Tony Hawk made sure younger millennials got a chance to experience an insane amount of good music that we weren’t being shown anywhere else in the 2000’s. For that he’s always got my respect.
"Police Truck" was the coolest thing I'd ever heard as a 12 year old in 1999. Not a chance I'd ever have heard it without the immaculate THPS soundtrack.
Seriously, the first Tony Hawk game reshaped the course of the rock music industry because so many young people were exposed to a curated playlist of the best underground music at the time.
The band tells a story about how they were on tour when the game game out and the crowd went crazy when they played Superman and the band didn't know why. So sick.
I think Primus's "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" in that game was one of my first exposures to the band. I'm still a huge fan years later, having seen them live several times and playing bass in a band that covered Primus a lot in highschool.
In the skate and video game world, he’s the goat. I think remembering Keanu wanted to do a video game from his comic book, I could be wrong, or maybe it was a movie 🤔.
it’s the humility that makes them cool. neither of them have any kind of ego, they’re just happy to do what they do and happen to be very good at their respective crafts
THPS2 was the first time I heard "When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 500 and "B Boy Document 99" by Mos Def. And that Mos Def song introduced me to hip hop.
@grimrecords7656 you should get the remaster. It's 1 & 2 and the devs added mods so you have perfect balance, perfect grind and never fall. For whatever reason Spiderman isn't in it but it's like a trip down memory lane.
@@JM-nd9zf Hey to be fair the year 2000-2002 still felt like the 90’s, and still definitely had its cultural influences still around. But yeah definitely didn’t play in the 90’s lol
2 of the most wholesome and legendary men ever. I’m 30 and never did I dream of these 2 having a conversation together. This is what the internet is about
@@ajarofmayo988sure but maybe he was part of the first 3 the same way, dunno. I never played the first 2 really. THUG was pretty good too before the garbage that followed.
The Tony Hawk and Need for Speed video game series had some of the best music of any video game franchise at the time. I discovered a range of awesome artists and bands through the games' soundtrack.
Absolutely. Put a lot of good hip hop on the map. As do a lot of skaters and the culture. Certain groups like Jurassic 5 and styles of beyond, living legends are all my favorites
it’s already been said here but Guerilla Radio in the intro of THPS2 is so mind bogglingly cool just watching all these amazing skaters hit crazy tricks in real life while that song is just absolutely banging. before you’ve even started to play you’re just overloaded with coolness.
I’m from the little town of Ventura. We used to skate as kids at Skatestreet. Our 10 year old minds were shocked when we saw it featured in the video game.
Tony hawk is the reason I love hard rock, punk, metal etc because those games are what introduced me to that kind of music. My parents always listened to rap or whatever was playing on the radio, so these games were my only exposure pre-internet. Thank you Tony hawk 🙏
I was about to post that, then I scrolled down to see if anybody else had. Interruptions are a tragically common thing on podcasts and interviews. This is the era of “anyone can be a journalist, look how much I can talk.”
Literally both the clash and germs I discovered through these games. Dead Kennedys, I heard that and was like I'm a punk rocker! Thanks Tony for introducing me to punk rock
Primus! Learned about Primus - Jerry Was A Racecar Driver from the first THPS game. Hugely influential on my life! Got really into real life skateboarding, playing bass... etc :)
@@hillbillyhitman8506 Yeah love his approach! Super distinguishable from any other bass player out there. I'm a big fan of all sorts of bass players too like James Jamerson, Bernard Edwards, and bass on synth from Stevie Wonder and Bernie Worrell. :) How about you?
@@ewwitsantonio Guitarist since 1979..Professional Guitarist since 1991. Never really got into the dynamics of Bass Players, but Les always grabbed my attention. Now Guitarists, I have a Long List.
Im a 25 year old black dude from South Africa, the only reason I got into skate culture and rock music is solely because of the tony hawk series, THUG 2 was the first one I played❤
Them tony hawk games were something else. I remember playing the demo disc of the first game and being blown away as a kid. I think I liked the third one the most. And the music in that game was so good.
They can't thx to Activision who forcefully merged VV with Blizzard and majority of Beenox left. Even TfB who got separated from Activision and working on their own game.
You've never played as a band, till you play on a ramp, or in a bowl with people having fun skating around you. I don't care how big or small you are, its an amazing experience. Different from clubs, arenas, venues.
The power of THPS2 was that I ended up hearing half the music and finding out new genres to fall in love with, without ever playing the game. It was so infectious for people that my friends got me onto them. Because of this in 1999/2000 my favourite band was Millencolin, a skater pop punk band from Sweden. And I was a kid in Australia with no exposure to the alt music scene. How did this happen? Because of Tony. Thank you Tony. You helped a neglected young boy's emotions feel validated through the power of music. 🙏🙏🙏
I thought for sure that would happen after they remastered 1+2 a few years back, and the studio behind it did have plans to re-release 3+4 and maybe both THUGs later but as I understand it all plans were scrapped after the Activision buyout, which sucks cuz 3 was my shit growing up, best soundtrack imo
I love how the other guy is like.... "London calling................... That's my favourite record" what he actually means is that's the only song I know by the clash 😅
@@golangismyjam That is harsh lol. If the guy had been in his 20's I would have been inclined to agree with you. I don't know who he is, but he looks like he is in his 50's so I will give him the benefit of the doubt☺
*Our God indeed is a covenant keeping God. Has he said a thing and not perform it? I watch how things unfold in my life, from penury to $356,000 every three months and I can only praise him and trust him more. Hallelujah 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻*
After I raised up to 525k trading with her I bought a new House and a car here in the states 🇺🇸🇺🇸and also paid for my son's surgery (Oscar). Glory to God.shalom.
I've always wanted to be involved for a long time but the volatility in the price has been very confusing to me. Although I have watched a lot of RU-vid videos about it but I still find it hard to understand.
what an awesome video that randomly got recommended to me by YT. Loved this, TonyHawk games growing up were soooo fuckin fun and music still stuck with me, goldfinger, Meloncollin, etc
For me the ultimate theme for tony hawks games was jurassic 5- a day of races. Remind me of my elementary/middleschool days. On weekends id stay up alnight playing tony hawk underground on my gamecube 😂
Two games informed my music tastes more than anything else in my life. First was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and the second was MX Unleashed. Over 20 years later and I'm still listening to both.
