This is the most awesome presntation I have experienced in my 50+ years of listening to music. KD is a National Canadian Treasure as is the author of this song, Leonard Cohen. Truely among the best on earth.
This is the wifey typing. I am Canadian and when I hear K.D. Lang singing I dropped everything and watched her sing. I started to cry and everytime I listen to this song I cry. What a beautifrul song from a beautiful person! Thank you K.D.
this brings chills down my spine. I'm doing a assignment for economics right now and i'm researching the olympics. The olympics has brought together countries all over the world and for instances from the olympics like this, i actually for a bit think that the world is finally at peace and everyone is united as one. This song for some reason is just amazing, and it touches me and it ALMOST brings tears to my eyes
1I had the privilege of seeing KD Lang perform in person at the dress rehearsal and then on TV during the opening ceremonies. She has an amazingly powerful voice and anyone watching that night could tell that she was as moved by the lyrics and music as her listeners. I love the Leonard Cohen version of this song, but KD owns it. We are so proud of you, KD!
I don't understand why some people say this song was inappropriate for the Olympics due to what it is about. Who cares ? It was a breathtaking performance and provided inspiration to those who were there and those who watched it on TV.
How often do you really see an artist? The microphone is not stuck into their nose, no antics, just a voice true and perfect. The millions who were priveledged to see this were, well, priveledged.
Aren't we lucky as Canadians to have such TRUE talent representing us in this world? I don't think Canadian talent gets it's proper dues in the international arena, but we, as Canadians, recognize what we have. I'm damned proud of our talent!
The pure sound brings me to tears every single time I hear this, beautiful Voice that's been lent to our ears. We're very lucky to be here in the world with her gift.
This is positively the best rendition I have ever heard of this song. I've heard many other performances of this great song, and none come near the depth or passion that kd lang has in this performance.
This Lady is a gem...This song is hers in my humble opinion...the expression she sends-out singing this is really a "public display of her feeling a song" so to speak. I'd love to have an opportunity to see her live.
This song just brings back amazing memories of the best 2 weeks (in my mind) in Canadian history. I have never been so patriotic in my life during these 2 weeks... everytime I came home I would watch the Olympics all day. My god I miss these Olympics so bad!
i will never forget watching this live on tv in ireland .i was just amazed .i dont often be lost for word s to describe an event or what ever .but what i saw of the performance ..yes i was lost for words .
Diese Stimmung ,auch heute noch bin ich ich begeistert von den Lied, der Präsentation von K.D Lang.Sie verzaubert das ganze Stadion. Was für eine Leistung. Schön ist nicht der richtige Ausdruck. Einfach unglaublich. Danke dafür .Danke. Danke
I Gotta say, She knocked it out of the park!! Absolutely, ...Breathtaking! She made me so proud to be Canadian!! The Athletes did too!! So proud of our athletes! And singers, too!! An unexpected bonus! Who would DO Better than that?? I'm guessing...NO ONE ON THIS PLANET!!!!
When I watch at the 2010- I didnt think that I would be taken a back by all the singers I especially found KD Land.....so breath takening to listen to her music- she was so moving, so profound- need I'd say more!!!! Thank you for lifting my spirit, Lori :-)
I can say the same thing everyone says...beautiful...breathtaking...amazing...etc. One person singing .....no techno stuff...no big show...and look at the crowd. That tells you how fantastic this performance was...k.d.'s presentation and the song....it IS unbelievably fantastic. This sent chills...goosebumps...and then a warmth ALL over.
I was at the opening ceremonies. Easily my favourite memory of all the olympics. Gives me shivers every time i listen to it. We live in the best country in the world
Watching this live she had me in tears with goose bumps, She brought the house down. I wish the Olympic Committee would give up the video. Maybe we should start an on line petition or something. No one can sing this song like KD and this is her very top performance of it. Simply exhilarating..
This is the most amazing version i have heard.Noone else can compare, i feel like im on the clouds and an Angel is singing to me.ABSOLUTLELY STUNNING.BRAVO.
I have this in my favorites, when I put it there they showed the actual performance. Wish people would stop messing with copyrights or whatever. This is the OLYMPICS which is for the whole world to see. K.D. you still bring chills when I hear you singing this and tears to my eyes. I would like to see anyone top this in the Olympic ceremony's . I have been watching them for 50 years, this will live forever in my heart
OMG, she's just unbelievable. I've listened and watched this performance many times, at this site and others, and it brings me to tears every time, complete with goose bumps. She is THE most expressive singer ever. And what a fantastic voice. I love her.
Each time I listen to this, and I do every time someone posts a new one as the best version, I am reminded .... k.d. lang did it better than it will ever, ever, ever be done again. Simply magnificent.
This is one of those songs that stirs the soul. Coupled with the styling and strength of KD Langs voice it is hauntingly beautiful. I can not listen to this song in public or even speak about it. Such emotion is generated along with a feeling of spiritual longing. The emotion is similar to those generated by the meaning of the classical piece Pie Jesu. Thank you katherine dawn!
Thanks for posting this. What can anyone say. This is perfection. I'm so proud to live in the same country as this amazing person. k.d., I hope you know how much you mean to us.
i never cared too much for KD Lang, but by the end of that rendition she had made me think she is pretty amazing. like many others have said, it's hard to hear this song and not shed a tear
It brought tears to my eyes when I heard it that Olympic night. I sat there in awe. She is as precious a Canadian jewel as any there is, or ever will be.
I cried when I saw her perform this during the ceremonies. It touched me so deeply. I have followed her career since those days of crinolines, plaid shirts, and geek glasses. She is not only one of the greatest singers in Canadian history she is one beautiful woman.
WOW! The last part sent chills up my spine so much so that I have already played this video up to a million times and I want to listen to it again ... k.d. lang, you are golden
Watching her performance was one the most emotionally moving and awe inspiring things i've ever seen! The craziest part being the fact that i watched it on tv! I can only imagine what it must have been like live! Bravo kd! Hope that also helped in the pursuit of rights for all. Love in any form shouldn't be regarded in any fashion other than what it is, love.
An amazing delivery of a song everybody has tried and most have failed to do justice to. Takes more than a great voice to make this song work, and I've never heard a version as compelling as Lang's performance here. Wow.
I doubt anyone else could sing this song any better than KD, she is absolutely flawless in the delivery of this song...so full of heart and conviction.
thank you for sharing. she said she thought she was going to probably sing 50 seconds and found out she was going to sing it all and thought to herself either she is crazy or brave i just think she is shown more people how talented a singer she is. so glad she did. her performance was incredible. all the best :o)
I had goosebumps from the second she sang the first note. Gives a whole new meaning to "hitting one out of the park." The acoustics in that venue absolutely sent her voice soaring - this is so much better than any studio recording of the same song.
A Beautiful song, A wonderful presentation. What K D does in her personal life is none of my business. - As long as no one tries to force me to change mine.
Great song, and honestly the best part of the opening ceremonies (among other great parts); the fact everyone was still somber over the Georgian luger that passed earlier that morning really made this performance chilling.
One of the most AMAZING singers ever :) My heart ceased when I saw it was KD to sing at the Olympics. And I don't think my heart started again until the song ended. I haven't heard her voice since I was younger and of course she, too. I hated what Country music did to her. I wish she would come back. Things have changed KD..They can not deny a voice like yours. Wish I could stand next to you and sing..
The combination of this song from Leonard Cohen and this performance by k.d. lang should certainly make one believe in a great creative force in the universe.
Thank god for you tube. I watched this on tv as it happened - lying in my bed, half asleep. By the end of it, I was sitting up and couldn't stop crying. / 39 y.o. male
Amazing, watched this live, was a very very proud Canadian that night.. She has been one of our greatest songstress voices, I remember her first song, which was a pretty wild video LOL
