When I was in my early 20s I had a boyfriend who was really close friends with this guy, I ended up befriending the guy and his wife, and the four of us even lived together at one point. I broke up with my boyfriend and they moved to the other side of the country. They'd just had their second kid when they called me. They were going to see family in a couple weeks, but the guy needed to come back early, so they asked if he could stay with me until she came with the kids. I was totally fine with that, like I said, we were all very close. So he stayed on my couch for the first half of the first week, and started complaining about his back. I had to work everyday, so I would let him nap/sleep in my bed when I wasn't home. One night, a few days before his wife was coming with his kids, I got home from work and was going to bed when he said his back hurt too much to sleep on the couch. Bear in mind here that this was not the first time I'd slept in the same room/bed as him, and I have slept in the same bed as upwards of ten male friends without incident. In the middle of the night, I woke up to him kissing and touching me, having already partially undressed me. I pulled my head back in shock as what was happening was dawning on me and he said something like, "It's okay, just pretend you're dreaming." I jumped out of the bed in a panic, freaking out, didn't know what to do with myself. He apologized, I told him to get the fuck out of my bed. He begged me not to tell his wife, and I decided that I was going to say nothing, pretend like it never happened, wait until they left, and never speak to them again (note that he had cheated on her in the past several times and I felt like, she's not going to leave anyway, there's no point in saying anything when she just had a second baby with him). So anyway, she comes and gets him, and I don't talk to them again. Then the guy dies. Some heart thing, I'm not exactly sure. The wife then moves back, and starts telling people that I slept with the guy, trying to get my ex to date her. So I was stuck in the position of accusing a dead man of sexually assaulting me two or three years in the past. Trust me, you don't want to be in that position. I never would have said a word about it either, if she hadn't tried to convince people I slept with her husband, trying to ruin my reputation. The truth was that her husband basically cheated with everyone but me. This whole, "You didn't come forward right away therefore nothing happened" argument is the most bullshit argument on earth. People rationalize and deny and convince themselves of things to avoid coming forward. I let him sleep in my bed. I didn't tell a soul. I never would have told anyone. I rationalized that I could just erase them from my life and forget about it. That's how this stuff works. It's extremely complicated and stressful and humiliating and you just want it to go away. Anyone who says anything like that is telling you that they do not know - nor do they care to know - anything about sexual assault. They're essentially preemptively defending sexual predators. They're rape apologists. Avoid at all costs in the future and disregard anything they say.

I, unfortunately, have had a similar situation happen where I had been assaulted orally. The guy had power over me at the time and did it while I was half asleep / stoned (with his future wife in the other room). It literally took me almost the entire next day to really realize that, yes, that was assault. I told his fiancé what happened and I don’t know whatever happened with them, but I wish them the best. I’ve LITERALLY had this happen to me from multiple men. When I was r****, I got a r-kit done. Bc I was under 17, the hospital reported it to the police without my permission or knowledge. The police hunted me down, questioned me about it in an interrogation room, repeated all of the information in front of me to my mother, then told me it was consensual. He did this same thing to me that night, too.
