Any singer who’s singing a song to deliver its meaning, is putting themselves in the situation, which means they are acting based on the lyrics and the meaning. Acting does not mean its not sincere and have no pure emotion in it. To effectively deliver the emotion, one has to relate their own personal experience into their performance. When one is performing, they have to act by putting their own personal emotions. In conclusion, she is acting, but that doesnt mean its without emotion. @@musicgamenews sorry to say everyone has different opinions but I think songs are all about the lyrics. Especially emotional songs like these. She put all her efforts in it even if it isnt about the lyrics the emotion and style of the singer really tells the story. An example is Sia. Many people find it difficult to ynderstand her vocab unless they know her songs but she has amazing emotion to it.
As a musician, she didn’t just sing from the heart, she sang from her soul. We absolutely live for these moments, which RARELY happens! We get so wrapped up in doing things “right” with the music, that we often fear of doing it wrong. Moments like these make us realize that we LOVE what we do.

This song was before the movie was released, and they had to present it to the producers in order to try to sell the movie idea. It hinged on Keala and the singing team being able to present this song in a way that the producers couldn't help but want to do the movie, and it was nerve-wracking for her and the team. Hugh Jackman was there to give his support, both to the project and, as you saw when he took her hand, to support Keala. Never, NEVER question why a singer is "so emotional", because when you sing from the heart, the tears will sometimes come. Watch some opera, musical artists of all sorts, learn what passion really feels like. Then try again. No offense, but this really turned me off to y'all.
She wasn't in the movie when they recorded this. This was a greenlight run through of the songs... Not only did the movie get the greenlight after this, they offered the part to Keala on the spot. All the emotion was hers.

This song is also the reason/and the moment that Keala was cast in this role. Usually the people who perform the songs in these sessions never get cast and so this is a pivotal moment in her career as well!

I was revisiting This Is Me today and this popped up with it. The comment "why is she so emotional" with the follow up that you're not big on lyrics is why I stopped watching and I haven't clicked on a reaction vid from this channel ever since. Crazy to see all the comments felt the same way.

She was not acting here. She was terrified of stepping out and being put on the spot of attention. She had to push herself to just do it and take charge, but she was highly emotional, even scared through several parts. That was NOT acting. That was her heart right there.
Did you know in the movie where she grabs the smaller man’s hand it was actually unscripted. She stated it was actually her being nervous and holding onto someone’s hand helped her.

This is what actually got the movie green lit. And she had not taken the role yet. Hugh Jackman had the song specifically written for her voice then went about getting her to take the role. She refused but finally agreed to sing it for the green lighting session. At this point they were still trying to get an ok from the studio. This is also the moment she decided to take the role. And they refused to cast anyone but her for that part so they didn't give up. When she grabbed his hand and shook her head that was actually her agreeing to take the role in the movie.
If you ever felt the way some people felt in the world daily you would see why she was so emotional.... my Aunty Keala was always a big woman and people always putted her down for it... but as big as my aunty was her heart was so much bigger..... i really hope yall had a change of heart, so can u see why this song is so emotional for her...

Her emotions stemmed from the fact that she felt such a connection with this song; almost like it was a testament to her own life, and the struggles she's always faced. She even said in an interview that she always had a hard time singing this song because the words hit home for her.

Actually Keala wasn't even cast in the movie she was supposed to just sing the song. It was this performance that got her cast as the bearded lady. It was so emotional because she was scared out of her mind and every word is her life
I'm really not a fan of musicals, but I really liked the film. And, this performance in this small room is so filled with energy and emotion. If you love music, and are not moved by this, you better get a cardiologist to check out your heart.

That wasn't acting. She said at the beginning of the video that she didn't even want to step out. Watch her performance and interview on the graham norton show. She had been hiding in Broadway for 25 years and told the person who asked her to sing it no she would sing alto or Sabrina but please get someone else to sing it. This is true stage freight and I love that it is genuine and she truly is nervous. Keala is someone who doesn't think she is as great as others think she is. I relate to that everyday. I have anxiety that makes me afraid to get close to people and be in crowds, afraid to stand for myself to certain people and have sudden outbursts of anger or crying for no reason. Letting yourself be real open and vulnerable in front of many people is a nerve wracking thing. Those years Kerala is releasing, the shaky and broken voice and the smiles is real and not fake or acting.
