KDUO-FM 97.5 Format Change from Easy Listening to Oldies KHTX-FM (1992)

The last easy listening music song was played on KDUO-FM 97.5 on Saturday, January 25, 1992 just before 6 am. The station then gave the public 97 hours of airtime to do whatever they wanted in one-hour blocks. Finally, on January 31, 1992 at 5 pm, the new KHTX format was introduced.

Grew up listening to KDUO and was so sad they changed. Will always be forever a family favorite.

I love easy listening music. It's one of my personal favorite formats. But I also love oldies, so this change is awesome! And very, very creative!

Easy listerng should come back on radio...KDUO should go back to the easy format.and add new music... Now it all stinks!!!

I use to listen to this station as a little . I would sit at my doctors office Dr. Schwartz and wait for my name to be called. The memories of this radio station has never left me as I am 55 yrs old today.

Worked there overnights in 1989 I think? Under PD Larry Collins, and MD Chris McKay. Great Memories as a Greenhorn out of Broadcast School from Spokane, Wa. Unheard of! :-) But I DID KNOW and was RAISED MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC! :-)

Kduo 97.5...i hope it will go back...it will be great for the new century..and have a new generation enjoy it...Kdou 97.5 Kjqy 103.7...and Kruz 103.3..all were great...When 94.7 the wave started it was great than 2000 it changed and became just like the others...now it all Stinks!!!

First it was KDUO-FM 97.5 Fresh FM (for Easy Listening), and then it changed to KHTX-FM 97.5 K-Hits FM (for Oldies).

Too bad I know EZ listening it's not very profitable now days, but how inspiratinal, relaxing, beautiful, sublime, peaceful, elegant, charming and to change all of that plus audiences that grew up with that for over 40 years for the benefit of the radio industry sounds like B:S, I'm sorry to say this but it's the tendency of a decaing generation.

i was so young when this happened! i wish this was still around! they were using my favorite jingle company of all time! Jam Creative productions of dallas! this was jam's second station in southern california I guess? the other being KOST.

The problem with almost all Oldies stations is that they only play Top 10 Oldies, which means you eventually end up hearing Doo-Wa-Diddy over and over and over...

I wonder if this radio station would’ve succeeded as an oldies/classic hits station, if they elected to target 99.9 cola instead? Because, I believe they were trying to target KRTHM, in Los Angeles, which has a bigger signal

I grew up with KDUO FM 97.5...very sad to see it go!!!...what happened to radio?..it now all sounds the same....it was a bad mistake..to change the format..since it is the only one of its kind...it should of stayed..and added New Age..this is very bad!!!...now there is no station with anything different..same with KTWV 94.7 the wave...it sounds no difference than the next one...now the net is now the place for everyone and everything!!!

Thank goodness Bob wasn't a regular on the air. He could barely read a sentence! "People off the street with no radio experience at all...". Interesting bit, but... hmmm. The first guys were clearly geeks, but having fun! 😂
