I'm not a huge fan of Annie Clark's more recent work but this performance and her set on Austin City Limits from the same time period are just incredible. I wish the ACL videos were still available.
00.00. Intro 01.56. The Strangers 06.30. Save Me From What I Want 10.15. Just The Same But Brand New 16.30. Interview 26.00. Actor 28.40. Black Rainbow 34.00. Marrow 38.20. Laughing With A Mouth Of Blood Fuzzy video but good sound on this. Brilliant renditions with good jams except maybe the first. Annie seems oblivious of the camera, she and the presenter cannot see each other and there is much geekiness and a play of facial expressions to enjoy.
Im so happy this finally got uploaded officially by KCRW but I will always have this upload and performance to thank for getting me more engrossed with Annie
This disaster showed up on an article that said artists who played cheap guitars. The title should have been cheap guitars will allow people to play them. The guitar sounds like crap. A mid-tone, No personality sound. And I can't hear one clear note that she plays. If it wasn't for my familiarity with every chord that she played just by looking at her hands, I would never have heard them and what I listened to. It's a good thing the guitar was drowned out by all the other instruments. I won't bother to mention the complete dependence on electronics and sound processing. It's a sad part of music today that it falls down to - well socially acceptable and correct music, by people not willing to stand up speaker the voice and take a chance. Everyone is trying to promote music in the last 10 years has been trying to promote calm mellow sounds. Nothing to incite or excite anyone. I'm 57, I played since I was 7. Iknow exactly what I'm talking about.
Pretty sad that at age 57 you have to resort to commenting on a thirteen year old RU-vid video to convince yourself that you are somebody. Perhaps buy yourself one of the guitars she designed for Ernie Ball Music Man and take a trip down your personal memory lane.
