had never seen such a thing! His music was created specifically so people could have a lot of fun and participate in the evening! Oh well, good thing it was only that one event where that happened!
KC is so extremely talented. I remember being 6 years old when this song came out! He had the best band in the world backing him, and the great backup singers too! Perfection. So much energy in every show they ever did. I loved his smile.
@Willie, same here, I was born in ‘52. I also enjoyed all that music you mentioned but in addition, I caught some late 50’s music. What a great time that was.
unbelievable. I was a teenage boy when I first saw this on a Saturday night. Had not seen it since until now. I never forgot about it. Over the years I have played this very scene in the back of my mind hundreds of times. It just popped into my head today. Life is strange. I'm 60 years old...., it still thrills me.
All great acts start off humbly....working at a record store in Hialeah, Florida for $8 an hour in 1973. By August 1975, this song was tearing up charts in the US and making people grooooooooooove. Take a bow, Harry Wayne Casey!
Get OUT!!! You were making $8 an hour?!?! In Florida in 1973? I don't beleive it. You musta been robbing the till bro! Hell, Florida's Min. wage is $8.56 today! Federal minimum wage is $7.25 as of 4-24-21. B.S. Scout.
Dude, I'm from Hialeah, knew KC and NO WAY was he making $8 an hour working at Recordsville back in the early 70s! The minimum wage was like $2 an hour and he only worked part-time...
I lived in South Florida in 2004, people WEREN'T making $8.00 an hour, even then. He would have been making $1.XX an hour as that was the starting (minimum) wage back then.
KC and The Sunshine Band played at the Ontario Place Forum in Toronto on the evening of July 26th , 1977. They had to close Ontario Place in the afternoon because of the overcapacity crowd. Ontario Place was built over the waters of Lake Ontario. People were swimming across the channel or stealing boats to get to the show. Now I can see why!
Yeah, they had REAL drumming from Robert "Shotgun" Johnson, who was EXCELLENT, instead of electronic, robotic "trash". I'm SAD he was the first to pass back in 1983, as GOOD as he was, there is almost NO information on him! (Why is that?) 🤔
Wasn't a big disco fan, but I loved KC and the Sunshine Band. He was so into every performance and you could tell they all were having a great time. My mom loved everything about him (may she continue to RIP )
pure groove...this guy was a groove master...just locked into a hypnosis groove and drove it to the ground...it is impossible to feel sad listening to this music...bass n drums so tight...dream drummer...just plays tight time for hours
What about that God Dam guitar player, he's smokin!. Bass player has two Ampeg V4's. that's 32 ten inch speaks and 800 watts. One on each side of the stage. This band doesn't need to be in the rock hall, they need to own it!
I wasn’t into disco back in the day, and I’m kind of sorry I wasn’t because I would have loved to have seen this band live. I just wasn’t at a point where I could appreciate them - but now I do! Unlike the garbage today, this was talent. Absolutely unbelievable performance.
Lee Sher..My husband & I saw them three times in an oldies but goodies concert during the 1990’s & early 2000 era. They sounded great! They still sound great in 2023! ❤️🙏🏻⭐️👍
Friday Night, 77, we return from watching a high school basketball game, turn on the tv: KC/Sunshine & That's the Way I Like It. The 70's became brighter. He, They, were outstanding.
I saw him preform years ago at a casino in Sydney Australia. It was amazing. Not many people filled the room but he preformed hard like there were millions of people. I'll never forget it.
Even though Rick Finch ended up in jail there is no denying that his bass playing and co writing / arranging / producing were an integral part of these super funky and fun hits.
That's what I don't want to mention,, go for fun night,, drink a couple beers,go to prison on the wau home,, i can only laugh because i wrote all that ofg,,, ever goi g out to have a night of fun ever again,, take chance of driving home,, get pulled over and go too prison,, glad i had fun when it was still legal too have fun,,,if you don't drink,, guess it is all there waiting on you,,!!!!?
I was 17, and He kept coming out with song after song. So many great musicians at the time, it was incredible to hear all of this music going down at the time.
April 2024 and this still ROCKS!!! Check out the funky dancing from 3:03! That's Ronnie Smith, a beautiful man if ever there was one! He met with a tragic end years later. Love you always Ronnie!
Over here in 2022 crying tears of nostalgia for an era I didn't get to live. I was born 11 years after this performance and I stay living in the 60's and 70's
Quelle ambiance de folie. J'avais 14ans à cette époque là. Tout le monde ne pensait qu'à faire la fête. C'était inclusif, l'exact opposé de la période covvid.
I always thought it was so cool the way KC dances while playing the keyboards. As a musician myself I can say it's hard enough to play an instrument and sing simultaneously, but to also dance? That's some top notch boogying down! 👍🤘✌️
WOW just WOW When the singers sang, had a band, played their instruments in your face, the whole group smiled & had more fun than the audience bc it was all about having a great time. Wth hapened?
Always, but yeah: I feel you about right now especially. The world definitely needs a dose of KC & The Sunshine Band and, ideally, this specific electrifying, cathartic, brilliant performance.
The 70's was lit!!!!! We knew how to party back then!!!! Go head KC & The Sunshine Band!!!!! My all-time favorite song Get Down Tonight!!! They were doing the Hustle Line Dance. Ol boy in the white was not playing with his dancing!!!!
That's a workout just to watch that video. I remember dancing the night away during the disco ages and I think we had to burn our clothes the next day, as they were so covered in sweat from having so much fun at the disco bars. The only other band that will wear you out watching them besides KC were the TALKING HEADS. Crazy powerful stuff. Couldn't beat the '70s. Man oh man did we have fun hitting the bars and partying the night away on the weekends.
Fuck people didn't realize how good they had it back then... You could go see a concert like this, then go see Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, the Ramones, Sly and the Family Stone, the Stones, the Who, Bob Marley... and on and on.. What a time for music!!
SAW THESE GUYS AND GIRLS IN MONTREAL IN 77..KOOL AND THE GANG OPENED. ---- spectacular!!!!!!!! (midnight special and kirschner shows expected performers to do their performances live...leave that lipsync sh#t behind...and thats why THIS is so good.
