It's interesting how a video of a woman staring off into the distance, can be so simple yet so extremely powerful. I kinda wonder what she was thinking about to be able to pull this off, all the emotion she was able to express.

I'm so happy they chose a woman who isn't super young for this. She's certainly, not old and very beautiful but you can tell her life hasn't been easy. In my opinion (whatever that's worth) It's from point of view of a woman who isn't 18 but not 75 either. Young enough to change her regrets but like someone said earlier, feels stuck at a crossroads. She grieves what could have been. Technically could probably still have it, but at a cost. That's why I think they chose well with this amazing actress. It makes sense. We face mortality in our 40s(give or take) but still have a long life ahead. Simply beautiful.

I´ve lost count of how many times I´ve listened to this song, but I have to choose carefully when I´ll do it, because I always cry while listening to it. It´s like one of the most bittersweet musical experiencies I´ve ever had.

This reminds me so much of Jane Eyre, the part where she is alone on the moor and wanting to be with Mr Rochester but knowing that she can't have him. The video is as truly beautiful as the song.

This actress is amazing... I don't know if you guys know this but it is hard to be emotional in front of a camera, and sustain it for so long. I've done a work shop on acting in front of a camera and I can tell you from experience that it is difficult. I'm in awe of this woman.

It's ridiculous how much emotion can be expressed in a four-minute close-up of a woman desperate for the return of someone who's never coming back. Absolutely brilliant and heartbreaking at once.

This is really weird, but I used to sing this allot and do my own version of it when I got over this girl. And it was only after that I found out she was adopted and the lyrics "Does he know not to talk about your Dad?" have come back and haunted me.

It is like she's waiting on him, but deep down she knows he's not coming back for her. and she keeps his hope for so long but eventually gives up.

This is the probably the most self-defeating track on the whole album. It kills me in almost every way possible.

How, Keaton Henson, HOW. I've searched for and watched every music video of his within the past 12 hours. How does he convey these messages so thoroughly?

What never ceases to amaze me is how her emotions transition from a sense of hope in the beginning to a sense of complete loss at the end. It's absolutely amazing how accurately shes able to capture what a lot of us feel at some point in our lives. Looking at a situation we know is doomed but as naive as we are try to be hopeful and the more time goes one the more we realise we were right and it was never meant to be.

Something about the dull, dead harmonic at 0:29 that is so perfect. It interrupts the easiness of listening to the intro, so that you have a heightened awareness of the human being behind the guitar. I mean, I know he's a talented musician and composer, but that "missed" note gives you the feeling of being at a children's concert where you're constantly on edge, hoping for every strum or keystroke to be successful. Every "hit" note, then, is more meaningful, because it is attached to a person with the potential for failure as well as success. It opens you up to the sensitive kernel in the middle of every calloused personality, and reminds you that even a "hard" person is really just a scared child. Genius.

My personal interpretation of the song lyrics and video is that the woman was a widow but is in a new relationship now, however her partner does not truly know her and make her happy. I think her dad may have mistreated her or left her, and she never got over it, which is why she may struggle to trust, be touched and have personal relationships. Also, at the level of sorrow she is at now, romance is almost intolerable and she can not express herself. The man she is with now doesn't know who she truly is and therefore she is herself slowly forgetting and losing who she is. The woman has now become numb to her emotions and lost who she is due to the act she has to constantly put on and being misunderstood. The woman has been in a state of inner loneliness and depression for so long that she does not realise when she is sad or mad because she has become too used to it. The title is what the woman is thinking when she thinks about the peace her ex has found. The woman is crying in an empty field staring into the distance because it is the first time in a while that she has felt 'serene' enough to recognise what has happened to herself and her life. I chose the word 'serene' because it relates to a feeling of peacefulness and an expanse of clear sky, which is what the woman is mesmerized by. The woman is remebering and reminiscing over memories, viewing both the happy and the sad which is why she is crying but smiling at the same time, because she remembers what her life used to be. I think the woman is wearing that outfit because it was probably from a time when women needed to be with a man, or would suffer from poverty or homelessness. Which links to my final point, that the woman breaks down during the line "does his love make your head spin?" because the harsh reality has hit her that she shouldn't be with him, yet she knows she will struggle to survive without him. I'm probably wrong, but that's ok because this is a work of art, and art is down to interpretation.

Going through a difficult break up, listening to this while sitting outside, the wind is blowing & I'm drinking hot tea. The cold wind does not give me shivers but this song does. And that's the most emotion I have felt in these past 4 days other than chronic emptiness.

My God what a moving beautiful song and video! I just want to hug her. I've seen the same look in my mother's eyes so, so many times. It's the look of the realization that there really is nothing left. I've stood and cried with her. My father's a monster. I'm not a "crier" but I married a good guy ten years ago. I broke up with THE guy who (as lyrics say) "Not to talk about my dad" "I don't like to be touched" So, now I'm stuck. I have a young child who keeps me going. For that I'm grateful. She's a gift. This song dislodged the feelings I held in for a very long time. I'm married to a guy who cares about a career. Tells me what a POS my dad is when I call him. And could not care less if I want to be touched or kissed. He earns a living. I'm stuck. I'm not old but I'm not 20 anymore either. That's just my personal translation of this song. Not to bore you guys or anything. Just appreciative someone wrote what I couldn't say all this time.

I would like to give a serious shout out to the woman in this video because to maintain such raw emotion for that long while also having a progression from keeping it together well to breaking a little to giving it all out at the end, plus keeping it interesting and never breaking character, as well as other things, is SO SO hard. the line „not to talk about your dad” hits me so hard every time. my family is once again at a point where we just don’t speak about my dad at home, we cant, really, and saying that i’m going to see him always makes me feel guilty, like admitting to something i shouldn’t be doing. the line delivery is so powerful, it’s like the suffocating, void feeling i feel after seeing him has obtained a voice and is speaking to me.

She could be a widow mossing her husband , she could be a mother waiting for her lost child to come back, she could be a woman who never got the love she wanted, loved the way how the spectators get to project their own interpretation of the song and the video .

I kissed my (now boyfriend) for the first time to this song. It's funny because I was so distracted I didn't notice the song was playing until later he showed me it. It's a really beautiful song and I'm really glad that it was apart of a really special moment in my life. We didn't know what was going to happen at all and it was funny how taken a back we both were when we kissed because it was an instant, beautiful, connection.

Im not trying to be a wuss by whining publicly on youtube about my problems but I want to say this anyway. I have issues with both of my parents, all of my family in fact. They would never, never just let me be who I am and that caused a massive problem between us that will never be fixed until they change and they never will. Henson's work to me can only be described as 'beautifully tragic'. His lyrics hold the kind of sorrow in them that makes, for example, this particular song, engage you in life's faults. The woman here is living this state of affliction that is gloriously anguishing. It represents that one state of oblivion in which everyone so dearly tries to avoid, she not only believes this other person does not know who she is, but she, herself; she does not truly know her own personage, her own soul. Her standing alone in such a vast space symbolizes the seclusion and loneliness that is created with a life lived with no love of oneself or others. Love is selfish, but once found, it is the most gratifying thing of all.

I really a appreciate the minimalistic style of his music videos. It focuses on the music and lyrics rather than how some other videos are like watching a movie. This is how music videos are supposed be,all about the music. I feel like he portrays the story in his lyrics but shows emotions through the actors faces and actions. Its really beautiful.

I only knew Keaton's 'You' for a long time. I have just this hour discovered this and somehow it surpasses even the masterpiece of 'You'. He simply does not hold back. You can hear the emotion, it is REAL emotion. 'Does he know not to talk about your Dad?' 'Do you know who you are?' 'Do you know that your lip shakes when you're mad?' This evokes in me the deepest-rooted of my insecurities, and the thought of the girl who wanders London who will one day end up being mine, neither of us yet knowing it, and then I'll fuck it up like I always do. She'll get with a real man who can handle his anxieties and think of me fondly but with only a pleasant nostalgia, not a deeper yearning. This song used to remind me of my ex. And while I'm not 100% over her, things have gotten so much better since she stepped out of my life for her ex. I feel happier. I feel genuinely like a good person. Sometimes we over look all the bad things in a person and we keep them in our lives because we feel like they're our oxygen and that we won't survive without them. But in the long run, despite all the pain that cutting them off is going to put you through, you need to do it in order to you to truly be happy.

This music helps me to evade from this life. Im bedridden 23/7 since 2 years and an half with the most painful disease ever known to humankind..more painful than cancer pain, fibromialgia, labor, more painful than getting amputated of a finger without any medication. There's no cure at all. I cant walk since that long. I cant put my feet on the ground. Wheelchair bounded. Also had a machine feeding me through a tube in my belly for 3 years night and day just before that. I had 12 pancreatitis and almost died every time. It started when I turned 16 yo. In a year, I had to stay 8 months at the hospital. Im 30. Im still living with my mom. Also had a toxic and very abusive relationship that lasted 3 years with a guy. Well, he broke up with me for my birthday..he used to laugh when I cried sometimes. Careless and mean.I got an injury to left arm and i cant move at all. I can only type with one hand in bed bed under my blankets.. my dad is going in a desintox center and i have no new from him i never see him either he doesnt call nor come and see me. I will probably have to get amputated soon. I can never work or study again. Doctors said i wont walk and the disease will spread in my whole body. I have around 55 pills to take in a day...I still suffer alot. I just sleep and cant go outside. I have no friends and nobody care. My doctor dropped the case since theres nothing to do. The only person who could understand me was a good friend but he died... and sometimes i dont have enough money and I just cant eat....have crutches since 2 years but cant use them since 2 weeks because of my injuried arm. I also had to get a surgery not long ago for another thing. I cant cook, cant wash dishes or my clothes and cant go out of the house without help its only my mom who helps i habe nobosy else. And its always painful and hard so. CRPS aka suicide disease because many people commit suicide with that amount of pain and no hope of recovering. I try to not give up. Thanks for reading ❤

You should be able to like a video every time you watch/listen to it. If we were, this and most of Keaton's likes would explode exponentially.

This song shakes me to the core every time I hear it. I love reading the comments of people who view the lyrics and video as subjective and I agree. But I’ve always felt so closed off from love because of my dad’s death. I’ve felt like no one has ever known me as he did and no one ever will. This song moves me everytime I hear that “about your dad” line. I wish he was still here but I thank the universe that I have Keaton Henson’s music: so beautiful and important.

the ending is so so poignant to me. like ... he's not sure there's much he can ever do to get this womans love so his last line is 'does his love make your head spin?' like maybe it doesn't and he doesnt want to give this guy too much props but maybe it does and maybe it's better than he could ever be so as long as she's happy and in love he just has to settle for that. that's how i read it anyway, just my personal opinion.
